Install native Windows Installer manually. To do this, install dcom98 first. Then run instmsia.exe. The install will complain, but it will leave behind all the files you need in Windows\Installer\InstMsi0. Copy all the files in there to Windows\system, and set msi.dll and msiexec.exe to native. 2. Install Windows Script 5.6. You can download it from here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=0a8a18f6-249c-4a72-bfcf-fc6af26dc390DisplayLang=en Keep in mind that it's the English version though. To install it, set setupapi to builtin and run the file. 3. Run Palm Desktop setup like normal, and it will install everything you need. Of course, running palm desktop is a different story (there is a crash in WinMM that stops it from running.) I'm currently working on getting Hotsync to work with my USB cradle using the visor driver, but there's some problems with that. I'll post a dump of the messages I get and see if I can make something happen. Thanks for the help :). James

Why not a compromise, then ? I'm sure three space indents are clear enough, but do not involve excessive typing. This was a BC++ 4.5 CD I bought years ago. Re: Borland C++ 4.5
The screen was corrupted - the install was a small window in the corner (ie, it took over the shell window), but when it tried to create a desktop icon (I think) the whole screen became a patchwork of colours. Speaking with installshield. I thought the thing was hanging and infact it was popping up a modal dlg with a yes/no or whatever and wine was failing to bring it to the front. If the BC installer is hogging the whole screen and you are getting a similar disfunction in wine you may think it is hung when it is not. There is a line in .wine/config that allows you to catch badly behaved installers in 600x800 window so that you can still access the rest of the system. It's fairly unlikely that an installer will really cripple your kernel to the point where you have to power-off. Borland C++ 4.5
When I tried to install BC++ 4.5, the installation proceeded normally. However, when I clicked Finish, it trashed my X server, causing the system to stop responding to key presses and the mouse. I could not even kill the X server, and so had to pull the power cord out. Is this a known problem, and will I still be able to use my Development identity ? -- Andrew You can be the captain I will draw the chart Sailing into destiny Closer to the heart Closer to the Heart by Rush (A Farewell to Kings, 1977) ~
Re: extracting window icons
Saying Yes to Create Desktop Icon during installation allows these icons to be extracted onto the desktop. Alternatively, get a resource editor and manually extract the icon into a file. Re: windows file dialogs with unix file path
This is a Windows program and people want to use Unix paths. So the 'unix://' in front of the path is a protocol, not a path. Like when you are browsing the internet using http, and wamt to download from an FTP server, you preface the address with ftp:// Andrew You can be the captain I will draw the chart Sailing into destiny Closer to the heart Closer to the Heart by Rush (A Farewell to Kings, 1977) ~ Vincent Béron wrote: Le ven 22/04/2005 à 20:09, Francois Gouget a écrit : On Sat, 23 Apr 2005, Andrew Neil Ramage wrote: What about writing Unix paths like an URL ? Implementation's trivial too, we would create a symbolic link to '/' called 'z:' in dosdevices... People wanting access to unix paths in Wine want a normal unix path, ie /path/to/file instead of z:/path/to/file (or z:\path\to\file). The z: part is not unix, and that breaks the integration (use of a drive letter while on unix). The other thing is if/when z: doesn't map to / anymore... how do you add it back from within winecfg? Hmm, I feel like I've seen that before. Where??? No idea. Maybe you should submit a patch to Wine :) Vincent
Re: windows file dialogs with unix file path
What about writing Unix paths like an URL ? So you would have unix://path/to/file Andrew You can be the captain I will draw the chart Sailing into destiny Closer to the heart Closer to the Heart by Rush (A Farewell to Kings, 1977) ~ Alexandre Julliard wrote: Michael Jung [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: That's a good point about the heuristic. So probably unix paths should just be passed through, without searching for a valid drive letter based wine path. This would also cleanly separate case sensitive path names from case insensitive ones. (I'm assuming, but am not quite sure of, that there is a cheap and robust way to distinguish unix paths from windows paths just by inspecting the string. Might be hard especially for relative paths.) That of course is the whole problem: you cannot reliably identify unix paths just by looking at the string.

Response from NoteWorthy
I wrote NoteWorthy support about the problem of opening the MIDI mapper. Here is their response. Hi: My question is how do you detect the MIDI mappers ? The MIDI Mapper actually has a hard coded device ID on Windows. There is no need to detect it. Any other device listed in Tools, Options, Midi, Available play devices are detected using the multi-media subsystem. Re: Sorce for Wine MIDI Mapper ?
Thanks. I probably won't be able to fix it - I noticed that it might be a registry problem. From the comments at the start of winmm.c: /* TODO * + it seems that some programs check what's installed in *registry against the value returned by drivers. Wine is *currently broken regarding this point. Alternatively, it may be a notification issue. Wine MIDI Mapper
In trying to get a Windows music composition program (www.noteworthycomposer.com) working, I have been unable to hear playbacks of music because the Wine MIDI Mapper does not open. Does anyone have any idea what is causing this problem, and if there is a fix available ? I am using Mandrake 10.0, Gnome 2.4 and Wine-20050211. -- Andrew [hackcoughsniffle] Internal Virus Database corrupt
