TASK DESCRIPTIONRight now, if you enable constraint gadget and you go to Alan Turing item, you make an API request to https://www.wikidata.org/w/api.php?action="">, The response takes 3 seconds, it's 230K unzipped and 23KB zipped. The situation for items like Germany (Q183) is way worse. Takes 40 seconds to respond, 2.4 MB unzipped and 180 KB zipped.

What also makes the response very unhelpful is that it contains lots of compliance reports. By ditching that, things will be way more performant. As far as I can see, at the moment, the Maven build only adds the gui files to the package, without any build step. We could probably move the gui to a maven module and use the frontend-maven-plugin to execute the build steps required. And add the resulting artifact to the packaging.

Side note: it should be fairly easy to serve the gui files through jetty as well, which might make it easier for external users to run the service. Without getting into the specific numbers (which we will tune based on experience), I agree that we could (and probably should) have a short timeout, since we expect requests to be short... I'd say that in the context of this task, the important point is to specify that we expect the requests to be cheap. Which timeout do we set for this cluster? If they’re only for synchronous, user facing queries, then I’d think that WDQS’s 60 seconds are actually too long. TASK DESCRIPTIONSince we are creating a "more controlled WDQS cluster" (T178492), we should define more precisely what "more controlled" means and what kind of constraints we want to put in place on this new cluster. This is meant to be the start of a discussion, not a final decision yet:

Context
We want a WDQS cluster that can be used to serve synchronous user facing traffic. This requires high availability and fairly constant response times.

Rules


clients must be production services, no access from labs, or from the general internet
cluster must be used only for synchronous user facing traffic, no batch jobs
requests are expected to be cheap
clients use a specific user agent

I honestly don't know how to help you since you did not even asked a question.

The good thing about this issue is that you can debug it in your browser. You don't need to know much about the MediaWiki software, extensions, and such. You don't need a local development environment. The bad thing about this issue is that it's probably not worth your time. I don’t really understand that stack trace – is the WANObjectCache refreshing itself asynchronously?

The exception thrown by matchesRegularExpressionWithSparql is intentional – but I guess it needs to be caught and stored in the getWithSetCallback closure.
