The KPC-4 was the dual port unit. KPC-2 was the basic TNC before
(surprise) the KPC-3.I have a KPC(-no number) from the mid 80's
that works fine in KISS mode on Linux AX25...

If I remember correctly, the KPC-2 was a dual-port TNC that had two 1200 baud
ports on it. It is REALLY old. I wonder what the firmware version and date is
on that unit.

I don't know much about the 2 either. The 3+ is better than the 3
when it comes to doing a full-blown digipeater, or using the TNC as
a tracker when it's not hooked up to Xastir.

Also, the 3+ is a currently manufactured item, whereas the 3 is not.
I suspect the 2 is older yet. That means you can get upgrade
EPROM's for the 3+ but perhaps not for the others.

I don't know about the 2 but there is no difference between the 3 and
3+ when it comes to xastir.

For the most part any TNC that does KISS will work (with a couple of
minor exceptions that the Kantronics don't fall in to).
