RE: [WISPA] 5.3/5.8 GHz Antenna Suggestion

2007-01-04 Thread Marketing
They come with the standard u-bolts, but they will accommodate a 4" u-bolt
as well (at this point we are not offering a 4" u-bolt, but might in the
future if there is enough demand). I think most measurements are based on
the outside diameter so the 2" galvanized pipe would work with our standard
u-bolt.

Nt quite sure.

Hello Tim,

When purchasing the grids the next time, select the HDGD58-29

antennas.

These come with a new L-Bracket that attaches to the reflector in 4
locations. The L-Bracket is also tapped for easy installation. This

can

be
seen on page 2 of the spec sheet:

http://pacwireless.com/products/GD58_Data_Sheet.pdf

If needed, these new L-Brackets will accommodate a 4" U-Bolt (U-Bolts

not

provided).

Drop me your address and we can send you a sample of the L-bracket.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks...to confirm...

It sounds like the only thing that is different is the L-Bracket to make it
the HDGD5X-XX?

Hello Mark,

Yes, the new model will work fine with the stock that distributors have on
hand or parts that have been shipped in the past.

The parts can be purchased separately. Part #'s are as follows:

5600687 - L-Bracket Only
5200223 - Wire Grid Bracket kit
5200224 - Die Cast Bracket kit

I do use their dishes where I have a large enough tower, water tower or a
roof. I will tell ya though - - the 29dbi grids are mighty fine, much
less

expensive than a solid dish, wind load is no comparison as well as the
ease
of mounting. If you are leasing tower space - - the grid is a no brainer
unless you have to have the extra db that comes with a dish.

I have usually used Trango backhauls, so I have not had to worry about 5
GHz

antennas and what to choose. Now I'm going to try a MikroTik backhaul
with
a CM9. Currently, I've got two applications:

1. 2-mile link that I can perhaps use 5.3GHz over.

2. 8-mile link that I'll go 5.8GHz over.

What antennas have you used to accomplish links such as these...

Also, kI have heard that the output power of the CM9 in a MikroTik can
be

adjusted. Experience?

Re: [WISPA] 5.3/5.8 GHz Antenna Suggestion

2006-12-31 Thread Travis Johnson

Hi,

We use either a GPS at each side, or just bearing coordinates and a
compass. I have aligned several links at 20+ miles only doing one side
and then going to the other side and having a perfect signal. :)

And actually the longer the distance the easier it becomes... most
5.8ghz dishes have around a 4 degree beamwidth... which means at 30
miles is a much broader area than at 5 miles, thus easier to get inside
that beam.

We aligned a 137 mile link (just for testing) within 10 minutes. ;)

I have aligned 5.8ghz links up to 73 miles (and even a test link at 137
miles) within 5 minutes start to finish. Is it possible you have another
problem?

Re: [WISPA] 5.3/5.8 GHz Antenna Suggestion

2006-12-31 Thread Mark Koskenmaki
My experience as well. The mount is wayyy to flimsy.

Equinox has some much heavier duty mounts which I hope to get my hands on in
a week or two. They would fix that flimsy thing right up and make it quite
solid.

I have seen an example of one that wasn't for the grids, and they are
incredibly solid.

Re: [WISPA] 5.3/5.8 GHz Antenna Suggestion

2006-12-30 Thread Travis Johnson

Hi,

Having personally aligned many, many 2ft and 3ft dishes at 5.3ghz -
5.8ghz, I can say that I have never actually found a "side lobe" with
any of our links. The signal starts low and goes up as we find center,
and then slowly drops down on the other side. The only links I have
ever actually seen (and incorrectly aligned to) a side lobe was with
38ghz. Are you sure you are seeing a side lobe?

I have aligned 5.8ghz links up to 73 miles (and even a test link at 137
miles) within 5 minutes start to finish. Is it possible you have
another problem?

To be honest our installer seems to be having issues getting it right. I actually think we'll get it next time. There are 3 cases:
side lobe to side lobe
main lobe to side lobe
main lobe to main lobe

We started out with side lobe to side lobe. In the second attempt we briefly saw what I believe was main lobe to main lobe, but person to person communication problems forced us to settle for main lobe to side lobe, which was 5 dB more RSSI and not the 10 dB we had seen or hoped for.

Re: [WISPA] 5.3/5.8 GHz Antenna Suggestion

2006-12-30 Thread Tim Kerns
The die cast would be stronger... the issue is the mount only makes contact
at the 3 screws to the grid, this allows the grid to flex and move in the
wind. On a 2.4 feed horn the square tube has a "U" shape clamp that ties the
grid and feed horn to the mount making it stronger. I spoke to support @
PacWireless over 18 months ago, I was told they were looking at the mount,
but never heard if it was redesigned. I might add that using the grid in the
horizontal position, it does not flex as much.

Is it the mount or the grid itself. I haven't noticed it with the mount,
but I know moving the wire grids around they will deflect. Get a couple
of the die-cast ones if you don't have any and see if they are better.

less
expensive than a solid dish, wind load is no comparison as well as the
ease

of mounting. If you are leasing tower space - - the grid is a no brainer
unless you have to have the extra db that comes with a dish.

1. 2-mile link that I can perhaps use 5.3GHz over.

2. 8-mile link that I'll go 5.8GHz over.

What antennas have you used to accomplish links such as these...

RE: [WISPA] 5.3/5.8 GHz Antenna Suggestion

2006-12-30 Thread Gino A. Villarini
You can use 5.3 with 28db dishes and your tx set to 3 - 4 db power, that
would give you a expected rsss of -75, good if the area is clean of noise.

Or do 5.8 full power and expect a -63 using cm9 cards

Are we preferring their grids to dishes?

Mark,

I have several 8 mile 5.3GHz links (YMMV) using PacWireless 26dbi grids,
MT & CM9's. IMHO you can't go wrong using the PacWireless antennas. I have
built a wireless network that covers 12% of Louisiana utilizing their
antennas exclusively for my BH. Well - I do have several of the Trango
dual

polarity ext's.

Also, kI have heard that the output power of the CM9 in a MikroTik can be
adjusted. Experience?

2006-12-30 Thread Travis Johnson
The PacWireless dishes, panels and grids (depending on the gain you
need, mounting, etc.) all work well. Also, you don't need to adjust the
power settings in the MT... just leave it default, it works better.
