Re: [Wikimediaindia-l] [WMIN-Members] Re: Vote for new Creative Commons India Logo

2013-11-04 Thread John Carter
Kudos to the winner of this so called "competition".
Hearty congratulations to the winner but, I suspect the selected "winning"
entry for the new Creative Commons India logo lacks lot of creativity.
And still its ambiguous how the best designs got disqualified and the good
ones weren't selected.
Maybe we're looking into a situation where a total lack of creativity &
motivation is observed.

Re: [Wikimediaindia-l] Short-term assignment at CIS-A2K

2013-11-04 Thread Aarti K. Dwivedi
Hey,
I am a newbie to Wikimedia-India. I have been working with the Wikisource
community since my GSoC
intern started. First of all, I think this project is a really nice
opportunity to increase our visibility.

I also request Ansuman to be a bit more civil. Being nice and respectful
doesn't hurt. Such kind of behavior
is not acceptable in a mailing list where everyone is volunteering just out
of interest. Also, in the 10 months
that I've been with Wikimedia, I am yet to see such rudeness on the mailing
list.

Cheers,
Aarti

Re: [Wikimediaindia-l] Use of Fair use messages from Wikipedia in a CD for distribution in India

2013-11-04 Thread Shiju Alex
A detailed workflow of Malayalam wikipedia CD is documented here (in
English). http://shijualex.in/creating-malayalam-wikipedia-cd/

\\A) Whether we can include all the non free content on CD?\\
>

For non-free images we need to meet few criteria. See this for details
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Non-free_content#Images

But I found some of the images currently tagged as non-free in Telugu
wikipedia will not fall under fair use license. For example this
image.
As mentioned in the above blog post it is better to include only
Free-Licensed images in the CD. See the section "*STEP 3 – Verifying the
license of the images*" in the above blog post. To be on the safer it is
better to include only free images from Commons in the CD.

\\B) Whether WMF/WMIN will approve the use of Wikipedia Logo on the
> cover?\\
>

Yes. Ask WMF/WMIN. For the recent release of the second edition of the
Malayalam wikisource CD also Malayalam community took permission from WMF
to use logos. It is advised to get permission before using the logos in the
CD.

\\C) Any other precaution/disclaimers that need to be included on CD to
> prevent any legal dispute in future.\\
>

Yes. This is very important. See the section "Step 6 – Creating content for
copyright, disclaimer, and other supporting pages" in the above blog post.

Dear All,

Can we please stop this conversation now? It has been long since any more
accusations are made, but lately we have seen rather far many advises here.
If these words came in-time, they would have served the purpose.

There is no point in keeping this conversation alive forever.

Have a festival spirit and lets get back to our normal lives.

Happy (belated) Diwali and Happy (Gujarati) New Year!

Re: [Wikimediaindia-l] [WMIN-Members] Re: Vote for new Creative Commons India Logo

2013-11-04 Thread Srikanth Ramakrishnan
John,
Just to remind you. Some logos were disqualified because they weren't
ratified by Creative Commons HQ.
As for more creativity, I did ask several of designer friends to
contribute; maybe if others had spread the word, we might have had more
entries.
At the end of the day, there were multiple entries and people did vote,
making it an actual competition, and not a so called one.

Cheerio,
