[WiX-users] Registering 64-bit Assembly
Hi, I am looking for some help on registering an assembly with my WIX MSI install (WIX2). I understand that it is advisable not to use a Custom Action to call regasm at install time to register it, as all advice seems to be to import the registry entries into the wix script and deliver them from there. I have been using a WIX fragment generated by Tallow to do just this with no problem. I am currently working on some 64-bit installs and have been trying to produce a WIX fragment by using regasm and tallow. when I attempt to convert a registry file produced by regasm to a WIX Fragment by using the tallow -reg option I am finding that although I produce a Fragment that looks fine, it will causes errors with compiling the fragment in Light. The problem is, after I have added a Directory Ref and Component Tag I get the following error:- fatal error LGHT0003: primary key 'regF857F4F67D6475833875D0C4140FEA 99' in column 'Registry' are duplicated in table 'Registry' There seems to be some kind of duplication going on. Can anyone think why this might be? I have also been trying to use heat to generate a fragment, but when i try to compile the MSI I get an error from Candle as follows: error CNDL0005 : The Component element contains an unexpected child element 'RegistryValue'. The output does not contain a parent Registry element. I am sure I am missing something simple, but if anyone can advise how I can register a 64-bit assembly in WIX 2 I would be very grateful. Re: [WiX-users] WiX v3 Sql Extension not executing SqlScript
You might try it to start with in a bit simpler format. Just have the ExecuteOnInstall=yes And remove the ContinueOnError=no RollbackOnUninstall=yes If it works then add back in one of those two at a time. You might find the ContinueOnError=no is causing a problem. They are said to be OR'ing the values to build up the Attributes, but I feels like they AND because for me anything set to no makes it not work. [WiX-users] How to run wsf/vbscript files as Custom actions?
Hi All, I am able to set all the IIS Settings via the IISExtension for Wix 3.0. Now, I need to set a few more settings which the extension doesn’t provide and hence would like to invoke a WSF file called iis.wsf which sets additional settings of the website. When I include the file as a Binary and invoke it in a custom action, I get the below error: MSI (s) (14:DC) [19:00:54:212]: Product: MS.ESPS.WebApps.Marketplace -- Error 1721. There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor. If I change the VBScript to call a function then the sample works, but I would like to run the script as if its run from command prompt. Any help on how to invoke the wsf and vbscript files would be highly helpful. Re: [WiX-users] How to run wsf/vbscript files as Custom actions?
A custom action can either be a DLL with an exported entry point, or it can be vbscript/jscript. It can't be a .wsf file. -- The Direct3D Graphics Pipeline -- DirectX 9 draft available for download http://www.xmission.com/~legalize/book/download/index.html Legalize Adulthood! http://blogs.xmission.com/legalize/ - This SF.net email is sponsored by: Splunk Inc. [WiX-users] Longhorn IIS failure (with iis 6 compatability turned on) during install
When I install on Longhorn, I receive an error message (Failed to read IIsWebs table (-2147024891 ) and the install stops. I've run this same MSI on Vista with no problems. Has anybody had any success using the IIS custom actions within WiX 2.0 on Longhorn? I do realize Windows Server 2008 is still at Release Candidate 0 and the final release won't be out until next February. I have installed all of the IIS legacy components on Longhorn and am not having any success. This behaviour can be duplicated with the latest version of WiX and the IIS example in the tutorial ( http://www.tramontana.co.hu/wix/). Thanks, Dana - This SF.net email is sponsored by: Splunk Inc. Re: [WiX-users] How to run wsf/vbscript files as Custom actions?
You've probably got an error in a script. You generally cannot run scripts as if you were running them from the command prompt because the command line run uses the Windows Script Host engine and MSI does not. A typical error in a custom action is to call Wscript.Echo or WScript.CreateObject or other WScript methods.
