Re: [WiX-users] How to add newline in Condition message

2007-10-18 Thread Nitin Chaudhari
I got the answer you have to write it like this

Condition Message=You do not have#xD;#xA;Admin Rights

#xD;#xA; represents CRLF

Thanks,
Nitin

Hi

WiX does not directly support this.

But you can create the Public Property from Custom Action (e.g.
CRLF) and this property will contain the new line sequence \r\n.
After that you can write your message in the following way:

Condition Message=Not Admin [CRLF] don't have 2.0(NOT
Priviledged) AND MsiNetAssemblySupport lt;= 2.0.50727/Condition

BTW: It would be nice if WiX could generate such PublicProperty
during creation of MSI package...

Stefan

[WiX-users] Bug in WiX2 2.0.5805.0 - CompanionFile attribute

2007-10-18 Thread Stefan Pavlik
Hi
 I think I have found a bug in WiX2 (2.0.5805.0) (not sure if it is
also in Wix3 - not using it)

Consider this code:

Component Id=Component1 Guid=GUID DiskId=1
  File Id=File1 Name=File1.exe Vital=yes KeyPath=yes
Checksum=yes /
  File Id=File2 Name=File2.dll Vital=yes Checksum=yes
CompanionFile=File1/
/Component

Checking the MSI file with ORCA the FileTable:
The row that belongs to file File2 will contain the real version of
the file (in Column Version) instead of text: File1

The problem appears only if the file is binary. If the file File2 is
text file the Version column is filled correctly.

regards

Pls. let me know if I should open a bug...

Stefan

[WiX-users] Major upgrade problem

2007-10-18 Thread daniel . gibbons
Hi,

I'm using v2.0.5206.0 and currently trying to perform a major upgrade. I've
set the main guids and version number to be unique and I'm using:

  UpgradeVersion Property=PATCHFOUND Minimum=4.0.0.0 /

However when the product is installed and I run a new version it detects the
previous version, removes the old product and installs the new but I receive
the following error:

Any ideas what I might be doing wrong?

[WiX-users] Registering 64-bit Assembly

2007-10-18 Thread peteyates
Hi,

I am looking for some help on registering an assembly with my WIX MSI
install (WIX2).

I understand that it is advisable not to use a Custom Action to call
regasm at install time to register it, as all advice seems to be to
import the registry entries into the wix script and deliver them from
there.

I have been using a WIX fragment generated by Tallow to do just this
with no problem.

I am currently working on some 64-bit installs and have been trying to
produce a WIX fragment by using regasm and tallow.

when I attempt to convert a registry file produced by regasm to a WIX
Fragment by using the tallow -reg option I am finding that although I
produce a Fragment that looks fine, it will causes errors with compiling
the fragment in Light.

The problem is, after I have added a Directory Ref and Component Tag I
get the following error:-

fatal error LGHT0003: primary key 'regF857F4F67D6475833875D0C4140FEA
99' in column 'Registry' are duplicated in table 'Registry'

There seems to be some kind of duplication going on.

Can anyone think why this might be?

I have also been trying to use heat to generate a fragment, but when i
try to compile the MSI I get an error from Candle as follows:

error CNDL0005 : The Component element contains an unexpected child
element 'RegistryValue'.

The output does not contain a parent Registry element.

I am sure I am missing something simple, but if anyone can advise how I
can register a 64-bit assembly in WIX 2 I would be very grateful.

Re: [WiX-users] WiX v3 Sql Extension not executing SqlScript

2007-10-18 Thread Chad Petersen
You might try it to start with in a bit simpler format. Just have the

ExecuteOnInstall=yes

And remove the

ContinueOnError=no RollbackOnUninstall=yes

If it works then add back in one of those two at a time. You might find
the ContinueOnError=no is causing a problem. They are said to be
OR'ing the values to build up the Attributes, but I feels like they AND
because for me anything set to no makes it not work.

Subject: [WiX-users] WiX v3 Sql Extension not executing SqlScript

Hi,

Is this still an issue with the version 3.0.2925.0?

I have a WiX v3 installation which uses the SqlDatabase to create a
database. This works great. However, as soon as I add a child
SqlScript and a corresponding Binary my installation just hangs until I
kill the process and never executes the sql in the referenced file. I
put a trace on SQL Server and I don't even see the statements that were
previously getting executed successfully by the SqlDatabase node before
adding that SqlScript.

I tried executing the first statement in my (unfortunately) long sql
script through the SqlString element, and it was successful, but I was
hoping to avoid the extra work involved in translating all those
statements in my scripts into strings.

I saw a couple posts regarding similar, but not the same problems. Is
there something obvious I might be doing wrong, or do I just need to
steer clear of the SqlScript for now?

I got the answer you have to write it like this

Condition Message=You do not have#xD;#xA;Admin Rights

#xD;#xA; represents CRLF

Thanks,

Stefan

Re: [WiX-users] Custom EULA

2007-10-18 Thread Hüser , Martin
To define the EULA add this to your wxs file:

WixVariable Id=WixUILicenseRtf Value=License.rtf /

(For details have a look at the Wix.chm, chapter Using the WixUI dialog
library)

I'm currently using Wix 3.0.3328.0

You can't use an rtf file created by MS Word.
Use WordPad instead to create your own eula in rtf format.

