Obviously having a proper abstraction layer between the parser and various db- / HTTP- / filesystem back end classes is the best way, but since the dev team is busy with bigger projects, having (a cleaned up version of) this starting point in the codebase will help people wanting 100% parse fidelity for offline viewers, data miners, etc. Personally I've wanted an offline viewer that worked straight from the published dump files for years. (Other offline viewers like Kiwix need their own huge downloads in their own formats.) I had the code to extract the needed data from the dump files, but never succeeded with the next step of parser integration. It was me who asked _Vi to participate in this discussion. He's the first one I bumped into over the years who has done some real work in this direction. Hack = prototype = as good a place to start as anywhere. Replaces [1]/[2] with a new SRF output format called incoming.
## Description
This integration makes parser #iask obsolete while providing extended
functionality such as using template functionality (in order to improve
performance) or to display counted elements per assigned property (where when
using #iask one had to use two calls to fetch those information).
The integration further allows to use the internal SMW QueryCache for identical
results.
Incoming properties are displayed as simple separated list using [sep] or
through a [template] which add's flexibility and allows to implement a
semi-drilldown capacity (for example by using #queryformlink [3] or
#drilldownlink [4]) for assigned incoming properties.
## Parameters
[min] sets threshold
[sep] sets separator
[template] sets template name
[userparam] transfers {{{userparam}}} into the template
[count] transfers {{{count}}} into the template
[cache] true/false (displayed where SMWQueryCache does exists) to enable query
cache
The count parameter works only in connection with a template. When using a
template and [count] is set true the parameter {{{count}}} is reserved for
displaying the count value.
Selection can be executed on a single page [[ ... ]] or a [[property::value]]
pair.

upload.js toggleFilenameFiller() and fillDestFilename(id) try to avoid this
behaviour but are not working properly:

Pressing the back button causes a refresh event (the spinner icon appears) but the same page is displayed. This doesn't happen every time but often, maybe 50%. This is on a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and I almost always use my tab in portrait mode when reading, including using wikipedia beta. I was able to reproduce this behavior consistently following the steps below: 1) Search for arthur c. clarke. 2) Click the link Childhood's End under Notable works. 3) Click on the link The Songs of Distant Earth in the second paragraph. 4) Click Plot Summary to expand that section. 5) Click the link cryonic suspension in the second paragraph of that section. 6) Touch the back button. Rather than going back to the previous page, the spinner displays as if loading a page but the same page appears. They are not straight dumps from dumps.wikimedia.org, although the original idea was that they would eventually be processed like that, publishing the index file along the xml dumps. You could use the original files, treating them as a single bucket, but performance would be horrible with big dumps. My approach was to use a new database type for reading the dumps, so it doesn't need an extra process or database. Admittedly, it targetted the then current MediaWiki 1.13, so it'd need an update in order to work with current MediaWiki versions (mainly things like new columns/tables). Vi, I did some tests with your code using eswiki-20081126 dump. For that version I store the processed file + categories + indexes in less than 800M. In your case, the shelve file needs 2.4G (a little smaller than the decompressed xml dump, 2495471616 vs 2584170611). I had to perform a number of changes, in the patch to make it apply, to the interwikis so wikipedia is treated as a local namespace, to paths... Also the database contains references to /home/vi/usr/mediawiki_sa_vi/w/, but it mostly works. The more noticeable problems are that images don't work and redirects are not followed. Another possibility would also to keep the language order, but in each language, sort by name). This won't warranty consistency, as some translations are buggy. In French for example, we've Traduction en assamais but Translittération kannada to translate Transliteration. Overall, it is a much more theoretically reliable and secure idea to utilize MW's existing logging functionality to store authentication requests and their results rather then to cache them in memory pending the user's next visit. If a user doesn't log into Wikipedia for a week, and the threshold for email is also a week, then that memcached key is there for a whole seven days, which is generally not what memcached is used for (or at least not what I use it for). memcached at WMF is assumed to never lose entries due to memory pressure. It could probably appear on either of those places without much problem. I guess that's understandable, but I still don't believe using a memcached-only caching method is a reliable solution. It'd be like a CPU relying only on L1/2/3 cache and just not using regular memory whatsoever. Furthermore, I don't see any disadvantage in investing in a staged caching system, where the information is stored in memcached but also kept in the database in the case of a cache miss. Memcached is not meant for stuff like this.
