[Wikimediauk-l] Wikimania Bid

2009-03-27 Thread joseph seddon
Heya guys. I managed to get the opportunity to send an email. I havnt been able
to get to the bid page and am unsure whether I am going to be able to get
access before the deadline so if people could look over the page once more and
do what work they feel is needed.

Can I also remind people about the irc meeting with the jurors on sunday at
2000 (that should include DST). A good turnout would be much appreciated. Any
concerns that people have that I could answer before the meeting so that we
are all on the same wavelength should be posted to this list.

Hi! We had a meeting about the bit on Tuesday - you were greatly
missed! No-one knew quite where you had got to with accommodation -
did you find a college (or colleges) with room for us? If not, we're
going to have to claim that having a roof over delegates' heads is a
minor issue that will be sorted out after the deadline!

2009-03-27 Thread Andrew Turvey

Is there any way we can opt-out of this for uk.wikimedia.org?

Subject: [ORG-action] Block Phorm

This week, we raised the pressure on Phorm, by asking major websites
to block Phorm from intercepting their data.

We’ve yet to have a firm decision from many of these sites – Facebook,
MSN, Google, Youtube, AOL, Yahoo, Amazon and Ebay. But others,
including several major sites, have already agreed to block Phorm.
Find out more about this on the blog next week.

Right now, we need to pile on the pressure. Once sites start blocking
Phorm, more people will understand that the concerns are real, and
Phorm can be stopped.

== Take Action ==

1 If you’re on Facebook, join the group:

2 Blog about it! Tweet the FB link – get the message out to your friends.

3 Block Phorm: opt your website out, and let us know by emailing
blockph...@openrightsgroup.org

4 Email your favourite sites. Make the emails FAO Chief Privacy
Officer. Take the text from our standard letter here:

You would need server side access and even then you would run into
issues with wikimedia foundation policy of allowing access as widely
 as possible.

This is, indeed, something to be determined at the foundation level.
They might be receptive - it's worth starting a discussion (perhaps on
foundation-l).
