[Bug 71354] mwscript importDump.php fails to properly import some valid xml exports
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=71354 --- Comment #10 from dan d_ent...@yahoo.com --- yes, i agree. i did try to find a common denominator, by trying to narrow down a common template in the included De.xml and Nl.xml dumps and removing it, but wasn’t able to narrow down a situation where removing a combination of the same templates allowed for the importDump.php script to succeed properly. i also tried troubleshooting the importDump.php script directly, but it calls many methods, which don’t provide any insight if there’s an issue. i’ll continue to troubleshoot when i get time. thanks for your feedback and thinking with me! -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. [Maniphest] [Commented On] T607: Check easily who has signed Legalpad documents by their Wikimedia username
Qgil added a comment. Thank you all for your thoughts and the illustrative patch. I spoke with @Jalexander a few hours ago, and we exchanged impressions about our respective top priorities. The further comments here are very helpful. A summary that hopefully all we can agree on: * The Legalpad project is objectively urgent: there is an ongoing community process that needs it, and a board decision to fix this problem. However, due to several circumstances its push has been delayed, and now it is the Phabricator team who requests to wait a bit. We are in the middle of a Bugzilla and a RT migration that require all our focus and more, this is a declared WMF Engineering top priority, and the only sane approach is to put this task aside until we have completed Bugzilla-Migration. We are still hoping to finish by the end of this month, although we haven't committed to a specific date yet. * Today we can say that it is technically possible to provide the list with the details needed (say, for each entry Wikimedia username - Real name - Phabricator username - email). We just don't have the time right now to discuss and agree its details, but it looks like it shouldn't be rocket science. Patching upstream's Legalpad would be a short term solution creating a short term problem of maintenance. Since the use case is so unique for Wikimedia, it is unlikely that upstream will be interested in merging such patch, that we would need to maintain locally forever. Therefore, the best approach is an extension. * We can also talk about other features like inclusion in advanced search or triggering email notifications when a new users signs a legalpad (a feature that I could not find today via Herald or email preferences) but, again, not before the Bugzilla migration has been completed. Nobody wanted to arrive to this date without a Legalpad in full use, but this is where we got somehow. The Phabricator team requests the LCA team to wait just a few more weeks. [Maniphest] [Commented On] T574: bad wiki Username (WMF) URL in Confirm MediaWiki Account Link and Linked Accounts and Authentication
Qgil added a comment. I think the fixes needed sorted by priority are: # The URL to the user page must be functional in all cases, regardless of the characters involved. # The visible string should be the username correctly formatted, hiding the URL itself i.e. S Page (WMF) # This needs to be implemented in all the places where we are showing this link ** Registration dialog (pending) ** User profile (fixed) ** User preferences (pending) ** Anywhere else? # The long URL shouldn't show unnecessary url-encoding. How much of this can we reasonably include before the Bugzilla migration? Personally I don't think it is relevant whether these encodings exist in the background as long as the URLs work and the ugly encodings are not exposed in the UI. Providing short URL format is not possible today and it would require significant changes in the extension if we want to upstream them, something that we are not going to pursue now, if ever. If you are interested in showing short URLs, then please create a new task, but as said we will not look at it anytime soon. I've not been able to reproduce this with any of the cited pages. Impact on users is effectively nil, in that the bug is now only reproducible with specially-contrived degenerate input. (I should note that it is possible to make Zend crash this way, too.) It's not good to segfault on user input, so there is still a bit of work to do before we mark this resolved. I think the sanest approach would be (b) (cf comment 6). [Maniphest] [Commented On] T572: Determine the fate of comment metadata from legacy systems in phabricator.wikimedia.org
Qgil added a comment. Thank you @chasemp for the technical explanation. Let me add the social explanation. Comment metadata is important, and user history is even more important. However, not all comment metadata and not all user history are equally important. A few users have hundreds of comments, while hundreds of users have a few comments. Some Bugzilla users have already an account in Phabricator, while some Bugzilla users can't even even access to their old accounts because the email addresses they used are long gone. Thanks to mutante and aklapper, we have now these interesting numbers: * 525 active Bugzilla users in the past 7 days * 871 active Bugzilla users in the past 30 days * 2606 active Bugzilla users since February (when Bugzila was updated and the last_seen_date feature was available) * 19847 Bugzilla accounts I propose to target those 2606 users (13% of the total) with the two emails proposed above. If only a third of those active users do respond and create a Phabricator account before the migration, we will have covered the amount of regular monthly users. This is a simple technical solution that would solve the most complex part of the social problem. In any case, I believe 99% of those active users will be happy to be officially notified about the migration, and to have a first experience with Phabricator before they find Bugzilla in read-only mode. This together with the periodical updates that Chase mentioned is a fair compromise that basically anybody can understand and agree with. The bottom line is: if you were around, you had a chance to fix this problem before Day 1; if you have been away several months, or it took several weeks for you to respond, then you can also wait a few weeks to have your comment metadata connected to your new Phabricator user account. We have discussed this topic extensively in our last Phabricator team meeting, and the four of us agree with it. It is a fair solution, and there are still many open ends that we need to fix. Let's agree on this approach. TASK DETAIL https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T572 REPLY HANDLER ACTIONS Reply to comment or attach files, or !close, !claim, !unsubscribe or !assign username. https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=71555 --- Comment #8 from tobias.gritschac...@wikimedia.de --- (In reply to Bene* from comment #7) (In reply to Jan Zerebecki from comment #5) Yes, but that doesn't solve the case of multiple user outlined in comment #3 . The case that two different users hit save in the same second is very rare and perhaps not really fixable at all. However, this happens now very often because we send several requests when hitting save once. Also when several edits are made only one request should be sent imo to avoid those issues. Something would be really wrong if this is not fixable. Having one request for multiple edits would solve the issue with the multi-edit-mode but introduce another one. As Lydia already outlined, the changes made would not be granular on history and recent changes pages anymore. You would just see: Item Q1234 was changed. [Bug 71845] Re-enable quick editing in Wikidata
