[Bug 36804] migrate MedaWiki from using BiDirectional characters by properly embedding any item using directionality syntax
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=36804 --- Comment #1 from Amir E. Aharoni 2012-05-13 05:53:46 UTC --- I definitely have plans to introduce fine-grained control of directionality, maybe in the Visual Editor age and maybe even earlier (see https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Visual_editor/Bidirectional_text_requirements ). But I'm not sure that I understand what are you referring to. doesn't solve everything in a heavily mixed-directionality environment. For example, a title in an RTL wiki can be LTR. would be more comprehensive than span, but the support for it is not yet completely stable, neither in the browsers nor in MediaWiki (see bug 31817). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug. ___ Wikibugs-l mailing list Wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikibugs-l

Aharoni 2012-05-13 05:49:32 UTC --- The fix appears to be merged and deployed. It works as I expect on my local test wiki. But if I try it on the English Wikipedia, the tag disappears completely. See an example here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Amire80/bdi Before the fix the tag would appear escaped, so you would just see the text in the rendered page. Now it seems to disappear. When I look at the source of the rendered page, I see: The Hebrew name of Haifa is חיפה.[1] On my local wiki I see: The Hebrew name of Haifa is חיפה.[1] -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug. ___ Wikibugs-l mailing list Wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikibugs-l

Please see http://en.wikipedia.org/?curid=1003506#bugzilla:012225
My signature was always interfearing with the digis ( being of directionality
nutral).
I repeat what is written at the url from above:
should be equivalent in a LTR wiki to:
~~~ ~
the technique is similar as described at bug 36803
However now that 1.19 is out and 1.20 in full development, site admins are having troubles finding a REL1_19 version of their favorite extensions. We would need: 1) Add support in ExtensionDistributor for downloading git branches (after selecting an extension, it would query (whether or not cached) a lit of available branches and after choice, package it up and send it 2) A policy on branching because extensions are now in their own repositories, so core branches no longer branch extensions automatically * Whenever we branch core, run a script that branches all extensions as well. + Always complete - Extension author may know know about it and thus branching might occur at a wrong point. Of course this can be easily fixed, but still a burden. * We only branch core as we did for 1.19/1.20 and in addition, notify extension developers that they should branch their extension. - Not complete + But branches are chosen for and more stable So overal the choice is, do we want to offer choices for each release no matter what (and risk it being a bad branch point), or let extension maintainers do it themselves, but thus many extensions won't have available branches for a certain MediaWiki version. Whatever we do, we should do it soon because 1.19.0 is already released and ExtensionDistributor has no 1.19 package. e.g.: https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Special:ExtensionDistributor/Cite -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. I will update the transliteration documentation once these changes are committed. A sidenote: I acceidentally found that character દ્ભ (dbha) is missing in lohit fonts. Saying that, when lohit is selected dbh renders દ્ભ (just like the one with ZWNJ ` - d`bha) and when switched to default Gujarati fonts, it becomes દ્ભ. But that has nothing to do with this bug. Surfing to the mobile home page in Opera and in the Symbian native browser, at the bottom left I see a slightly grainy image (I'm guessing it's an image) of the Wikipedia logo with a registered symbol. To the right of that I see the word "more" and a down arrow. [Bug 36217] Making an error free Avro Bangla keyboard layout for Narayam
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=36217 --- Comment #5 from Jayanta Nath 2012-05-12 07:12:28 UTC --- (In reply to comment #4) > Now the layout working better than previous, > > Please add the rule, > (vowel)+rri = vowel+ৃ > example, দ+rri=দৃ > but only, rri = ঋ > > I don't know why, the rule is working in bnwikipedia but not in Narayam. > Please > resolve this. During developing time lots of chat and mailing with Junaid, Ragib, Belayet we got the tools https://toolserver.org/~junaid/transliteration/, but it was not thoroughly checked by frequent user, so there may be some bug. So lets do as mention in this bug title. I don't this place is a right place to discuss all rule related bug or not. দ+rri=দৃ is working fine at bnwiki, but not at translatewiki.net or Narayam. kee=কী is not working at bnwiki, but works fine at translatewiki.net or Narayam. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug.
