[Wikidata] Sitelink removal in Wikidata

2017-04-25 Thread Amir Ladsgroup
Hey,
One common form of vandalism in Wikidata is removing sitelinks (we already
have an abuse filter flagging them).
One of my friends in Persian Wikipedia (who is not a wikidata editor and
only cares about Persian Wikipedia) asked me to write a tool that lists all
Persian Wikipedia sitelink removals. So I wrote something small and fast
but it's usable for any wiki. For example English Wikipedia:
http://tools.wmflabs.org/dexbot/tools/deleted_sitelinks.php?wiki=enwiki

It's slow due to nature of the database query but once it responds, you
might find good things to revert.

Since this is the most useful for Wikipedia editors who don't want to
patrol Wikidata (in that case, this query

is
the most useful) I'm reaching to wider audiences. Sorry for spamming.

HTH

May I ask why you are acting like you are still an active member of the team?

@thiemowmde I am foremost a sometimes active, sometimes not so active member of the wider WM, MW, Wikidata etc. community (and have proudly been so since 2007 when I have first started coding for MW).

Right now I “act” as a community member interested in what's going on in Wikidata and Wikibase. In my time as a WMDE Wikidata developer in Denny Vrandečić's initial team we have embraced community engagement. Makes sense, and should be fine.

However, purging all these pages is quite expensive. We could calculate the number and write it to page_props directly. That's a little bit hackish, but a lot faster, and not too horrible. It does needs more code to be written, but that shouldn't take more than a day or two. Worth it? I don't know.

Is it worth the effort? Anyone available to actually do this? Sounds nice, but if it means waiting for many months because this has no priority, I rather just run a purge bot.TASK DETAILhttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T163475EMAIL PREFERENCEShttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/settings/panel/emailpreferences/To: MultichillCc: daniel, Lydia_Pintscher, Ladsgroup, Aklapper, Multichill, QZanden, Izno, Wikidata-bugs, aude, Mbch331___

[Wikidata-bugs] [Maniphest] [Created] T163815: Lua error: "The ID entered is unknown to the system. Please use a valid entity ID." with valid q-code

2017-04-25 Thread Jarekt
Jarekt created this task.Jarekt added projects: Wikidata, MediaWiki-extensions-WikibaseClient.Herald added a subscriber: Aklapper.
TASK DESCRIPTIONLately I completed T89597 and rolled out on Commons [[Module:Creator]] that mimics [[Template:Creator]] but can also fetch any field from Wikidata if needed. The module is used by 28k creator templates on 1.6M pages. The issue I have is that out of 28k creator templates 12 show "The ID entered is unknown to the system. Please use a valid entity ID" error without any additional explanation. According to T143970, the error message is due to bad q-code, but all of the pages have valid q-codes. Strangely most

My request is to provide more usable information when throwing this error, like which q-code is not valid and in which line was it called. I also would appreciate any hints of how to debug this issue, and what might cause it. See c:User:Jarekt/a for example of the error.

Affected q-codes are: Q2441898, Q558060, Q146691, Q313638, Q19675193, Q113775, Q1394, Q33391, Q559531, Q1988310, Q51088, Q1978510.

[Wikidata-bugs] [Maniphest] [Commented On] T59665: editing data values using server-side parser/validation will disable "save" button until server responds

2017-04-25 Thread Danwe
Danwe added a comment.
The behavior you are describing means the user can smash the return key very early, and will entirely miss the preview that is shown after the input was parsed and formatted.

Might make sense to decline this if you want to hold the average user's hand rather than satisfy pro users. On the other hand, consider how in MW we allow saving wikitext edits without using preview first.

"Ad-hoc parsing" in this context means that, for example, a time value is stored exactly as the user has entered it, and only parsed when a machine-readable value is needed. All this would happen server-side.

Is this even being discussed anywhere? Sounds like a pretty insane idea for a multitude of reasons.TASK DETAILhttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T59665EMAIL PREFERENCEShttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/settings/panel/emailpreferences/To: DanweCc: Danwe, thiemowmde, Tobi_WMDE_SW, adrianheine, Snaterlicious, Lydia_Pintscher, QZanden, Izno, Wikidata-bugs, aude, Mbch331___

2017-04-25 Thread daniel
daniel edited the task description. (Show Details)
EDIT DETAILS...Both the function and the representation of a form's grammatical features is similar to the function and representation a lexeme's class and language. For this reason, presentation and manipulation of these things should work in a similar way.

