[Wikimedia-l] Wikimédia France board update

2016-05-30 Thread Jean-Frédéric Berthelot
Dear fellow Wikimedians,

As you may know Christophe Henner, the Chair of Wikimédia France, has
resigned from the board, as he is moving on to his next challenge at the
Board of Trustees of the Wikimedia Foundation. We won't even try to
summarise in a few sentences everything Christophe has brought to Wikimédia
France in his 10 years stint as a board member ; let us just deeply thank
him for his service!

Our board of trustees had a meeting last week-end, during which we elected
new officers of the board, following the resignation of Christophe.

* Samuel Le Goff is our new Vice-chair,
Samuel is 42 years old and lives in Paris. He works as a journalist, former
parliamentary assistant for many years. He has been in the board since late
2014. He helps volunteers to deal with French governmental and public
organization relationships, public consultations, and to expose Wikimedia
positions in public debates. He will be in charge of internal organization
and governance too.

* Emeric Vallespi is our new Chair,
Emeric is 29 years old and lives in Montpellier (south of France). He works
as a Branch director in a bank. He has been at the board since late 2012,
serving as Vice-chair since 2014. He's involved in internal organization,
governance and international affairs and is interested in internal control,
finance and strategy topics.

Pierre-Selim Huard, our Secretary, will be in charge of the international
affairs too. Other current officers are continuing in their functions.

Our board is now structured as follow:

* Emeric Vallespi, Chair
* Samuel Le Goff, Vice-chair
* Guillaume Goursat, Treasurer
* Sébastien Beyou, Deputy treasurer
* Pierre-Selim Huard, Secretary
* Jean-Frédéric Berthelot, Deputy secretary
* Edouard Hue, Board member
* Benoît Prieur, Board member
* Florian Pepellin, Board member

Cheers,

Re: [Wikimedia-l] How to find the Wikimedia Commons Android App form Google Play?

2015-04-15 Thread Jean-Frédéric
 Hi Nasir,

 I am interested to use by myself and encourage others to use the Wikimedia
 Commons Android App [1]. But the problem is, i could not find the app by
 searching at Google Play and it is not listed even under the apps developed
 by Wikimedia Foundation[2].

See https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Mobile_app :

[The Wikimedia Commons mobile app] was available for Android and iOS but
 has not been maintained in a while and will likely not see further
 development, thus it has been removed from Play Store and App Store per this
 e-mail thread [1]

[Wikimedia-l] Wikimédia France board handbook

2014-12-09 Thread Jean-Frédéric Berthelot
Dear movement fellows,

tl;dr

Please find on Meta the Wikimédia France board handbook (in French)

https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimédia_France/Guide_du_conseil_d%27administration
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikim%C3%A9dia_France/Guide_du_conseil_d%27administration

== Long story ==

Wikimédia France is moving forward with its continuous improvement process
and wishes for an adapted governance. After revising our organizational
structure [0], and putting in place the systematic evaluation of our
programs [1], we do not want that governance becomes the limiting factor of
our improvement.

Since the hiring of our Executive Director who leads all staff, we were
aware that the board tasks and processes had to evolve. That meant no more
micro-management or operational stuff (except for certain board roles)
and focus on strategy.

To that effect, at the occasion of our previous General Assembly, the board
drafted a board handbook [2], heavily inspired by the Wikimedia Foundation
one (thanks for sharing!)

The goal was to make sure every current member of the Board had the same
vision of our governance, and to ensure that applicants for the Board have
a good vision of what it means to be on the Board (expectations, posture,
do's  don'ts, ...) - like a shareholders' agreement.

This shared version is our first iteration as we anticipate to complete, or
adapt, this document according to our governance's evolution. It is
relatively specific to our self-identified strengths and weaknesses. We
also think that it is closely linked to our structure, our background and
local context (relation with our ED, local labour law...).

But despite all these specificities, we have (or will have) similar stages
of development and governance issues: that's why we share with you this
Handbook, with the hope that the initiative or the contents can be useful
for you - even if it's in French.

== Process ==

The handbook writing was led by Émeric Vallespi, supported by the rest of
the board. It was then shared with a restricted circle where we gathered
input from 6 former board members, with almost 100 comments. We then
communicated the document to our members before the General Assembly, and
finally published it on Meta where it joined the Austrian Kodex in
[[Category:Governance]]. Sharing is caring :)

Re: [Wikimedia-l] Slide deck about Wikimedia?

2014-05-26 Thread Jean-Frédéric
Hello,

Hello, Where can I find recent presentations about Wikimedia and what each
 of the main projects is for? I visited outreach.wikimedia.org but didn't
 see slides or overviews.  Thanks!

You might want to check out https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Presentations.

It’s probably not super up-to-date, but many folks indicate a way to get
the source ODP file (usually by contacting them, SlideShare link, etc).

Re: [Wikimedia-l] Commons' frontpage probably shouldn't prominently feature a decontextualised stack of corpses.

2014-05-13 Thread Jean-Frédéric
Hi,

As have been brought up by Risker earlier in this conversation, Common's
 MOTD on
 that day was transcluded to the mainpages of projects that do not use one
 of the five languages in which context for the video was provided.

1/ Which projects? A GlobalUsage on the current MOTD (as well as the one
from yesterday and the one from tomorrow) seems to indicate that no
Wikimedia projects transclude the MOTD.

2/ Assuming they exist, do these projects *also* use the actual thumbtime
hardcoded for its display as MOTD on Wikimedia Commons?

Re: [Wikimedia-l] Funding programs for individuals.

2014-03-01 Thread Jean-Frédéric
*Epic thread unearthing!*

Thanks to everybody who added more information - Jan, Itzik, Nicolas,
Christoph, Siko  Jessie.

  Since apparently there was no Meta page for that(tm) (yet!) I went ahead
 and
 drafted https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Jean-Frédéric/
 Funding_programs

 The relevant Meta page is https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants
 It was written mainly with information from the Wikimania 2011 session
 pad, so it may be slightly outdated. Can you please merge yours in

Nemo - I have no idea why we are moving to ElasticSearch: *you* should be
implemented as the search backend for Meta - and MediaWiki.org and Bugzilla
while we are at it ;-þ

The table is now merged in https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants.
Please fix any oversight I may have made in the process, and add any
missing information.

(It is my understanding that grantmaking programs will be a focus of the
next Wikimedia Conference - I look forward more conversation happening on
this topic!)

Cheers,

 well, BigBlueButton is completely open source, including the flash

Except that it appears the required Flash version is not available under
Linux, except if using the proprietary Chrome.

Back then in April I extensively tested BBB - the found issues were
reported to the developers.

https://code.google.com/p/bigbluebutton/issues/detail?id=1243

These issues will not be fixed, given the current work done with HTML5 +
WebRTC.

[Wikimedia-l] Funding programs for individuals.

2013-09-01 Thread Jean-Frédéric
Hi folks,

While watching the current changes to Wikimedia France microgrants program
implemented, I was curious to know which Wikimedia entities had similar
funding programs for individuals - how they worked, how we could learn form
each other.

Since apparently there was no Meta page for that(tm) (yet!) I went ahead and
drafted https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Jean-Frédéric/Funding_programs

I dug my information out of my email archives and FDC proposal forms, so I
could totally have missed some programs - please add the ones you know
about!

Of course, it would be more useful to have more detailed information on
every program.
Together with Caroline Pierre-Selim we threw some ideas on what we
thought was interesting to know about the programs, but that's still very
alpha - please add more ideas!

Looking forward to your thoughts about this!

Cheers,
