Re: Re: WNN Midday?

2010-03-21 Thread islevamp
That's already happening here (Hawaii). Our local NBC & CBS affiliates
share news operations. Some shows are simulcast on both stations, some are
time-shifted (5:30 on one, 6:00 on another). Oh, and the NBC affiliate was
ALREADY doing this for the local CW station, so we basically have one news
room / team for 3 different networks here!

Gotcha. I actually prefer the Android OS to the locked-down iPhone, but I'm

I did that to a cousin, too, with similar results. Probably it just
inspires the malware to greater heights. I should probably write her
a note on FB, as I notice she's still going strong there and the
little bug doesn't seem to be able to access her wall, but haven't
been bothered yet and historically know that such observations can be
taken by unwary recipients in such a manner they have to go through a
3-step-denial process before admitting anything's wrong. Don't have
the energy for that right now, I guess. Besides, Phyllis Diller
trinkets could be fun.

I did that to a cousin, too, with similar results. Probably it just inspires
the
malware to greater heights. I should probably write her a note on FB, as I
notice she's still going strong there and the little bug doesn't seem to be
able
to access her wall, but haven't been bothered yet and historically know that
such observations can be taken by unwary recipients in such a manner they have
to go through a 3-step-denial process before admitting anything's wrong. Don't
have the energy for that right now, I guess. Besides, Phyllis Diller trinkets
could be fun.

SIGH.

Harry was on the tin foil hat show in the 1 a.m. ET hour promoting his
new album. and said that "he wants everyone to know he's dead so he can
posthumously win a grammy."

So Ian Punnett, the host jokes the following hour (which I tuned into)
that ... "Harry Shearer is dead."

The pissed off call screener explained it all to me once I finally got

And as far as I'm reading the law, there's nothing prohibiting
you from changing your "w-4" status from, say, "2 allowances"
to three or four. And if you're converned that this might
leave you owing money to the Feds, and you don't want that
to be the case, you can, indeed, request an additional $25/check
go to them. (Amounts chosen for illustraion).

For example, let's say you're currently listing 2 allowances
on your w-4, and this gets you to withholding of:

IRS:$50
Cal:$20

- and those numbers, when carried through the year, get
you to April 15th with just-about-zero liablity.

alifornia's new rules changed the withholding, so now:

IRS:$50
CAl:$40

But on April 15th you'll have overpaid Cal $400.

What you can do is change your W-4 to 5 allowanaces,
giving you withholdinf of:

IRS:$25
Cal:$20

- so your Cal. amounts will remain the same. ANd... to take
care of the IRS underpayment, you can simply ask that
another $25 be pulled off the top each check.

One interesting thing I discovered, when adjusting my W-4 allowances to
compensate for the tax-deductible alimony payments, is that one ex-wife is

Oh, yeah, sorry to be late. That wasn't quite *the* very first Polka

I've heard rumors of an even earlier very first polka, predating

actually don't know when our polka was first, er, polked.

Just wait until the big dumb JJ Abrams remake.

Me, I gave the gift of Stan Freberg this year. And I'm getting
Europa Universalis III, although actual receipt was delayed because
it's shipping from somewhere we don't know where although we think it
might be Britain because they quote prices in Pounds, Euros, and

Also I ran into a radio serial version of The Avengers.

RE: Loot

2008-12-26 Thread Donna Christiansen

Before my time so I had to Google it. From
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0061242/plotsummary

Coronet Blue" (1967)
Mike is running from some men when he falls into the harbour. He climbs out
remembering only that he was running and the phrase 'coronet blue'. As the show
continues from week to week, Mike tries to piece together clues as to his
identity as individuals he refers to as Greybeards seem to be intent on killing
him

