Yes there is another release of the 5.5 server coming before
Christmas. It is a maintenance release and will include a version
for OS X on Intel Macs. We had a few internal issues with the
build that we had to rectify before we released it.

The rewritten Dev Studio v6 is currently in private testing and we
are making good progress on the v6 server which will be released in
Q2 2007.

Right I missed that saw server and read Studio. Phil can we assume that this

We are just tidying up some show stopping issues we have found
during the private beta of a 5.75 release. Once they are fixed a
public beta will get underway.

This has been a complete rewrite and I am sure that none of you
would like the new dev studio to corrupt your files in any way.
We are just being over cautious with this beta as we have seen
betas used in production environments in the past. As soon as we
have all the private beta testers ready to move from the old 5.5
version for the new version the public beta will start.

I had sent a message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] a month or more ago,
asking about purchasing a new Dev Studio. I am currently
licensed for 5.0 but with purchasing a new Mac I can't install
it due to changes in the Apple Installer. It was suggested that
I wait until 6 rather than paying the upgrade cost twice but I'm
getting a little tired of waiting.

I did not receive any response from Witango.

Has anyone heard of any news on this?

Re: Witango-Talk: Studio Beta?

2006-12-12 Thread Stephen Smith
Having been the 'list-Mom' for Tango-Talk myself for many years, I
can understand that it can be difficult to respond to every message.

However when the user community asks for some information about
upcoming releases, and the message is ignored for 2 weeks, it doesn't
really send out a comforting message.

I've got some business decisions to make, and I would like to make
them rationally. Without any response, can I make the assumption that
there is no release in the works? Is 5.5 the last release we are
going to see?

I hope someone at Witango is reading the list and can provide some
kind of answer.

Thank you,

Steve Smith

RE: Witango-Talk: Studio Beta?

2006-11-30 Thread Robert Shubert
You can request to [EMAIL PROTECTED] to get the most current beta release.
While not an ideal solution either - and you certainly need to understand
what you are getting into and need to know how to upgrade your service
without the help of an installer or the WT staff - but it might get you what
you need. No promises.

I do understand what everyone is saying and I do hope that they officially
release the next version soon. My understanding is that just a few small
issues are holding up the release but I do not know if they are WT
controlled issues or not.

Triple ditto from me, and we only have some apps working by virtue of
removing some of their functionality. Some may recall I ran into a problem
where users clicking a link that accessed a specific set of actions in a taf
caused Witango to crash, after I had recently updated my OS X server. I
wrote to customer support for help, and they said, on October 11th (and I
quote):

We are prepping the release of a new release of 5.5. It is about a week
from release. We have performed substantial internal and private testing of
the new version. Once it is available we will announce it to the list.

I recently followed up on that response on Nov. 7th (wondering if there was
some delay in the release) and got NO reply whatsoever. My solution has been
to remove that link and work around the missing functionality in other (more
time and paper consuming) ways. Not ideal, for sure.

We've been talking about leaving Witango for a couple of years, and now
we've reached the point that it is actually on our list of major projects to
complete during next year... going to re-write our apps in PHP and
MySQL...but in the meantime, a new release that works better would be great.

able to see a new release?

Steve,
The version 6 dev studio will be released with the version 6 server
which is still several months away.

We are just tidying up some show stopping issues we have found
during the private beta of a 5.75 release. Once they are fixed a
public beta will get underway.

This has been a complete rewrite and I am sure that none of you
would like the new dev studio to corrupt your files in any way. We
are just being over cautious with this beta as we have seen betas
used in production environments in the past. As soon as we have
all the private beta testers ready to move from the old 5.5 version
for the new version the public beta will start.

I had sent a message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] a month or more ago,
asking about purchasing a new Dev Studio. I am currently licensed
for 5.0 but with purchasing a new Mac I can't install it due to
changes in the Apple Installer. It was suggested that I wait until
6 rather than paying the upgrade cost twice but I'm getting a
little tired of waiting.

I did not receive any response from Witango.

Has anyone heard of any news on this?