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=71845 --- Comment #5 from tobias.gritschac...@wikimedia.de --- (In reply to Romaine from comment #3) (In reply to tobias.gritschacher from comment #2) Note that you only have to click [edit] once in the beginning and click [save] only once in the end. In between you can add/change/remove as many sitelinks as you want. The path I described was accurate. No misunderstanding was there. If I want to add 4 pages from four wikis, I also need (and want) to fill in the labels for those languages. In the past I copied the title, and placed it on 2 places in a page, before I continue with the second page I want to add. That a label is filled in together with the link is not understood. Now is this very very clumsy. A user copies in the past the page title, and on Wikidata: (label:) click + paste + save + (linked:) add + lang + paste + save - 4x. Now: A user copies currently the page title, and on Wikidata: (label section:) edit + click + paste + scrolling + save (outside my screen) + (linked section:) edit + add + lang + paste + save (on not expecting place) - this all 4 times Even for one link this is a lot more clicks, the more links, even more steps are needed. Ok, did not understand your complete workflow in the first place. Now it is clearer to me what you are really doing. You are adding a new sitelink together with label/description/aliases in that language, right? Indeed the workflow for the case above, became more complicated. Before we introduced section-edit-mode for the termbox, empty input-fields were in edit-mode by default. That saved one click on [edit]. Also for sitelinks after [edit] there is an additional click on [add] necessary if you want to add a new one. That makes 2 additional clicks more for the scenario described above. We need to think how to improve the situation. Just some random thought by myself: - probably we can restore the behavior of having input-boxes for empty labels and descriptions in edit-mode by default. Not sure how hard that would be to implement, given the fact we move into the direction of the new UI design. We need to check. - you mentioned an additional scrolling step to be able to click on [save] after you added label/description or a sitelink. You can omit this step by just pressing [return] on your keyboard to trigger the [save]. Additionally you can cancel your action by pressing the [esc] key. - the need for the additional click on [add] for adding new sitelinks is really a pain. I do not like it either. One solution would be to insert a row for a new sitelink by default when clicking on [edit]. We need to check if and how this is possible. However these are intermediate steps towards the new UI design, that has been discussed and iterated over a long time here: https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:UI_redesign_input and here: https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:UI_redesign_input/Archive2 and here: https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:UI_redesign_input/Archive Did you take part in the discussion? I am not sure if in the end when we are finished with the new design, you would be able to do the workflow as described above without adapting it. Changes almost never have advantages only. But the goal should always be that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug. ___ Wikibugs-l mailing list Wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikibugs-l

Collection or OCG. Currently the message coll-book_creator_intro says: With the ''book creator'' you can create a book containing wiki pages of your choice. You can export the book in different formats (for example PDF or ODF) or order a printed copy. But OCG supports PDF only (for now) and the printed copy via PediaPress was shut down. https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=71845 --- Comment #6 from tobias.gritschac...@wikimedia.de --- (In reply to Romaine from comment #4) (In reply to JAn Dudík from comment #1) Additionally, this change broke some user gadgets, including MoveSiteLink. Solving mixed themas is now much more difficult (edit + scrolling + copy + delete + scrolling + save + edit second + scorlling + lang + paste + scrolling + save) instead of simple (edit + move) I can confirm this. Strange that the new design has not taken this into account. Not an improvement. It was announced well beforehand that the upcoming changes will break gadgets. See the announcement here: https://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/wikidata-l/2014-August/004492.html Unfortunately we cannot avoid breaking 3rd-party gadgets when doing extensive refactoring of existing concepts. We try to keep the number of breaking changes as low as possible but when doing a massive change to how the UI works it is impossible to avoid them. I fear they will happen again on our road to the new user interface. We are trying to announce them as early as possible. Starting with a selection of brave, non-mission-critical projects, and continuing moving repos until we are done. * How: is this task performed with manual work only or is there some software that we need to create or reuse? * Read-only vs Differential: do we tie new repos available with the code review migration, or is there a point in offering Diffusion to browse read-only repositories as well? {T560} should feature a bunch of repos, but having all of tem is not required at all (this hasn't been discussed throughout, feedback welcome). Qgil created this task. Qgil added a subscriber: Qgil. Qgil added a project: Code-Review. Qgil changed Security from none to none. TASK DESCRIPTION {T18} contains a discussion about how to preserve the Gerrit code review data. Converting all Gerrit changesets in Differential diffs preserving all comments looks like an herculean effort with an unclear added value compared with this other manageable option: ! In T18#9753, @Chad wrote: We could actually push all of the refs/* to the new repo locations on Phabricator which would contain a good amount of data about who reviewed what and when, even if it doesn't contain all the comments. That + a static dump of Gerrit as it is would make a decent compromise. So this is the current assumption, which might change depending on the planning work at T18. Whatever we decide, {T560} should demonstrate the solution adopted at a prototype stage.
