Last time I tried, Google Hangout required not only a Google account but
also Google+. You then needed to install a propietary plugin that
refused to work / be installed. That's my experience with Google Hangout.

Connecting instead to a YouTube stream (RTSP I guess?) while reading on
irc looks promising.

Re: [Wikitech-l] Welcome Željko Filipin, QA Engineer

2012-10-07 Thread Platonides
Welcome Željko!
I can directly type characters like Ẑ and Ź, but I don't have a caron in
my keyboard. I think you are the first one at WMF with a name I can't
type but is still in latin alphabet. :)

[Wikitech-l] Partial outage today

2012-10-07 Thread Erik Moeller
Hi folks,

We had issues with our old fallback media storage server (the one
we're replacing on Monday [1]), causing cascading issues on the
cluster, starting around 5PM UTC. The outage affected editors, as well
as readers viewing uncached pages. Everything should be back to
normal.

Thanks to Domas/Asher/Ariel/Leslie/Jeremy/CT and anyone else who helped.

Erik

Re: [Wikitech-l] Media infrastructure maintenance (uploads disabled) Friday Oct 5, 11 am UTC

2012-10-07 Thread Derk-Jan Hartman
It might be smart to run a sitenotice (at least on commons)
One of the few occasions where such notices actually make sense in my opinion.
