  As described in T272346 , 
languages that are not known to MediaWiki (and not in `wmgExtraLanguageNames`/ 
`wgExtraLanguageNames`) are just appended to the, otherwise sorted, list of 
languages on Special:NewItem  
(and Special:NewProperty, although that is generally used much less). This list 
is created by `HTMLContentLanguageField`.
  
  In order to lessen/ remove our reliance on the `wgExtraLanguageNames´ 
setting, `HTMLContentLanguageField` should sort languages correctly regardless 
of their origin.

  I think an alternative we should consider is to remove the mention of the 
sort order completely (instead of changing it to “ascending”). The descending 
sort order was an intentional feature at the time; the ascending sort order 
isn’t really a feature on its own, but is rather dictated by the requirements 
of the database query, which has to be efficient. What do you think?

  This change is fine for Wikipedias, but for projects with many pages which 
are deliberately unconnected (eg Wikisource) is this problematic. 
  Yes, is possible to add magic word to every subpage, but there are some 
subpages for connecting (eg poems) and some for not (chapters), so this pages 
must be selected manually
