[WiX-users] [WIX] How to installing same MSI file twice

2013-09-10 Thread dileep s
Hi All,

I have created MSI using WIX for installing printer driver.

When I installed MSI first time, it was installed the printer driver
correctly.

When I want to install the other printer driver using same MSI file, it
shows Maintenance mode UI.

How to show the Installation UI dialogs instead of Maintenance mode UI,
when second time MSI is clicked?

Thanks in advance...

Regards,
Dileep

You don't.

You have to change the maintenance mode UI to be what you want.

Re: [WiX-users] BAFunction.DLL access to m_pEngineState m_command.wzCommandLine

2013-09-10 Thread Phill Hogland
I will plan to add the Feature request. The wix.codeplex.com 'bug' link is
not responding so I will check back again later to do that. In the mean
time I plan to have the 'parent' process set a registry key and then read
that in the BAFunction.DLL. I really appreciate the BAFunction.DLL as I
have been able to use it to detect configuration requirements and then post
localized messages that are more specific than 'The specified program
requires a newer version of Windows.'

Another idea that I had, which I have not worked on yet, is to detect the
command line input and then try to change whether the BA is running in
silent mode or not, in either OnStartup or OnDetect. There are some
situations where it would be good to run in silent mode even if the calling
process did not signal silent mode.

the BAFunction.dll also provides a good way to attach a debugger and step
into the engine code and generally learn a lot about the toolset.

Windows Installer is quite limited and refreshing/repopulating controls is one
of those that all to often doesn't work the way we want.

Usually the way this is implemented is to have two paired boxes, where the
value(s) in the first box are used in a custom action to populate the second
box's content when the user clicks Next.

 Hello Everyone,

I am trying to create a dialog box that has two combo boxes and the list
items of the second combo box depends on the value of the first one. In other
words, if the user changes the selected item in the first combo box, the list
items in the second combo box are updated accordingly. Below is the code of
the first combo box and the custom action RefreshModelList is intended to
update the second combo box. At runtime, the custom action seems to executed
multiple times. Is there any way to execute the custom action only once and
after the first combo box selection? If this is not a correct way to
implement this, could you please point me in the right direction? Your help
 will be greatly appreciated.

 Thanks a lot,

[WiX-users] Installation Failure

2013-09-10 Thread Marc Beaudry
Hello All,

I can't figure this one out... I need guidance

I have several systems with Wix 3.7 installed, but one system, only one
system won't let me install Wix 3.7

Here is the error from the log.

It seems the 'http://wixtoolset.org; website is no longer in service or is
down. The end result is the installer cannot download the required files to
install the package correctly.

I tried downloading a package from
http://wix.codeplex.com/releases/view/99514; and I get the same result.

I also looked for ProjectAggregator2.msi on a system that the installation
previously worked without success.

Any ideas?

Let me know,
Thanks
Marc

[WiX-users] Service Install Password not sent correctly to Windows Service

2013-09-10 Thread Swaroop Kare
Hi,

I am trying to install a service as below

ComponentGroup Id=TASKSERVICE Directory=TASKS

Component Id=TaskMgr
Guid={C66AA6D7-774C-4E4F-A2D1-611B45E540D2} Permanent=no

Description=$(var.TaskServiceDescription)  Account=domain\user
Password=abcd ErrorControl=ignore  Interactive=no /

DelayedAutoStart=no OnInstall=yes ServiceName= Task Service
ServiceSid=unrestricted/

ServiceControl Id=TaskService
Stop=both  Remove=uninstallName=Task ServiceWait=yes /

/Component

/ComponentGroup

After the installation is complete when I go to services and try to
start the services, I get the error Error 1069: The service did not
start due to a logon failure. And when I only re-enter the same
password (as sent in wix) and apply I get an acknowledgement message
The account domain\user has been granted the Log on as a service
right. And then if I try to start the service, it gets started.

I have checked the msi and the password that is present in the
serviceInstall table is correct and I think that the password sent to
windows service during install is incorrect. I am using Wix 3.7 and
doing an msi build in 64 bit machine.

