For those going around the large Maidan in front of Mumbai University (where WikiConference was held) - Fort is littered with memorials and busts. Choose a large telephoto lens where cops and others are sticky to allow photography of statues in public panorama, such as Bombay High Court. Hi, I appreciate the wise decision from Indian Wikipedia community to opt out of Wikimania bid until next few years. Even Wikiconference India need not be an annual event considering the amount of human and financial resources spent on it. What we need is strengthening local communities in each language and city by means of more meetups, unconferences, outreach, on project activity and events with specific goals like hackathons. Not of my business what you do in India, but here is my 2 cents. I think that a nacional Conference for India is a HUGE job (Comming for a country that is equaly huge, I can imagine the several logistic problems to deslocate people from one city to another). So my suggestion is to make several mini-confereces organized by state (India is organized by states, right?) like the series of Wikipedia Academies. That will teach local teams all around India to organize small conferences (not bigger than 100 people) and minimize costs and problems. [Wikimediaindia-l] [Wikipedia-gu] Report on small meetup in Ahmedabad
Hello everyone, On 24th January 2012, a small meetup was organized in L.D. College of Engineering Ahmedabad, I thank Kothari Harsh and Shah Smit from the college to organize this on such short notice (less than 24 hours). After the successful photo walk and a small Wiki 11 celebration, I thought this would help out in sustaining a community there too. The meetup was attended by 7 people in total, I gave them a small presentation of Wikipedia and idea of how exactly the community works and what does a community do. I also shared my experiences as a CA in IEP and as an editor on EN and GU WP too for past 1 year. After the presentation we had a good discussion on how they can help building a strong community from Gujarat, Kartik Mistry shared his experiences of working collaboratively in FOSS and Debian Community.
