Can you send a debug output that shows the
insert statement or an excerpt of the taf in a file and attach it.

I have the following problem, when I put

<@RANDOM LOW=lowest_possible_value
HIGH=highest_possible_value>

I get the error

Syntax error in insert into statement

Now this error happens when the insert
action in my taf has this in it

Column  Value Quote Value

true

When I take out this line in the insert
action and take it out of the taf html as well. I get no errors….so

Has to be the problem..anyone have a
workaround

Thanks

Hello

I have a table that I am going to
insert info into 4 of the 5 fields into the table.  In the 5th
field, I just want the application to automatically generate a number or a
number with some prefixes I choose, and insert that number into the 5th
field.

I seem to remember in the past using
a metatag to do this, but I can’t seem to find what I need.

Any ideas would be appreciate

Re: Witango-Talk: WiTango & Email

2004-11-01 Thread Rick Sanders
That's how it was set up. Everyone has to send authentication to send out
email. Or they're denied.

By the way, if your mail server forces authentication for everybody that
tires to send mail through it, a solution that I've used in the past has
been to is an intermediary mail server (typically on the same machine)
that accepts connection from only localhost, that is setup to relay all
it's mail to the real mail server, and that intermediate mail server has
the authentication information to make the connection to the "real" mail
server.
If the real mail server and the web server are already on the same
machine perhaps you could accomplish this by running another smtp server
for just witango to talk to on a different port (8025).
I had to do something very similar to this when we installed an Intranet
appliation for a client at their location running on witango, and the
mail actions needed to send mail though the company mail server (which
is still hosted by us) We weren't about to trust any machines outside of
our own subnet, so instead we configured the witango box to SMTP through
itself, and that IIS SMTP server was setup to send all it's mail through
our server by authenticating.

Hold on. Something’s amiss in your mail server setup.
IF you have relay enabled from 127.0.0.1 AND you have a mail
server on the same machine AND you have authentication turned on
for outside IP addresses, the mail server should still be
requiring authentication from outside people trying to use you as
an open relay.
I have that setup (webstar) and can see the steady stream of
attempted relays being blocked.
You can turn authentication off for your internal and trusted
networks, including 127.0.0.1 and the IP address of your witango
machine
Authentication required for everyone else
Use your firewall/router not not let in IP spoofers using 127. Or
your server’s IP address
Then, when the spammer is sending messages trying to exploit the
open relay, the mail server will reject because the IP address is
the originating machine or server, not your own. If they are
trying to spoof your Ip address, the mail won’t get in.
Check your detailed smtp log and you’ll see where your hole is.

Hey John,
Yep, that's what seems to be happening.
However, after checking the logs, the reason why other users at the same
domain were getting email from [EMAIL PROTECTED] was because relay is on for
mail sent within the same domain since both the sender and receiver are
local.

So, unauthorized email isn't getting out at least! After I re-configured the
SMTP.

If the mail is going to an account on the local machine, then the
spammers aren't relaying at all... They are simply using a generic
account name at the local domain as the return address.
The definition of mail relaying means that the mail would be relayed to

Typically relay restrictions are not enforced when the recepient is a

  Hi Roland,

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, it's a
  little more complicated than that.

The people relaying off the server, are using
the email address of the domain hosted on the server.

So, the spammers are using [EMAIL PROTECTED], and it's going through
without authentication because 127.0.0.1 is in the privileged IP range.

Of course, turning off the 127.0.0.1 stops
un-authorized relaying, but also stops the Tango server from sending auto
email. Unless the Tango server can send a username & password for
  authentication.

Re: Witango-Talk: Distance Calculations - Sort on..., search on...

2004-11-01 Thread Alan Wolfe
heres an optomization if you use the other distance formula:

distance = squareroot((x2-x1)^2 + (y2-y1)^2)

the square root takes a long time to compute, but the other math doesnt take
too long. You might thing about squaring both sides and getting..

distance^2 = (x2-x1)^2 + (y2-y1)^2

that should be faster to calculate on the fly than trig and how you would
use it would be if you wanted a list of all locations where the distance was
less than 21, since both sides are squared you would check to see where the
distance was less than 441 (21^2).

When you get your results and want to display actual distances you could
just square root them at that time

Re: Witango-Talk: Distance Calculations - Sort on..., search on...

2004-11-01 Thread John McGowan
Not sure if this is what you're looking for, because I haven't had time
to read the entire thread.. But when we had to do a Geo search in a
database of lat and long s... what we did was the following.

1. Use a simplified "Box Search" to start out. Instead of doing a
radius search, (with the trig functions) we did a quick db search to
get the matching records that would be inside of a BOX as opposed to a
circle. We used whatever the basic rule about how many degrees in a
mile etc, with some linear fudging to compensate for the shrinking
dimensions in the latitude axis. as you go away from the equator.

2. Then since we wanted to know the exact distance for each record we
calculated the distance in a loop. (since we're only calculating it for
records that are close, we're not wasting that much time)

This was quite a while ago though so I may be remembering things
incorrectly.

