Re: [WISPA] Switch with vlan
To prevent broadcast traffic between ports in the same vlan, you can do this using switchport protected in cisco catalyst 3550: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst3550/software/release/12.1_4_ea1/configuration/guide/Swbcsup.html#wp1029319 Hope this helps Mark Butch Evans wrote: I am in need of a switch (3, actually) that will allow me to prevent all communications between ports (vlans), but will trunk the traffic out an untagged port to the hotspot controller. Re: [WISPA] Network Monitoring and Graphing
We use nagios for alerting and caci for graphing and trending. Let me know if you need help with setup or integration. Mark Jory Privett wrote: I am looking some a software package that does network monitoring and graphing. I have used MRTG for graphing before. I have looked at WhatsUp, JFFNMS and Niagos before. I want to be able to graph traffic on network ports of my routers (Cisco and Mikrotik) and wireless equipment. I also would like it to notify me if a device is down either by email or preferably SMS. Monitoring mail and web servers would be an added plus. I am curious what others use for this type of application, what they like.dislike about it and if they would recommend it to someone else. Re: [WISPA] Blackberry vs. Palm
In my experience, Blackberry is much better for emailing. The scroll wheel and the software are a lot more intuitive for heavy email users. Palm has more apps and is better for people that need to do web apps or special mobile apps. Mark Cliff Leboeuf wrote: My cell plan for my office is due next month. Currently, we only have voice plans. However, I am considering adding data for a few of my employees to be able to use email. I have the option of Blackberry and Palm phones. For those of you that have compares each, which solution would you recommend and why. Hybodus isn't very flexible or customizable.. I have used it but I much prefer our nagios+cacti combo. Re: [WISPA] Need good router
Can you give a little more info on your requirements, you could probably get by with a used Cisco for maybe $300-500. How much traffic (average, max mbps) will you be routing? Do you only need 2 ethernet interfaces? Mark David Ellis wrote: Hey guys, I could use some advice on routers, I need to do NAT and static out of the same router and I do not think Comp-USA stocks this kind of stuff. Besides paying 1500 or so for a Cisco can anyone guide me in a better and more cost efficient way?
