Wireless Door lock systems
All, I was wondering what other Universities experience with wireless door locks? How have the door locks been working? Is there a lot of maintenance with your systems? For example battery life, wifi connection problems, broken locks. How many drops 802.11ac phase 2
All, I wanted to see how many people were planning on running 2 drops to 802.11ac phase 2 access points? Currently we are just doing a one for one swap when replacing an older a/b/g AP's with 802.11ac phase 1 AP's When you have new construction, do you plan on running 2 drops so when phase 2 come into play you will be all set for it? RE: Handheld scanners
Bruce, I know you folks are an Aruba shop. Who makes the ticket scanners you use and what model works the best? We have some very old ticket scanners that are still using 802.11b. We are looking to upgrade soon and would like to get some input from other schools on what they use. We use them to confirm tickets outside our theaters on campus. From my end I see them connected almost all day long but when they go to use them they have hiccups. The word I get is that they try and scan a ticket and if it doesn't work instantly they grab a spare one and keep going. I am going to stand with them one of these nights to see the actual process but haven't had the time lately so can't confirm how they are running them. We are building a new conservatory and I want to get the handheld piece figured out prior to deployment in that building. Config Cisco 5508's, 2600/3500/3600 ap's WPA2/AES enterprise (tried just tkip for a while and no dice) broadcasting I'm just curious as to what models of scanners everyone else uses and what issues/remedies they have come across. Does anyone else run the motorola MC55? It doesn't have to be on a Cisco infrastructure as alot of the settings from other vendors are comparable. I didn't want to type out the whole infrastructure, so if you have a question/idea please let me know. After at least of year of steadily increasing numbers, we are now seeing a roughly 40% increase since last December. At first I didn't believe what I was seeing and opened a case with the vendor to confirm reporting was accurate. Tied into this, we upgraded by a major version earlier this month and I thought this could be related. Apparently not the case, everything we've looked at tells us that the numbers are accurate. I'm still looking a stats, but haven't been able to come up with anything yet. Is anyone else seeing this magnitude of increase in devices over winter break ? All, I would agree that technical support from vendors of whom their products information is requested, but IMO that is not an open invitation for some other competing vendor to call or e-mail you and try to sell their products, especially if they get the information about your situation from a discussion forum like this one.