Example user stories:
* as a novice editor, I see a form linked as "//gingen//, 3rd person, singular, imperfect"; I follow the link, and want to change "3rd person" to "2nd person". I expect this to work like editing a Lexeme's lemma, or an Item's description, since it is shown/used in the same way.
* as an experienced Wikidata editor new to Lexemes, I see the grammatical features "3rd person", "singular", and "imperfect" represented as (what seems to be) statements. I try to find the corresponding property, and fail. I try to formulate a query that uses these statements, and find no way.
* as an editor, I want to change the Lemma's class, and to adapt all the Forms' features accordingly. I expect this to work in similar ways, since the relationship between the lexical category and the Lexeme is similar to the relationship between the grammatical feature and the Form.TASK DETAILhttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T163785EMAIL PREFERENCEShttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/settings/panel/emailpreferences/To: danielCc: Jonas, Aklapper, daniel, QZanden, Izno, Wikidata-bugs, aude, Darkdadaah, Mbch331___

[Wikidata-bugs] [Maniphest] [Created] T163785: [Story] UX design for a Form's list of grammatical features

2017-04-25 Thread daniel
daniel created this task.daniel added projects: Story, Wikidata, Lexicographical data.
TASK DESCRIPTIONA form's grammatical features are given by a (possibly empty) list of Item Ids. Their purpose is similar to the purpose of descriptions: they disambiguate the form, and specify in which context the form is applicable. A "description" of the form may be composed by constructing a (comma separated) list of (the labels of) the items selected as grammatical features.

The UI should allow to see all the items selected as grammatical features for a given form, and allow that list to be edited, by adding or removing entries.

Both the function and the representation of a form's grammatical features is similar to the function and representation a lexeme's class and language. For this reason, presentation and manipulation of these things should work in a similar way.TASK DETAILhttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T163785EMAIL PREFERENCEShttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/settings/panel/emailpreferences/To: danielCc: Jonas, Aklapper, daniel, QZanden, Izno, Wikidata-bugs, aude, Darkdadaah, Mbch331___

After a conversation with Lydia yesterday, it seems like treating grammatical features "kind of like" statements is not useful:

2017-04-25 Thread thiemowmde
thiemowmde added a comment.
"Ad-hoc parsing" in this context means that, for example, a time value is stored exactly as the user has entered it, and only parsed when a machine-readable value is needed. All this would happen server-side.

There are no plans to implement something like this.

The behavior you are describing means the user can smash the return key very early, and will entirely miss the preview that is shown after the input was parsed and formatted. This is crucial in many cases, e.g. when the user types "01/02/2003" and expects this to become "January 1st", but it becomes "February 2nd".

All these considerations are the reason this got declined for now.TASK DETAILhttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T59665EMAIL PREFERENCEShttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/settings/panel/emailpreferences/To: thiemowmdeCc: Danwe, thiemowmde, Tobi_WMDE_SW, adrianheine, Snaterlicious, Lydia_Pintscher, QZanden, Izno, Wikidata-bugs, aude, Mbch331___

While I was working on T142104#2618898 I remember some frustration because the full-res Wikidata logo barely fits into the space the Echo extension gives us, and becomes fuzzy and blurry almost all the time. So I agree it's a very good idea to use the simplified favicon shape. I suggest to do so.

I'm just not sure if it should be blue or use the original colors. I'm also not absolutely sure if a 2px or 3px padding is best. Uhm, pals. I already went through all this when I created T142104#2618898. It makes me sad to see multiple (!) people going through all the same already solved issues again. Don't you think it would be worth it to avoid this somehow?

