The server admin log is available at
 for now.

The migration/merge of labsconsole.wikimedia.org and wikitech.wikimedia.org
apparently is taking much longer than originally anticipated. There was a
status update sent out about this, but I missed it, as it only hit the Labs and
Engineering mailing lists, but for reasons unknown, the messages never made it
through to wikitech-l. :-/

I agree that protocol-relative links should be used in the talk pages
notifications. A translator from China pointed this out as a security issue to
me (https://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?diff=4822644&oldid=4502873 ).

Obviously, protocol-relative links usually won't work in the email
notifications; it would be nice to use HTTPS for those by default.

I have attempted a first draft spec at [[Guided tours]] technical documentation
section on mediawiki.org. The relevant suggestion is...

"In order to support multiple tours on the same wiki, a user may have multiple
separate tour cookies. However, only one tour may fire on a given page. If
there is a conflict and multiple tours attempt to fire on a single page, no
tour will be displayed."

Sound reasonable?

I realized we didn't completely spec this out.  What should be the behavior if
they have multiple tour cookies when they visit a page?  Should they just all
attempt to show, respecting the skip behavior?

I can do an interim solution that keeps a single cookie, but controls whether
individual guiders should write to it.  But we should see if we can figure out
the desired behavior.

Oppose. MathJax is supported by all modern browser and most ancient ones.
There's no need to waste bandwidth sending a PNG to every new request, force
the browser to render said PNG, and then re-render MathJax over it. There's
already a noticeable lag in rendering MathJax, and there's no need to make it
worse.

I should clarify, that restart command is not intended for WMF production.

It is just a temporary workaround people can use on Labs or their third-party
wikis (at their discretion) until the root cause is identified and fixed.

But since it's not mentioned above, this can often be worked around by
restarting memcached.  e.g.

sudo /etc/init.d/memcached restart

It will recur again though.

We could use a code coverage report of mediawiki/core unit tests. That has been
a long time request by Chris McMahon.  Asher expressed interest too.

We could just run it once per day. No points in having such a CPU intensive
task to be done on each merge.

Yes, this still happens.  Come over to my desk and I'll show you.  It's one
specific POST payload I've been re-submitting for two months now.  I have
already said it may well be that whatever was causing the bug was fixed, but my
POST payload is still the same and may be poisoned by whatever was causing the
exception in the first place.

That said, Mediawiki probablys shouldn't choke like that no matter _what_ the
POST contains...

The separator option (sep) of the result format template now defaults to a
comma as the default value instead of none. This is quite a breaking change
since this will require all semantic queries using this format to be changed
(adding "sep="). I do not think that it is advisable to have a comma as a
default for this result format.

Separating this query into batches means you'll get an inconsistent dump,
unless you use a transaction to keep the read state frozen... in which case
you're probably not gaining anything.

Of course if nobody cares about consistency, we could possibly ignore new
revisions after the beginning and it'd be "mostly consistent" except for things
that get deleted during the dump might fully or partially disappear instead of
staying in the snapshot.

Probably still needs to read the whole 'page' table in a consistent transaction
though.

In one path false is returned by the code, but a return above it returns

This is no longer true. The behavior on master is that the link gets alienated.

You can't do that, because it's an alien. You can remove it as a unit. Bolding
it seems to work too, although there's a different bug that causes text to be

Entering "RFC 2822" into an existing paragraph causes Parsoid to  the

Moot, because we have alienation working.

Closing this bug as WORKSFORME. I saw a few weird issues while testing this,
but they seem to be Parsoid serialization bugs not directly related to this
bug, and I may have an out-of-date library again.

The error message is:

from within function "ArticleFeedbackv5Hooks::contributionsData". Database
returned error "1054: Unknown column 'af_net_helpfulness' in 'field list'
(10.4.0.53)".

I suspect the AFTv5 is missing the database updater to populate that field.
Reassigning bug to the AFTv5 component. Once the updater is added, we can run
the database update.

When we unwrap lists, we currently preserve the internal 'generated' property
on paragraphs inside those lists, but we really shouldn't. The fact that we
don't currently clear this when unwrapping results in the following serious
bug:

1. Create a page with the following content
Foo
Bar
* Baz
* Quux
* Whee
Yay
2. Open the page in VE
3. Select across the three list items and click the list button to unlist them
4. VE now shows five paragraphs
5. Click "Review and save" and observe the diff.

Expected diff: the asterisk and space before "Baz", "Quux" and "Whee" are
removed.

Actual diff: the second line becomes "BarBazQuuxWhee", followed by three blank
lines, then "Yay".

This happens because the converter unwraps paragraphs with the 'internal': {
'generated': 'wrapper' } property, even if these paragraphs now appear in a
different context and even if there are multiple such paragraphs adjacent to
each other.

The proposal I was referring to is to remove feedback from lottery articles
BEFORE deploying new features and data cluster, which seems to make sense.
We're in agreement about removing feedback from most lottery articles (though
we would like to keep the category for some articles which have received a fair
amount of moderation and useful feedback, which seems consistent with the
intent of the RfC closure)

The "difficult" part is what condition to continue from, due to the code having

The problem is, there isn't any way to have any locally-defined JS run before
the DOM is finished loading, and that's far too late. JS alone can't do
anything about this if we can't use any JS at all until it's too late.

Yeah, that's probably what's going to happen. I mentioned in the Wiktionary

Maps suddenly create the following error when using an Address --Parameter
coordinates must be one or more valid locations. Failure occurs with both
Openlayers and Google.

The behavior suddenly started happening (and seems to be happening to others

The code is ok but we have to find out whether we actually want to restore the
pagination link at the top of the search result.  It got removed because it has
no real value being before the result, the user would browse down the list of
change and ends up seeing the pagination links at the bottom and use thoses,
not the top one.

The default Gallery on Android doesn't refresh very often, so it's possible to
delete or rename a file (via a file manager) and then select (the old name of)
it for upload to Commons.

This will crash the app.

I discovered a problem, here in my Extension:OpenID.

The problem is that the E:OpenID adds a new pref tab ("OpenID"), which works
fine since many years, but the section header texts are not
shown, and the skin looks as if the user skin is fully ignored.

I never reported this, because I did not notice the effect until today.

The effect (no  texts shown) can be seen live in

when you compare this pref tab with one of the other pref tabs.

I have no idea how this can be solved. 

For me it looks as a 

+ bug in the core

which effects extensions in loosing skin or context in their new section(s)

when the extension 

+ uses Hook:GetPreferences ; and 
+ adds a new section e.g. "OpenID"

[Bug 45578] CentralAuth does not always log you into other projects

I just tried with Wikivoyage and it worked. But I still didn't get logged into
Commons.

It also seems to be happening rather randomly on mobile devices when using
mobile view. One time it will not log you into Commons, and then the other time
it will.