Hey Daniel!
What database are you using? I know MySQL can do the trigonometric
functions in a select statement and you could order your result from
the database...
Doing trig functions is pretty gross efficiency wise. You might want
to store some of the functions that aren't going to change in your
location table. ie. Have columns for:
SIN(<@COLUMN 'Adressen.Geo_Breite'>)
COS(<@COLUMN 'Adressen.Geo_Breite'>)
in the same table that Adressen.Geo_Breite is stored in. As well,
pre-calculate:
COS(@@User$Breite_1) and
SIN(@@User$Breite_1) to avoid doing this calculation 2500 times.

You might want to play with that formula and optimize it. I'm not
super hot with my trig identites, but I'm sure you could put it into a
form that allows you to store as much information in the database as
possible. Then you would only have to do a couple of calculations in
your actual select statement.
Interesting problem...let us know what route you eventually take.
Cheers,
Jonah Simpson

The problem what I have is:

need to
much RAM [more as 2500 records, nearly 50x on one time])

2) To do a search in a specified area like "show me all points near x

I like to store is the formula-text:

Second problem: I can't do a sort on the stored formula (Sort command:

Jonah,
to avoid a lot of calculations: I have allready short the formula. The
enclosed formula was only to show how it works finally.
Also I store allready the result for "SIN(<@COLUMN 'Adressen.Geo_Breite'>) /
COS(<@COLUMN 'Adressen.Geo_Breite'>)" in the database :-))

But this don't help me to make the sort or to make a search in a radius :-((

Do the calculation inside the database will be

Calculations - Sort on..., search on...

I guess without more information here's the best
  solution that i see...

depending on number of users you have and number
of locations they are looking at, it might be best to store the distances to
each location the user cares about in the database (calc'ing them at some
point) and then just sort that way.  calculating distance for alot of
locations at one time is going to be alot of CPU and will take a long time no
matter how you calc them (i am a game programmer on the side and deal w/ these
kinds of problems all the time, if at all possible, pre-calculating distance
and storing it is the way to go in alot of situations).  If the user is
in a position to where they would be able to "relocate" themselves, if
feasible, you could just recalculate the distances at the time they
  locate.

I think by far the best solution would be to
store the data in the database if possible.

If not possible, if you have few enough
locations, you could calculate distances on the fly, but if possible, having
the database calculate the distance instead of witango since most databases
seem to be better at doing massive amounts of math at a time then witango
  is.

another thing you could do is if your database
supported views you could create a view where one of the columns on the view
is the distance of the location, and then you could select data from the view
  and do sorts etc.

with more information, we could probably give
better help but dont know if you would be giving away "proprietary secrets" or
  not to do so :P

Ps.: I know the exactly coordinates of the User, so
the User$Var's are OK.

Also I like to present the distance, sorted from the short to the longest
distance,
and to give the customer a chance to make a search like: "Show me all
locations in a 50km radius from my point."

Normally, this is no problem if you have one fixed point from the start,
but the start is not fix. Let say, one customer is located at "Aacher Bach"
(like Chicago) and a other is from Aa-Bach (Austin)...

Witango-Talk: Source control

2004-11-01 Thread Dan Stein
I have a very old version of source Safe 5.0 which I have never been able to
get to work right so I can work from different machines.

Is there an open source or another alternative that works with witango.

I like the way source safe works but with history and rollback and it is
easy to set up but not easy or at least easy for me to get working on my
network.

Make sure the client.ini file on the web server is configured to reach
the IP/Port of the Witango server, and the Witango.ini file is
configured to listen to same IP/Port and that the valid hosts is set to
the webserver.

If you are all on the same machine, the IP should be 127.0.0.1

The clients.ini file should have a line for the dll/cgi/plugin like:

WITANGO_SERVER=127.0.0.1,18100

Re: Witango-Talk: Help with displaying results?

2004-11-01 Thread Dan Stein
Just to be clear. If I take this text and paste it into Dreamweaver it
displays fine.

So I just need the tag or whatever that will make this display as HTML.

Re: Witango-Talk: REPLACE

2004-11-01 Thread Anthony M. Humphreys
JavaScript is case sensitive.
And you can run it on the server side inside <@SCRIPT>

You could use the String.replace() method and the RegExp object.

Something like:

myString.replace(/ö/g, 'a');myString.replace(/ä/g,
'a');myString.replace(/å/g, 'a');

And the same again for uppercase:

myString.replace(/Ö/g, 'O');myString.replace(/Ä/g,
'A');myString.replace(/Å/g, 'A');

Is that what you're after?

Witango-Talk: Help with displaying results?

2004-11-01 Thread Dan Stein
I am puling this text from a FMP 7 database. It is using a getassCSS
function to take formatted text and translate it to a style sheet.

What do I need to do in the results page to get it to display as text
formatted rather then the code.

This is what is in the column and display when I call the variable
request$HTML

This is styled text
This is
styled
 text

This is styled
