Re: [WiX-users] Weekly releases are no longer updated?

2014-03-18 Thread Rob Mensching
It's all on me. There have been a lot of behind the scene changes going on that
needed to be completed to get new builds up. There also haven't been many
changes.

However, a new build will happen very soon. Only one or two small behind the
scenes stuff to finish up.

Subject: [WiX-users] Weekly releases are no longer updated?

Hi all,

I noticed for a long time that the weekly updates at
http://wixtoolset.org/releases are not updated since January 20, 2014.
Is there a specific reason for this? Do we actually have to build the set
ourselves in order to test them?
Or is there nothing specific that can be tested / everything is open so a
useable version cannot be build?
Or is it just my proxy that keeps the old page in cache ;)

Best regards,

Albert van Peppen

Re: [WiX-users] Weekly releases

2013-09-25 Thread Albert van Peppen
My First concern is regarding the libraries (.lib files) so I can build my CAs
in C++ using VS2013.
I can use the VS2012 libraries but seeing the improvements in C++/VS2013 I
would like to test the VS2013 compiled libraries.
Also VS2012 Update 4 (still RC3) has some optimizer issues fixed which I think
can fix some problems in some of my CAs, not sure though :).

Since my builds are automated and I don't really use Votive, this is of less
concern to me :)

Best regards,

Albert van Peppen

BTW, Alex, this is like the 4th time you've asked for VS2013 support in Votive.
I *highly* recommend you jump in and help write the code to add the support or
do *something* to take some burden off the people who volunteer time on the WiX
toolset before asking again.

I say this because it's around the 2nd time of asking volunteers to do work for
you without offering to help out in anyway that your requests actually start to
*discourage* volunteers from working on the feature for you. If the feature
gets done it's often in spite of repeated requests, not because of them.

PS: I know I went off on a rant about this same topic a week or so ago so I
apologize to those of you that read the list regularly. To those of you that
regularly answer questions here or write code/fix bugs and generally help make
the WiX toolset better, thank you.

Weekly releases are back at http://wix.sourceforge.net/releases. The
issue was that SourceForge changed access to the shell server in their
move from CA to Chicago. This was documented, I just missed the memo
(mm'kay). Anyway, build scripts are updated and I manually pushed last
week's build. Hopefully, we're back on track. Sorry for the trouble.

Yeah, sorry, should have sent an update. SourceForge recently moved all of
their servers from one datacenter (California, I think) to another (Chicago, I
think). Something has changed in the move and we're still debugging what is
wrong with our publish scripts. Unfortunately, I'm in the middle of selling
one house and buying another so I haven't had the cycles to work on it beyond
the initial diagnosis.

CVS should be up to date if you really want to build your own version...
otherwise, I'm going to be up late a few nights this week so I'm hoping to
investigate this a little bit here and there.

I'll make sure it goes through correctly this week.

Generally, a weekly release is "promoted" to a SourceForge release after
it's been out for a while and no major bug reports surface. So they're
an unknown factor but they come out frequently.

Thanks Bob, I was unaware of that location. Question:

Are they considered to be less stable than what is found here:

16
?
Just wondering whether it's recommend to use or avoid those packages?

Thanks,

Where did you get 3.0.3106.0 from? Did you build it from source?
I ask because I notice it's not available for download yet (I just
checked) and as such it may not really be ready for release yet.

Weekly releases of WiX are available at
