The objective of the policy is to facilitate access to Government of India owned shareable data and information in both human readable and machine readable forms through a network all over the country in a proactive and periodically updatable manner, within the framework of various related policies, Acts and Rules of the Government, therefore, permitting a wider accessibility and use of public data and information. The NDSAP policy is designed to promote data sharing and enable access to Government of India owned data for national planning and development. It would be absolutely fantastic if we can organise ongoing training and sensitisation sessions for government departments in order to assist them to streamline timely uploading of public information. These may also be conducted at universities where scientific research is published, for the publishing departments. They don't have to be wiki sessions per se, although as we know wiki is a very useful tool. But a lot of departments today (including NIC, I fear) seem to think that uploading .doc and scanned paper documents (even the Gazeete of India) is the same thing as publishing online. The statement released by Pranesh specifically states that the documents published online have to be machine readable.