[WiX-users] How to run wsf/vbscript files as Custom actions?

2007-10-18 Thread Chandra mohan
Hi All,

I am able to set all the IIS Settings via the IISExtension for Wix 3.0. Now, I
need to set a few more settings which the extension doesn’t provide and hence
would like to invoke a WSF file called iis.wsf which sets additional settings
of the website. When I include the file as a Binary and invoke it in a custom
action, I get the below error:

MSI (s) (14:DC) [19:00:54:212]: Product: MS.ESPS.WebApps.Marketplace -- Error
1721. There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program
required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support
personnel or package vendor. Action: UpdateIISSettings, location:
C:\winnt\Installer\MSI33AB.tmp, command: cmohan-dev
C:\Depots\ESPS\mls\private\Deployment\iis\EdComWeb-dev.xml

CustomAction
Id='UpdateIISSettings'
BinaryKey=d.wsf'
Execute='deferred'
ExeCommand='param1 ComWeb-dev.xml'
Return='check'/

The binary files are defined as :

!-- xml2iis files --
Binary Id=setaccess.vbs
SourceFile=$(var.IIS_DIR)\setaccess.vbs /
Binary Id=a.vbs SourceFile=$(var.IIS_DIR)\a.vbs /
Binary Id=b.vbs SourceFile=$(var.IIS_DIR)\b.vbs /
Binary Id=v.vbs SourceFile=$(var.IIS_DIR)\c.vbs /
Binary Id=d.wsf SourceFile=$(var.IIS_DIR)\d.wsf /

In the similar lines, when I include a VBscript file, say updateConfig.vbs, and
include it in a customAction, it gives the same error. If I change the VBScript
to call a function then the sample works, but I would like to run the script as
if its run from command prompt.

Any help on how to invoke the wsf and vbscript files would be highly helpful.

Thanks,

A custom action can either be a DLL with an exported entry point,
or it can be vbscript/jscript.

It can't be a .wsf file.

Small addition. You also might want to add a launch condition to check
if extra property is included in the command line:

Condition Message=FILENAME variable must be set in the command line
  Installed OR FILENAME

[WiX-users] Longhorn IIS failure (with iis 6 compatability turned on) during install

2007-10-18 Thread Dana Gutride
When I install on Longhorn, I receive an error message (Failed to read
IIsWebs table (-2147024891 ) and the install stops. I've run this same
MSI on Vista with no problems. Has anybody had any success using the IIS
custom actions within WiX 2.0 on Longhorn? I do realize Windows Server
2008 is still at Release Candidate 0 and the final release won't be out
until next February.

I have installed all of the IIS legacy components on Longhorn and am not
having any success. This behaviour can be duplicated with the latest
version of WiX and the IIS example in the tutorial (
http://www.tramontana.co.hu/wix/).

Thanks,
Dana

Re: [WiX-users] How to run wsf/vbscript files as Custom actions?

2007-10-18 Thread Wilson, Phil
You've probably got an error in a script. You generally cannot run
scripts as if you were running them from the command prompt because the
command line run uses the Windows Script Host engine and MSI does not.
A typical error in a custom action is to call Wscript.Echo or
WScript.CreateObject or other WScript methods.

[WiX-users] Setting webdir properties for directory under virtual directory...

2007-10-18 Thread Ravikumar Gopinath

I need to set content expiration property ( Cache-Control: max-age=31536000 )
on a directory, which is under a virtual directory. I am trying to set it using
the WebDirProperties element. My code is given below:

iis:WebDirProperties Id=CacheForOneYear CacheControlMaxAge=31536000/

I am accessing this property in the following manner:

iis:WebDir Id=WebsiteImagesWebDir WebSite=MyWebSite
DirProperties=CacheForOneYear Path=WebsiteImages /

WebSiteImages is the ID of a directory element whose property I am trying to
set.

However, this property is not getting set. Am I doing something wrong here? I
am not sure whether setting just the WebSite property will work as my directory
is under a virtual directory of this website. How can I get this to work?

  MSI already supports this exactly as you describe. Your command line
  is correct. Once you invoke the install this way, the property will
  be set to the value given on the command line. Only public
  properties (all uppercase names) can be set from the command line.

Re: [WiX-users] WiX v3 Sql Extension not executing SqlScript

2007-10-18 Thread Amy Rosewater
I tried removing the additional attributes, and still the same result.
Nothing gets executed against the database when a SqlScript node is
present (even if it does not appear under the SqlDatabase node) except a
preliminary check to see if a database with my name exists.

You might try it to start with in a bit simpler format. Just have the

ExecuteOnInstall=yes

And remove the

ContinueOnError=no RollbackOnUninstall=yes

To define the EULA add this to your wxs file:

WixVariable Id=WixUILicenseRtf Value=License.rtf /

(For details have a look at the Wix.chm, chapter Using the WixUI dialog
library)

I'm currently using Wix 3.0.3328.0

I created it using only WordPad.
I am using Wix 3.0.2925

Does anybody have a working sample of including a custom EULA?

Thanks!

You can't use an rtf file created by MS Word.
Use WordPad instead to create your own eula in rtf format.

Tallow probably isn't creating valid .wxs output from regasm's output - run
it directly against your assembly with the -c option.
