[WikiEducator] Re: Critical bugs in wiki-to-print
Another issue: Scenario: I want to add a saved collection to an open collection. 1) Start a collection 2) Load your saved collection 3) Choose append 4) Click show collection link -- the loaded collection is appended :-) Oops, there is a duplicate article in the collection. I remove it via the `remove link' on the article page (see previous posts with regards to why I did not use the lefthand side x). Good only one article in the collection. Oops, I don't really want the article in this collection at all. I try to remove it via the 'remove link' on the article page but there is only an 'add link'. So I seem to have a ghost article in my collection because I can't remove it because of the problems I have been experiencing with the lefthand side x for removing articles (see previous post) and now there is no 'remove link' on the lefthand side my collection of the article. The files used in this scenario were Pdf_testing and Pdf_testing2. Firefox 2.0 and WinXp. [WikiEducator] Re: Critical bugs in wiki-to-print
More issues of note: Using the x on the lefthand side of an article in a collection does not seem to remove it from the collection. It removes it from the visible list but not the collection. Test: 1)Add two articles to your collection. 2)Save your collection. Two articles appear :-) 3)Go back to your collection: Remove one article using the x, One article visible in list :-) 4) Save your collection as something else: Two articles appear in the saved collection :-( Using the lefthand side arrows to sort the articles seems to only affect what is visible and not what is produced or saved. Test: 1)Add two articles to your collection. 2)Save your collection. Two articles appear :-) 3)Go back to your collection: Move the bottom article up using the up arrow. Order in visible list is changed :-) 4) Save your collection as something else: Two articles appear in the saved collection in the original order -- not the sorted order. 5) Export your pdf and the order is the original order not the sorted order. Tested using FireFox 2.0 and WinXp Note: I saw a "if msiexx " flash in the logo/navigation area at one point during these tests. If it helps some of my saved collections are User:Kruhly/Collections/pdftesting4, pdftesting5, pdftesting6, pdftesting7 Rob On Feb 6, 2008 1:07 PM, Robert Kruhlak <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > A few more details on the "clear collections" issue. > > 1) Add Article Pdf_testing to collection > 2) Add Article Pdf_testing2 to collection > 3) Show collection link shows 2 articles in collection :-) > 4) Follow Show collection link: Pdf_testing and Pdf_testing2 show up > in my collection :-) > 5) Follow Clear collection link: Empty Collection (Pdf_testing and > Pdf_testing2 are removed from my collection) :-) > 6) Go to: Main_page, Pdf_testing, or I assume any other article in the > Main namespace > 7) Show collection link shows 2 articles in collection :-( > 8) Follow Show collection link: Pdf_testing and Pdf_testing2 show up > in my collection :-) > > Using Firefox 2.0 on WinXP. A few more details on the "clear collections" issue. 1) Add Article Pdf_testing to collection 2) Add Article Pdf_testing2 to collection 3) Show collection link shows 2 articles in collection :-) 4) Follow Show collection link: Pdf_testing and Pdf_testing2 show up in my collection :-) 5) Follow Clear collection link: Empty Collection (Pdf_testing and Pdf_testing2 are removed from my collection) :-) 6) Go to: Main_page, Pdf_testing, or I assume any other article in the Main namespace 7) Show collection link shows 2 articles in collection :-( 8) Follow Show collection link: Pdf_testing and Pdf_testing2 show up in my collection :-) Using Firefox 2.0 on WinXP. Also tested on IE 6 on WinXP with similar results. Logout and log back in and 2 article collection is still there. Tried with two user names: one with custom javascript, and one with default monobook. Same issues. Could it be a cache issue? Note: I also noticed that IE does not respect the nowrap style in the navigation bar template which makes the navigation bar look pretty bad. [WikiEducator] Re: Critical bugs in wiki-to-print
Erik -- Great to see this moving forward. Its a great technology! WE has been doing its best to keep track of bugs and issues. Here is the most up to date list I have: http://wikieducator.org/Help:Collections/Bug_reports Mission critical bugs/wishlist thoughts: Better 1:1 management of images regarding size, and placement on the page. At the moment its seems to me that a default size is being used. When going live on WMF projects -- I'd recommend a more refined "error message" when the parser breaks. For example: "We've implement phase 1 of the wiki ==> pdf functionality. Currently we do not support all wiki and html syntax. The most likely reasons for the pdf page generator failing are: " I'd also provide a link to suggestions or work arounds on this error message page. I'm curious to know how the technology will handle server load and demands on processing time. For example -- if a single pdf page is requested, or collection created it might be a good idea to keep the pdf output somewhere and keep track if there were any changes since the last pdf generated -- if not, just provide the most recently generated pdf. On big WMF projects -- this could save processing resources. Anyway -- this is way out of my league and will leave this to the experts . Interesting -- The clear collection works on my box. This might be a cross browser/OS issue with javascript? I'm using the latest Ubuntu GNU/Linux distro with the standard Firefox install. Erik: New version seems to have fixed the complex templates bug so that's cool. Not critical, but it if you try PDFing this page: http://www.wikieducator.org/Using_Audacity/The_Interface for example ... it seems to rezise all the images that aren't using |frame to fit the entire page width. brent. Hi Erik, See Help_talk:Collections for some notes. Also I have not been able to clear a collection, using the "Clear collections" link. I have to go back to the individual pages and remove them using the "remove article" link in the left hand sidebar. I will try some more tests over the next couple of days.
