Hi Dave, I have done this with a different Approach. I have used an Msi Product Check to Check for existing redist Packages. To make sure the 64Bit Versions are not installed set the 64Bit flag within burn. I search for product ids with Microsofts Old Manifest bootstrap Editor. Don't know if there is a better Way. In conclusion there is no Need to Access These directorys Directly. [WiX-users] Strange Beahaviour while installing previous Version
Hi, currently I'm updating all of our Visual Studio 2010 projects and choosed Wix to support Visual Studio 2012. Now all installers are running with Wix and are doing their job fine in Testing environment. Our AQ Department asked me to implement Updates as well. One of our custom Installer has got an CustomAction during Uninstall. When I try to Update this installer the Custom Action is called, but it fails. The CustomAction.dll could not be found. While searching within the Installation.log I've found an entry which trys to find the CustimAction.dll of the previous Installer at the default TragetDir of new one. How can I fix this ? It was a c# Custom Action. This Custom Action is Not deployed within the new wix installer because it is Not needed any more. The old installer was an Visual Studio Installation Project. The Old Version Number was 5.015.004 with an Different guid. So the wix installer is Doing a Major Upgrade. During the installation of the new Version the uninstallation of the Old Version is scheduled. During the uninstallation an error occured. The error Message is the missing CustomAction.dll because the dll is searched within the wrong path. The new wix installer does Not Need this CustomAction.dll so it is Not Part of new Version. If the Dll is called InstallUtilLib.dll than that's the Visual Studio Dll. I was pointing out that managed code custom actions in VS 2010 are shimmed with a VS C++ Dll, but it's not clear if you were previously using WiX or VS setup projects to build your MSI files, because otherwise the references to VS 2010 and 2012 aren't really relevant. So you've got an error during an upgrade (which includes an uninstall of the older product) and you have a custom action that can't find a Dll. Hi, are you quite shure that the AddPrinter Method work in this case. I've checked the available Printers on a clean Windows 7 machine. The Printer driver is not there and can't be downloaded at HP. You have to install the Printer using the Windows Automatic Update. Hi, I've downloaded the driver package via Windows Update. So I've got the needed files to install the printer using DIFxApp. In my Inf File are many different printer models listed. How do I select the correct one ? I've found (Difxapp Extension) in Wix Documentations, but how do I use it to install my specific printer driver within the inf File. target machine in a admin CMD box prior to integrating into a msi.

[WiX-users] Create Subfolder for each Element in Bootstrapper Chain
Hi, we are currently switching from Visual Studio 2010 to Visual Studio 2012. Our deployment projects are not longer supported by Visual Studio 2012. So we decided to switch to Wix Toolset. We've got an Bootstrapper project with lots of elements in the installation chain. One of the requirements by our Rollout Department is, that every single dependency can be installed manually. So we decided to set compress=no for every element in the chain. This leeds to a chaos in the deployment directory. Is there any possibillity to create an subfolder for every element in the chain ? Hi, I think it has nothing to do with the wix installer. I've seen Problems like this when the date on the Target machine is not set correct or the machine has some Problems validating certs.
