My mistake, I was going from memory.
The actual problem comes with a longer call.  WB0GAG/1 R+11

[wsjt-devel] callsigns in <>

2023-12-27 Thread Bruce Dagel via wsjt-devel
While coordinating W1AW/O for Iowa, I observed that I couldn't make some
contacts because the signal report was cut off, i.e., Tx2 would be
WB0GAG   when WB0GAG R+11 should be sent.  I believe it
is a matter of too many characters.  The called station had nothing to
confirm.

A solution would appear to be to change so that the angle brackets
replace the spaces instead of being added to them, i.e.
WB0GAGR+11, where the angle brackets would do double duty.

This is how it works for me. In Device manager, with the radio turned
on, it shows - Silicon Labs CP210x USB to UART Bridge (com 5) and

Silicon Labs CP210X USB to UART Bridge (com 6).

In my Windows Sound Panel, I have Playback tab, IC-7610 Output, USB
Audio Codec. In Record tab, IC-7610 Input, USB Audio Codec. I use this
setup with all my digital stuff. It has worked with Windows 10 and now
Windows 11. I did change the names in the sound panel properties for
both Playback and Record. I then can enable or disable as I see fit for
what I do. It may not be the best convention, but it works for me.

E.g. I change my TS-590S audio CODEC name from "microphone" to

The TX and RX audio path can still be correctly selected but the

[wsjt-devel] 3 character limit for call sign?

2022-04-19 Thread Bruce Johnson via wsjt-devel
(Duplicate of what I posted to the groups.io list for WSJT-x)

I'm trying to operate a WSPR beacon for a special event station (N1D). It
appears that the *decoder *in WSJT-x does not accept the use of a three
letter call sign. The only spots I am getting are from (older?) decoders
such as what is built into a KiwiSDR receiver. Wonder if this limitation is
documented anywhere? Of course, the workaround would be to append a special
suffix to the call sign.

And this is the problem, Andy…. All of these modes were started on VHF. After

By the way, there wasn’t a bunch of whining about too many sequences on HF wen

The more people got into it, the more there started to be this strange desire

that the majority of the people on these modes now don’t know a thing about
using them on six or two meters. All you hear now is faster, faster, FASTER!
Good grief! As I posted months ago, why not just get the phone out and see how

Harry, why are you using HRD for your rig control? It all can be done
with the 7300. Use WSJT-X to direct the logging to  hrd for your
logging. I have not had any hick-ups doing it this way. Also is true for
the 7610 as well. I can also use JT-Alert and I tell it not to log to
hrd so I do not get a double logging of the contact.as well.

Maybe I'm missing something in the conversation.

Some good news for those that had the problem of your IC-7300 dropping
out of DATA mode when using HRD as the Rig Control for WSJT-X. Not
sure if the fix is in HRD or WSJT-X as both have new versions. If you
remember with previous versions if you had WSJT-X set to use the MODE
setting of Data/Pkt, then when you switched between TX and RX the Mode
indicator on the 7300's display would "twitch" every time and
sometimes it would drop out of USB-D and go to just plain USB. The
temporary fix was to set WSJT-X mode control to NONE and set the radio
to USB-D manually. I am now running version 6.7.0.391 of HRD and
version 2.5.0 of WSJT-X and with WSJT-X set to Data/Pkt there is no
more "twitching" of the mode indicator on the 7300 and the mode
appears to stay put and not drop out of USB-D. Now that the IC-9700
Rig Control has added the missing DATA mode to the software the
IC-9700 also appears to behave well using WSJT-X under HRD Rig
Control. Check it out to see if it is working for you as well.

[wsjt-devel] Wsjtx freeze with screensaver

2021-04-06 Thread Bruce Walker
Hello old WSJT & WSPR friends,

I’ve been back on the air for the last month after many years QRT, and I’ve
been running wstx 2.4.0-rc4 (and its predecessors) on linux using quisk to
drive an HL2. All is good, except I’ve noticed that wsjtx seems to freeze
whenever the screensaver kicks in, regardless of whether the mode is “power off
display”, “blank screen”, or whatever. In WPSR mode, it is still writing to
wsjtx_syslog.log without new errors, but WSPR_history.txt ends at the minute
the “blank screen” kicks in. After I unlock the screen, the wsjtx window and
waterfall are frozen. I believe the behavior is similar when monitoring FT8. If
I turn off the automatic screen blanking / lock, wsjtx continues to run without
issue, but I thought you would want to know about it.

that works, as far as I can see. So it still is a FTdx3000 problem.
But as I stated earlier, Im not computer savvy enough to understand why.

Latest: I happened, by coincidence, to start WSJT-X first, and then
N1MM+, today's update, and then it worked! I checked, starting N1MM+

It is a bit different. ;)

Yes that would be great. Native build would be far better.

I have been working on this for a while. At the moment we can run
Linux KVASD images under Linux emulation. I'm working on a toolchain
that will be better (native) for FreeBSD. I'll email Joe and get
him a login (and you for that matter) for a FreeBSD environment.

I noted some other silliness with some flags you and I can discuss
offline. I'd like to see those also fixed.

Packages on FreeBSD are built in a clean environment and would only
pick up the /usr/local/portaudio2 files. However, there are still many
apps that users run that use the older portaudio18 libs in /usr/local
that I wanted to ensure that the proper portaudio19 is picked up on systems.
I don't know how other systems handle this tbh.

I keep hoping portaudio folks finally release portaudio v19 so v18
can go away. ;)

I have both a centos and Ubuntu system that I can test on that
I run under bhyve on my FreeBSD system here.
https://www.freebsd.org/doc/handbook/virtualization-host-bhyve.html
Unfortunately I did not get a chance to test under either. Apologies.

I'll test ASAP today.

When I find time, today hopefully, I will set you and Joe up with
a FreeBSD bhyve instance that can be used with prior warning. (It will
be on one of my development machines so it goes up and down.)

O!! Perhaps we can get a version compiled up for FreeBSD now? This
is exactly what we saw the last time you compiled up kvasd for FreeBSD.
No output except 0's.

Speaking of clang, I catch a lot of errors using clang as it is now
the native compiler on FreeBSD.

[wsjt-devel] wsjtx 1.4 on FreeBSD

2014-10-10 Thread Diane Bruce
I have wsjtx running on FreeBSD with some minor diffs.

Minor nits first off.
The tarball is named wsjtx-1.4.0-rc2-Source
but unpacks into wsjtx-1.4.0-rc2-Linux.x86_64

I'll work up the diffs this afternoon.
