steer clear of St. Louis for obvious reasons.

We did something similar to this at a customer's site.

People can use the service, unrestricted, for 2 hours. After that they are
kicked off and have to resign in. It becomes a real hassle to use more than
2 hours.

If it is a Mikrotik AP you could do a connect list and limit the signal
strength to a respectable number. This way anyone who is further away from
the AP would not meet the minimum threshold to connect.

Otherwise I would do some scripting. Have a time limit of a couple of
hours. After the couple of hours the ³customer² is added to an access list
for 30 minutes or so redirecting all port 80 traffic to the restaurant¹s
homepage or ³we know who you are². That would be annoying enough for
someone who is pointing an antenna at the restaurant to look elsewhere.

Re: [WISPA] [WISPA Members] Suggestions on high-powered indoor CPEs?

2010-07-08 Thread Marlon K. Schafer
signatureWhy do you want this? Higher output power on the AP doesn't always
mean greater range to the consumer.

That's a function of both tx and rec. power.

I'd suggest that you just put some higher gain antennas in if you need more
range.

Or use more AP's (often a good choice for an indoor system as it allows for
more users as well).

Having said all of that, Readylink (used to be Compex) makes a 1 watt radio
card. I've tried them in some MT ap's and they seem to work ok. I normally
turn them down to 15 to 17 dB though.

Hope that helps Martha!

I solved a problem similar to this some time back. I waited to reply to
this thread until I found the files I was looking for.

If you place a very directional antenna, like a corner reflector in the
front corner of a store and point it to the back, you can limit the coverage
to the building.

I devised a corner reflector that is made of card stock and aluminum foil.
You rubber cement both of the pages I include here together with a layer of
foil between them. It slips over the short antenna on a wireless router and
directs the energy 90 degrees. Then turn down the power!

I solved a problem similar to this some time back. I waited to reply to
this thread until I found the files I was looking for.

If you place a very directional antenna, like a corner reflector in the
front corner of a store and point it to the back, you can limit the
coverage
 to the building.

I devised a corner reflector that is made of card stock and aluminum foil.
You rubber cement both of the pages I include here together with a layer
of
foil between them. It slips over the short antenna on a wireless router
and
directs the energy 90 degrees. Then turn down the power!

 Mike
