RE: Issues with TCL Roku TVs

2017-08-22 Thread Johnson, Christopher
Hi Kevin,

Not using Cisco APs, but we’re running Aruba 6.5.3.1 (205H) APs and we actually
have seen a few of the TCL Roku Tvs and they are working. Assuming that’s the
same $138 one they’re selling at Wal-Mart at the end-caps/middle aisles.

- We have a “-“ in our SSID with a mix of capital-letters

- Data Rates

o Basic rates – 6

o Transmit (Supported) - 6, 9, 12, 18, 24, 36, 48, 54

I was trying to get a packet-capture of some of the management frames but I’m
relying on the students actually putting “TCL” in the device registration to
actually identify a TCL Roku client (only 3) – but we have about 18 in that OUI
range (although another one says Insignia) so hard to say.

At the appropriate discount for EDU, the AIR-PWRINJ6= is only slightly more
than the third-parties and fully supported by TAC.

Personally, if you have to power more than six in one location, invest the
money in a new switch with UPoE so you’re covered for the next 7-10+ years.

Has anyone on-list successfully used a 3rd party 802.3at injector to fully
power one or more 2802i APs?

I’m interested in single-port, multi-port midspan, and switches big and small
so long as it is non-Cisco.
The word from Cisco seems to be that only the AIR-PWRINJ-6 single-port injector
from Cisco is compatible, though I have heard of a “same part number”
small-business injector that costs a bit less as working as well.

So far I can find no evidence of a 3rd party injector working beyond providing
15.4 watts medium power, hence no radios up.

Manufacturer and part numbers are much appreciated.

2017-08-22 Thread Samuel Clements
Yeah, it's a straight up 'good' injector. We don't usually attach switches
to them - just laptops, but that should be functionally identical to using
a switch. :) We use them for site surveys when we need portable power for
the APs and the ethernet passthrough allows us to hook a laptop up to the
APs ethernet port for config/management.

RE: multicast enabled on your wireless network?

2017-08-22 Thread Osborne, Bruce W (Network Operations)
Tariq,

We have been running multicast on wireless for IPTV for several years on our
Aruba wireless infrastructure. Since you mentioned "flexconnect" that implies,
to me, a cisco wireless infrastructure so my experience may not apply to your
situation.

We helped them test their "Dynamic Multicast Optimization" from early alpha and
we initially deployed the beta to Production. It has been very good for our
user experience and we have not noticed appreciable loading. We will be moving
away from multicast because we will be switching to a vendor that is not using
multicast.

Hello everyone,

Just checking if you guys have multicast enabled on your wireless network and
if you have come across any performance issues arising after enabling it? Is
multicast widely used in your network?

I am working on a POC which has requirements that can be fulfilled by either
enabling multicast or converting few APs to flexconnect mode. I am more in
favour of later method but again want to know your views.
