Sigh. I chose a random wiki to avoid bias, I should have used one of those
super-small languages as I usually do. However, why did I have to manually
login on the first of (it|en).source to create the account on step 1? I'll try
to reproduce again elsewhere...

The recursion we're doing in (Cirrus)SearchUpdate is bad. I've been complaining
about this but guess I've got a reason to fix it now :)

We don't handle [[A]] redirecting to [[A]] well at all...which is what this
test was doing and thus blowing up. Here's some xdebug output that helps show

Because about half the code in the DM is solely there to keep this delicate
data structure together, and now that we don't need ±1 cursoring it seems like
a lot of effort for nothing.

The behaviour it provides (protecting metadata from deletion) can all be done
in the transaction builders, and in fact we already do this for internal lists)

Going forward this will make multi user editing a lot easier to.

That said this is going to be a massive commit.

English Wikipedia are copy-editing, clarification, and adding wikilinks.

We might want to evolve these MassMessage + Newsletters extensions into a
common Announcements extension? The use cases seem to be so overlapping.

I'm not saying we should stop any development, just trying to converge. The
Wishlist at https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Newsletter#Wishlist covers
pretty much the use cases that have been discussed.

In any case I'm moving this report to Extensions Requests since everybody seems
to agree that this is not an Echo feature per se.

As an interim solution until we have separate storage for data-parsoid, we
should consider moving data-parsoid into a single JSON structure in the head of
the document and insert locally unique ids to reference it.

This will make it easier to strip this out in the VE frontend (ideally just
with a regexp), and can make our output usable for mobile.

This is likely due to UTC, but there are better ways of perhaps displaying the
date in the "Created" column within the reports of Wikimetrics.

Specifically, I just tried to download a cohort, and it tells me I created it
"Tomorrow at 1:20 AM." It would be great if this just had a date, even if it
isn't the same as MY current date... or at the very least, it would be nice to
specify UTC.

 I did notice there are a number of obvious bugs in the collector
source, but they're unlikely to have a big effect most of the time
 e.g. you'll see this pattern in a few places:

 if (l==EAGAIN)
 break;

 "l" (return value from recvfrom() or similar network calls) will never
be EAGAIN.  you would actually check for errno==EAGAIN when l==-1
 so those EAGAIN / EWOULDBLOCK checks are just wrong
 actually I think the way that code ends up working, it's skipping any
packet it receives that is 11 bytes in length (because EAGAIN happens to be
error code 11), and then again also not handling the true EAGAIN case very well
(but well enough, since the outer loop is simple)

That virtualhosts used the 'labs' docroot which has been deleted recently which
caused an error to be logged server side.

I have changed the apache configuration on beta to point to the 'wikimedia.org'
docroot, now we end up with the lame "wiki not found" error :/

Shows an example of weird/incorrect change rates!

On the grantmaking dashboard, the change rates shown on the top left of the
different graphs on Limn are incorrect. This is either because (a) they are
calculating incorrectly or (b) the dates are displaying incorrectly.

this might be a function of the fact the data feeding these graphs is DAILY
instead of MONTHLY as the broader WMF dashboard is.

When $wgAllowImageTag is enabled, sysadmins and sysops should be able to manage
what values for 'src' are permitted.

It believe $wgAllowImageTag should respect $wgAllowExternalImagesFrom &
$wgEnableImageWhitelist.

IMO it should also respect $wgAllowImageTag .  However if $wgAllowImageTag also
used $wgAllowExternalImages , there is a small semantic change to the variable
$wgAllowImageTag . e.g. a wiki might want  but does not want raw
image links in the wikitext to be rendered as inline images.

There is an (imho) important factor to consider: Bugzilla has the same scope
than Gerrit (and hence the wikitech.w.o login): MediaWiki Core + Extensions +
some Wikimedia specific stuff. 

Consequences:

* It is good for Wikipedia users to understand that when they are filing a bug
report o feature request here, most probably it relates to and depends on other
technical factors beyond his/her specific Wikimedia project.

* It is also good not to "force" a Wikipedia login to the non-Wikimedia users
and sysadmins reporting MediaWiki problems and feature requests here, since
this is also their place. And we suffer from enough Wikimedia-centrism already
in this open source project. (as a reminder, these users are currently
wondering why they need a mediawiki.org login, a different one for
Gerrit/wikitech.m.o and another one for Bugzilla).

As a side effect, being Bugzilla next to Gerrit does minimize the problem of
having public email addresses, since this is just normal for anybody
contributing patches, as opposed to wiki editors who never have to disclose
publicly this information.