There is a 30px by 30px canvas for the icons reserved in the Echo CSS. But no existing icon is using this full canvas. All have a 2px or 3px padding. I considered this when I created all the versions I uploaded here, including the last one. Just scaling an image to 30px by 30px will most probably lead to one that looks like it is to big. The scaling should be done on a screenshot (which is what I did), to be able to see how it will look together with other Echo icons.TASK DETAILhttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T142104EMAIL PREFERENCEShttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/settings/panel/emailpreferences/To: thiemowmdeCc: WMDE-leszek, gerritbot, Ladsgroup, Izno, thiemowmde, Jan_Dittrich, Charlie_WMDE, Pginer-WMF, Aklapper, Lydia_Pintscher, matej_suchanek, Quiddity, Trizek-WMF, QZanden, SamanthaNguyen, JGirault, Wikidata-bugs, aude, Mbch331___

If it is that large (I'd say starting from 50x50px) we can safely use @thiemowmde 's version. No need for a favicon in that case. If it will gbe shown smaller on smaller screens I suggest sticking with the favicon.

For the 3rd party installations I've made a favicon of the wikibase logo. I've made two versions.

One is suited better up until 25px (which I suggest we should use in the tab on wikiba.se because currently it's just a blue smudge)

F7753448: WB_Favicon_blue16.svg

and one which is useful when the icon is 30px or larger which we can use for the echo notification.

2017-04-25 Thread daniel
daniel added a comment.
@thiemowmde Whether the diff view code for EntityContent is called or not depends on which way you ask for the diff. When comparing two different kinds of content, it's unclear which diff code to use - that's exactly the reason the exception is thrown.

The real solution to this problem would be to throw a more specific exception in this case, and catch it in Article or DifferenceEngine, and show a nice message. Or catch the condition earlier, before it triggers an exception, in Article or DifferenceEngine.TASK DETAILhttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T52202EMAIL PREFERENCEShttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/settings/panel/emailpreferences/To: danielCc: thiemowmde, hoo, aude, Addshore, Bugreporter, Ricordisamoa, Aklapper, Jasper, Legoktm, Lydia_Pintscher, daniel, Adik2382, Th3d3v1ls, Ramalepe, Liugev6, QZanden, Lewizho99, Maathavan, Izno, Wikidata-bugs, Jackmcbarn, Mbch331___

[Wikidata-bugs] [Maniphest] [Commented On] T59665: editing data values using server-side parser/validation will disable "save" button until server responds

2017-04-25 Thread Danwe
Danwe added a comment.
I don't think it's broken per se. In any case, supporting saving of unparsed values (i.e. ad-hoc parsing) is quite some new feature which would require a lot of work.

By “ad-hoc parsing” do you mean client side parsing of the values on the front-end? We did this before and it's unfeasible.

I believe the simplest solution to enabling the save button while validation is going on would be this:
If “save” gets clicked while a validation is still running then the actual “save” action will be deferred until validation is successful. If validation fails, the “save” action gets cancelled and the user gets some sort of visual feedback (which should be the case anyhow because of the invalid value). This behavior shouldn't require a lot of work and would be really neat.TASK DETAILhttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T59665EMAIL PREFERENCEShttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/settings/panel/emailpreferences/To: DanweCc: Danwe, thiemowmde, Tobi_WMDE_SW, adrianheine, Snaterlicious, Lydia_Pintscher, QZanden, Izno, Wikidata-bugs, aude, Mbch331___

My 2¢ on this: ChangeFactory should be split into a general factory in lib (defining the newForChangeType methods), and a RepoChangeFactory in the repo component, that has knowledge about EntityContent, Revision, etc. Any code that needs services or knowledge about repo concepts should be extracted into RepoChangeFactory.TASK DETAILhttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T75643EMAIL PREFERENCEShttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/settings/panel/emailpreferences/To: danielCc: Aleksey_WMDE, thiemowmde, JeroenDeDauw, Ricordisamoa, Aklapper, Wikidata-bugs, JanZerebecki, adrianheine, aude, daniel, QZanden, Izno, Mbch331___

2017-04-25 Thread Charlie_WMDE

hey @thiemowmde and @Ladsgroup thanks for your work on the icon.

Lydia and I had discussed to use the favicon instead of the full Wikidata logo since on a small scale it starts looking kinda fuzzy with all the tiny lines. Using only blue is a good idea I think because it then matches all other notifications which are kept in one of 3 colors (one of which is the blue you used).