"Coronet Blue" creator Larry Cohen, in his autobiography "The Radical
Allegories of an Independent Filmmaker," explained the mystery behind the
series' title/catch-phrase. "When the Brodkin Organization took over the
series, they wanted to turn it into an anthology... so they played down the
amnesia aspect until there was nothing about it at all in the show. It was just
Frank Converse wandering from one story to the next with no connective format
at all. Anyway, the show ended after seventeen weeks and nobody found out what
'coronet blue' meant. The actual secret is that Converse was not really an
American at all. He was a Russian who had been trained to appear like an
American and was sent to the U.S. as a spy. He belonged to a spy unit called
'Coronet Blue.' He decided to defect, so the Russians tried to kill him before
he can give away the identities of the other Soviet agents. And nobody can
really identify him because he doesn't exist as an American. Coronet Blue was
actually an outgrowth of 'The Traitor' episode of "The Defenders" (1961)."
However, anyone who has seen the show knows that the amnesia aspect was in fact
NOT played down (one episode had Alden declining a golden opportunity to learn
the truth about himself--or at least a good part of it--on moral grounds
concerning the way the information became available to him). Other facts are
that thirteen episodes were all that were filmed, and that from first air date
to last is only fourteen weeks--fifteen potential weekly air dates if you
include those at both ends, but only eleven of the episodes were aired; in any
case, Cohen's "seventeen weeks," made in a BOOK wherein he presumably had
plenty of time to check and be certain that he got such fundamental facts
correct, is indefensible. All this calls the validity of the entirety of his
statement into question.

Ah, yes, I remember this show from 2002, when it was called "John Doe."

Shall we start a pool, next Republican senator to switch?

Re: Egads.

2009-09-10 Thread damonbeau

Here's something I typed up for a few friends during the Olympics last
year, having clipped some news report at the beginning:

==
An average of 31.1 million viewers stayed home Saturday to watch
Phelps and his teammates compete in the mens 4x100 medley relay, as
well as gymnastics and beach volleyball. An estimated 70 million
viewers watched over the course of the whole primetime program,
peaking at nearly 40 million during the 11 p.m. half hour, when the
relay was held.

The last time NBC had such success on a Saturday was on Feb. 24, 1990,
with Golden Girls spinoff Empty Nest starring Richard Mulligan, which
drew 31.4 million viewers.
===

I guess this does a couple of things for me. First, it illustrates
the demise of network television: it takes a guy swimming for the
most Olympic gold medals ever -- *and other stuff* -- to get to 40
million viewers. And second... it is a reminder of just how powerful
network TV once was. In 1990, the U.S. population was approximately
248 million. An average of 31.1 million viewers stayed home Saturday
to watch Phelps and his teammates compete in the mens 4x100 medley
relay, as well as gymnastics and beach volleyball. An estimated 70
million viewers watched over the course of the whole primetime

In memory of Tom,

Black Friday Polka

Break the doors down

Join the pack

Help our stores get in the black

That's the black the Friday polka

Come on shoppers out of bed

Santa Claus is in the red

That's the black the Friday polka

You help our economy by spending all your pay

Too bad none of this junk is made here in the USA

Stars and stripes still the king

wave your flags made in Beijing

For the black the Friday polka

Plasma TVs really sweet

Hand held toys to help you tweet

That's the black the Friday polka

Better not mess with me

Kick that kid and grab his Wii

That's the black the Friday polka

Spend your money now and get an early Christmas thrill

Cause next year we'll be paying for Obama's healthcare bill

Underneath a Christmas tree, a brand new colonoscopy

That's the black the Friday polka

Stores open at 5am so here is what you should do

When this polka is finish run right out and join the queue

Buy stuff cheap go today then resell it on eBay

That's the black the Friday polka

Ready, set, charge it!

- and then again, there's the Reverend Billy:

Subject: "Reverend Billy Says "Buy Nothing""

While many are celebrating the slashed prices today, Reverend Billy and
his Stop Shopping Choir are lambasting the Black Friday masses and the
corporate overlords that preside over them. This morning the good Rev hit
Macy's for his annual Buy Nothing Day. In an op-ed yesterday, he wrote,
"We'll be there at 5am, when shoppers who have been up all night wait in
line rush the glass doors. This is the human comedy at its most sad, and
it is an environmental shopocalypse."

Around 11 a.m. the Reverend and his choir continued their crusade against
corporate capitalism and were out at the Valley Stream Wal-Mart holding a
memorial for Jdimytai Damour, who was killed in a stampede last year.

Re: Tsunami

2010-02-28 Thread T Freitas
Sorry, I was too busy working to check my personal mail until just now. My
mind is boggling over the overtime I've accrued during this tsunami warning.
Most of it spent updating the KITV4 twitter & facebook feeds & making
inundation zone maps.

I knew I was forgetting SOMETHING...