Thanks

Use the User Element from the Util Extension to grant the user LogonAsService

section would look something like this:

util:User Id=ServiceUser Name=[SERVICE_USERNAME]

That's because http://wixtoolset.org suffered catastrophic hardware
failure. It's taking them days to try to recover all the data. You can find
ProjectAggregator2.msi in the repository at: src\Votive\SDK\Redist and put
it next to the wix37.exe. That is what /layout would do... if the website
would respond.

Re: [WiX-users] ExitCode element

2013-09-10 Thread Rob Mensching
By default exit codes as returned by MSI are respected since they most
common.

On Tue, Sep 10, 2013 at 11:31 AM, keith.doug...@statcan.gc.ca wrote:

Hi everyone, I did get WiX 3.7 installed correctly once that little other

Now I have a question about the ExitCode element. The documentation says
 about its Value attribute:

Exit code returned from executable package. If no value is provided it
means all values not explicitly set default to this behavior.

How does ExePackage behave if there are *no* ExitCode elements provided?
There are no Behaviours at that point at all. Are all exit codes treated as
 success?

(Background) I am working on supporting bootstrapped installers with my
front end and want to know what I should let users pick for ExePackages.
Right now (in my development phase) I require them to pick a success code
and if they want a code for scheduledReboot and forceReboot (both
optional). Should I be requiring one for error as well, or should I just
write out the success and the other two (if necessary) and allow all other
 codes to be error?

Also, if a *range* or in general more than one code falls into one of the
four categories, do I use ExitCode element for each value? That would get
pretty odd (though I can do it, since I am front-ending anyway) if one had
to have (say) more than a few for a given category.

Re: [WiX-users] Service Install Password not sent correctly to Windows Service

2013-09-10 Thread Phill Hogland
The issue is really a separate issue from Installing the Service. Before an
account is specified for a Windows Service to use, the Local Security
Policy\Local Policies\User Rights Assignment, for that account, needs to
allow the 'Logon as Service' permission (or if the service is designed to do
a logon for user impersonation the account may need to have 'Logon as Batch'
enabled).

Look at the User/@LogonAsService or at this blog:

Re: [WiX-users] [WIX] How to installing same MSI file twice

2013-09-10 Thread Phil Wilson
You can't install the same MSI twice, but it looks like you need your MSI
organized into two features, one for each driver. At install time the user
can chose to install one or both drivers. When they go into maintenance
mode (by running the same MSI or from Programs/Features) it will show the
installed features and allow the user to add the other feature. So yes, you
need to change maintenance node to offer feature dialogs, and that will
need two features in your MSI as described.

Any ideas?

Let me know,
Thanks
Marc

The wix37.exe is essentially self-contained (except for ProjectAggregator2.msi
which is only needed for VS2005). It doesn't use the wix37-binaries.zip. What
exactly is the issue you are having?

[WiX-users] ExitCode element

2013-09-10 Thread Keith.Douglas
Hi everyone, I did get WiX 3.7 installed correctly once that little other MSI
was around. Thanks!

Now I have a question about the ExitCode element. The documentation says about
its Value attribute:

Exit code returned from executable package. If no value is provided it means
all values not explicitly set default to this behavior.

How does ExePackage behave if there are *no* ExitCode elements provided? There
are no Behaviours at that point at all. Are all exit codes treated as success?

(Background) I am working on supporting bootstrapped installers with my front
end and want to know what I should let users pick for ExePackages.
Right now (in my development phase) I require them to pick a success code and
if they want a code for scheduledReboot and forceReboot (both optional). Should
I be requiring one for error as well, or should I just write out the success
and the other two (if necessary) and allow all other codes to be error?

Also, if a *range* or in general more than one code falls into one of the four
categories, do I use ExitCode element for each value? That would get pretty odd
(though I can do it, since I am front-ending anyway) if one had to have (say)
more than a few for a given category.

That's because http://wixtoolset.org suffered catastrophic hardware failure.
It's taking them days to try to recover all the data. You can find
ProjectAggregator2.msi in the repository at: src\Votive\SDK\Redist and put it
next to the wix37.exe. That is what /layout would do... if the website would
respond.

Re: [WiX-users] Service Install Password not sent correctly to Windows Service

2013-09-10 Thread Phil Wilson
When you do that through the UI Windows will add the log on as a service
right to the account. It will not do that during the MSI install. You'll
need to make sure that account has the right before the install.

I have checked the msi and the password that is present in the
