Just for information: If an edit fails because of a CAPTCHA (missing or
not/false solved), the API should return all relevant information:

The url parameter is the link to load the captcha image from. With the id
parameter and the value of the user (who solves the CAPTCHA) you can retry the
save api call with the relevant data, e.g. (for an edit):

As the reasons for making the decision and the decision itself to split the repositories were not documented properly (in the sense of not at all), this matter is doomed to reappear again and again. I remember parts of the discussion which happend quite a while ago (like about two years) just as I remember @daniel and me having objections against moving components to GitHub. While it seems like we need to rewind all arguments, an outcome should be a clear and documented statement by Product Management. I think a particular pain point is the wide-spread and branched-out modularization. I smell the hope that, by moving all components to one place, the software and its internal relations would be more understandable. Just by moving the components that problem will not be solved though. The current situation is a modularization mess resulting in de facto closed source as no one is able to grasp the relations between all components without tackling a ridiculously steep learning curve. I have created a diagram trying to capture the PHP data model component on https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T75604 -- imagine that a dozen of times for all the components. While documentation could, at least, ease the problem, the reality is missing and outdated documentation just adding to the problem with the way up the hill being paved with disappointment as quite some modules are just not as generically useful as one would expect and/or they lack stability. Additionally, even the most basic component, the data model, is still under dispute. Another example is the Time value which is embarrassingly broken. Why would some external developer want to jump into that wavy sea at all? Well, maybe the software is indeed doing complex things and it seems like the amount of complexity is barely manageable by the core developers alone. As far as I am concerned, the move to GitHub was actually driven by the idea to open up to developers from outside the MediaWiki context as the amount of potential developers who could easily reuse these compontens, is higher on GitHub than on Gerrit. While the idea is totally legitimate, until now, that has failed in all matters. I am sure the intendend effect of having components being on GitHub can be generated but, in my opinion, not with the current component design. (e.g.: Why is there no independent generic coordinate or time parsing library that I could just dump into my project?) At the bottom line, as I see it, either we just give up on the idea of GitHub being the portal to more contributors and attractive reuse of individual components or we considerably rethink the component design which -- in my opinion -- is the actual problem anyway. adrianheine added a comment. Following Thiemo's analysis, I think we don't gain much by artificially grouping the terms properties and items have. The fact that we are not able to come up with a sane name for this adds up to the feeling that this is arbitrary and does not really correspond to anything from the domain we try to model. Thus, I agree that we should phase out Fingerprint and EntityTerms in the data models. The view code can, imho, continue to use ›entity terms‹ as a term, as long as we all know that neither all entities have terms nor that all entities have these kinds of terms. It might be wise to disable the did you mean and you can create parts when some results were found, especially if there is an exact match in label, description or alias. Suggestions are tailored for page titles, which Wikidata doesn't use. If I edit then undo the english description (my user language), it shows correctly above the term box but wrong in the term box. if i undo a site link or statement edit, also no problem. Note that the thumbnail size will need to be selectable through some input variable if you stuff it into one API req like this -- suitable size will depend on the device and how the client software chooses to show thumbs. (Note another workaround is to go ahead and do a prop=imageinfo request on all the given files as a second API hit. That's two round trips though which is sad, but at least you don't have to do one per image!) 1) I have an item with spanish description Film von Diao Yinan (2014)

2) edit the description to remove the year

3) click save
4) undo the edit (thus re-adding the year to the spanish description)

5) I am back on the item page, but the spanish description shows the previous
version before undo. (e.g. no year)

If I click edit, then it shows the correct version.

With regards to editing, there is another trade-off: TeX formula are a lot easier to edit by hand, but MathML is easier to handle by third party editors. Ideally, we would be able to convert between MathML and TeX on the fly. For simple things, that should work fine, but... Mathoid can display both, TeX and MathML input. You can open demo.formulasearchengine.com in a MathML disabled browser. Or click on any equation to see the difference in rendering. There are some editing tools for presentation MathML. But this does not really improves upon using tex that is very familiar to most authors. The intersting part is content MathML, that allows to describe the structure of an equation independent of its visual representation. However a content MathML editor is something that needs to be build. In additinon there the MathML content directories are not yet capable of covering full semantic formula information and would have to be extended... So all in all a lot of work that has to be done manually. While there is a big room for future developments, I'd start pragmatic and just store the tex string. If you need help to display a rendered representation with the Math extension I can help you with that... but it should not be hard and there are some examples in the MathSearch extension.