Here's the favicon icon i suggest we use:
F7751646: WD_Favicon_blue.svg

For the 3rd party installations notification I'll think of smth in the next hour since we decided not to use the Wikimedia-colored database icon since it's not going to be used in a Wikimedia context.TASK DETAILhttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T142104EMAIL PREFERENCEShttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/settings/panel/emailpreferences/To: Charlie_WMDECc: WMDE-leszek, gerritbot, Ladsgroup, Izno, thiemowmde, Jan_Dittrich, Charlie_WMDE, Pginer-WMF, Aklapper, Lydia_Pintscher, matej_suchanek, Quiddity, Trizek-WMF, QZanden, SamanthaNguyen, JGirault, Wikidata-bugs, aude, Mbch331___

So instead of the setXyzServices call in the constructor, the constructor should accept the services as parameters. Should a newFromGlobalState function also be added to the pages, which would do roughly what the constructor does now? That’s what I’ve seen in WikibaseQualityConstraints, but as far as I can tell, it might not be necessary here, since repo/Wikibase.php can call the constructor with the right arguments when it sets up the special pages.TASK DETAILhttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T162540EMAIL PREFERENCEShttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/settings/panel/emailpreferences/To: Lucas_Werkmeister_WMDECc: Lucas_Werkmeister_WMDE, daniel, Aklapper, Lydia_Pintscher, Ladsgroup, QZanden, Izno, Wikidata-bugs, aude, Mbch331, Jay8g___

From a privacy standpoint, I don't see why the language of an editor should be a secret. It's valuable information that helps other users to connect with the user.

If I review language-agnostic content from users with whom I share no common language, my only choice is to revert the content or let it stand. I have no opportunity to explain the user why I reverted his edits. I would expect to allow non-English speaking people to focus on engaging with people with they share a common language to help them integrate themselves into Wikidata.

Of course, I would also appreciate if a limited version of this request gets implemented that only focuses on the language specific content (label/description/alias).TASK DETAILhttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T141866EMAIL PREFERENCEShttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/settings/panel/emailpreferences/To: ChristianKlCc: Elitre, Tbayer, Jura1, Lydia_Pintscher, Aklapper, ChristianKl, QZanden, Izno, Wikidata-bugs, aude, Mbch331___

Change 348080 adds a user script that shows a violation indicator, similar to Jan’s mockup. Here’s what it looks like:

(The particular constraints here are not very meaningful, just added for testing. Also, the extension currently doesn’t have different severities of violations, so there are no different icons we could show.)TASK DETAILhttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T97018EMAIL PREFERENCEShttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/settings/panel/emailpreferences/To: Lucas_Werkmeister_WMDECc: Lucas_Werkmeister_WMDE, gerritbot, Pintoch, Lydia_Pintscher, Jan_Dittrich, abian, Bene, Jonas, Ricordisamoa, dominic.sauer, Liuxinyu970226, Aklapper, Tamslo, Adik2382, Th3d3v1ls, Ramalepe, Liugev6, QZanden, Lewizho99, Maathavan, SamanthaNguyen, JGirault, Izno, Wikidata-bugs, aude, Mbch331___

Re: [Wikidata] Bogous cookie header in federated query

2017-04-25 Thread Neubert, Joachim
Hi Stas,

You are right, the header should be correct. There seems to be a long-lasting
issue in Apache HttpClient
(https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HTTPCLIENT-923), dating back to a
disambiguity in an old Netcape cookie spec.

Sorry, I've to address this to the Apache guys. Cheers, Joachim

[Wikidata-bugs] [Maniphest] [Commented On] T162673: Adjust code reading from wb_terms table to use full entity ID

2017-04-25 Thread Ladsgroup
Ladsgroup added a comment.
I checked the codebase and it seems it's not easily doable to do it without a feature flag. The code and queries will become complex and messy and I'm not sure if we want that. There are three places that depend on 'term_entity_id': TermSqlIndex, SqlEntitiesWithoutTermFinder, SqlEntityInfoBuilder some use it in WHERE (for delete/update/select) and some use in SELECT fields and process it later in other places (those parts need to handle it both cases too).TASK DETAILhttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T162673EMAIL PREFERENCEShttps://phabricator.wikimedia.org/settings/panel/emailpreferences/To: LadsgroupCc: Ladsgroup, Lydia_Pintscher, Aklapper, gerritbot, aude, WMDE-leszek, daniel, QZanden, Izno, Wikidata-bugs, Mbch331___
