They're not really "dual" they're "either/or".

One panel to do BOTH would be awesome, but for now nothing of the sort exists,
save for the dual-pol dishes for use with orthogon,
etc...

I was told by superpass that they are dual, thats the only reason we
bought them. the "either/or" ones are the single jack ones, the
dual-jack ones are dual-band.

That's a smart move. And you can buy a spare feedhorn from PacWireless
in case one dies on ya.

We do this on all our WISP main backhauls. They are Gabriel of
Radiowaves instead.

Well...not to often. I have changed maybe 8 in my whole life and I
touch alot more microwave stuff than most here. None have been

And its not how often that will kill you. Its that storm on Friday

I just recently learned about Gabriel's Dual Pol 2ft parabolic (28.5 dbi)
offering. Supports 5.2-5.8Ghz.

Its only about $360 from Tessco.

However, as far as Dual band antennas, they make em, but not sure whats best
to buy. We typically don't use them, because we use the different bands for
different purposes, and therefore often different antenna characteristics
are preferred for each of the bands in order to not unnecesarilly limit the
ability of the spectrum range..

RE: [WISPA] dual band

2005-12-28 Thread Paul Hendry
We use both the superpass dual-band/polarized sectors
(http://www.superpass.com/SPD-GSH2T-J12T.html) and the Radiowaves dual
polarized 5GHz dishes. The Superpass sectors give good 2.4 and 5.8 AP
coverage over an area with no interference between bands whilst saving on
tower rental. The dishes are good to provide redundancy for backhaul but
interference is to high to use both at the same time. I would really like to
see if some band pass filters would help with this however I only seem to be
able to find them for 2.4GHz. Anyone know where they sell em? Has anyone
used dual-polarized dishes with N-Streme2?

Cheers,

P.

RE: [WISPA] dual band

2005-12-28 Thread Paul Hendry
Has anyone used a dual polarized dish to provide 2 simultaneous 5GHz links?
If so, how and if by using band pass filters, where can you get them from?

Cheers,

P.,

Re: [WISPA] Dual Band Sectors

2009-11-04 Thread Rick Harnish
We used some a few years ago for a vWISP on his original tower install.
Over time, he moved to dedicated backhauls in place of the 5.8 portion of
the sectors. I can't remember how well they worked to tell the truth as I
was not intimately involved in any installs off of the 5.8 portion.

Sorry this isn't much help.

Re: [WISPA] Dual Band Sectors

2009-11-04 Thread Mike Goicoechea
We have tested different types and found with the dual pol Sectors that
Radiowaves makes an excellent antenna. They offer 2.4v and 5.8h or 2.4h and
5.8v. They offer 60 or 90 degree. We have used 3 90s for 360 coverage on a
tower with great results. If you need further information feel free to hit
me off list.

Any other suggestions for quality dual band sectors?

Re: [WISPA] Dual Band Sectors

2009-11-04 Thread Brad Belton
While we've never used this particular RadioWaves antenna I do know you get
what you pay for. I would imagine "street price" for this antenna would be
between $900 - $1000. Considering what some towers charge per antenna the
ROI for this antenna could be pretty quick!

Best,

Brad

Re: [WISPA] Dual-band Sector Antennas/Multiple Input Sector Antennas

2009-02-24 Thread Marlon K. Schafer
I think the whole idea behind N is antenna diversity Daniel.

Using less antennas means he'll get little or no benefit from the system.
Might as well just run with a standard b/g system.

I think antenna placement will also be critical for n. I could be totally
wrong here, but my guess is that there are specific distances between
antennas that are part of the magic of n.

What's he hoping to accomplish?

Better NLOS, better nLOS, better speed?

laters,
marlon

Re: [WISPA] Dual-band Sector Antennas/Multiple Input Sector Antennas

2009-02-24 Thread 3-dB Networks
Right... N relies on MIMO... so antenna diversity is important. In an
indoor application this AP would have six small Omni antennas on it... just
inches apart from each other. I don't think the exact placement of the
antennas is important, as long as the patterns overlap. I've never seen
anything specifying the distances of antennas... but if someone knows that
would be great.

Either way, a dual-band antenna would cut it from six sectors to three...
and not lose any of the benefits. Might not be cost effective, but I want
to explore that. I'd also hope that there would be an antenna out there
that already has the antenna diversity setup inside the antenna by having
three elements pointing the correct directions. I wouldn't think noise
would be that big of an issue at the antenna since they will all be
broadcasting on the same frequency anyways.

As for what he is trying to accomplish... I wish I knew. His application
does not require 802.11n speeds, it could require the MIMO near and non-los
properties... I think he wants 802.11n because it's the next thing. Just
like I don't think he should be using Cisco... but no IT guy has ever been
fired for deploying Cisco right :-)

I understand that Cisco is expensive, but it does work. I have clients
with Cisco Aironet 340's installed that are 7+ years old.
Is it the national pastime to beat on Cisco?

As for antennas, Superpass makes some that might work well for this project

If you really like the 340 cards I'll give you a great price on about

No reason to believe it wouldn't work.

FWIW I think that's a PacWireless antenna which seems to get low marks around
here.

Anyone already try something like a RB433AH with a XR5 and XR2 connected to
a single dual band sector something like this

http://www.l-com.com/item.aspx?id=22095

Any reason to believe the two radio cards would interfere with each other
for any reason?

Any other problems you can think of I might have with this setup?

Having this sort of setup (assuming is works good) would reduce my tower
signature by more than half. Thanks.
