Is it easily reproducible? Try replacing Load "freetype" with Load "xtt" in the XF86Config file. Usually when a web browser segfaults the server it's because freetype choked on a font. Mark. [XFree86] Problem Loading Mandrkae/KDE.
Hello: I am a new member. I tried to install Mandrake 9.1 with KDE Environment on my PC. The windows try to open but then close immediately. I have a SiS 5597/5598 4MB Video Card and also an AOC 7ELR monitor. I have all the specifications for the monitor H:30-70, V:50-160, but choose 7CLR a closely related monitor while Config. as my monitor doesn't exist in the available choice. Moreover, custom entries of ranges are not permitted in XFDrake the Config tool. However, still the problem persists. Currently I am using Vector Linux 3.2, the config went well. However, when I use a browser etc., there are flashes and the ends shake sometimes. I must also mention that I have no porblem using my PC with the same setup for Windows 98. I have an IMB Aptiva PC Model E 140 with 156Meg RAM, 4Gig HD, 333MHz Processor. As AOC monitors and SiS 5597/5598 chips are both economy low end products several use them. There are also quite a few posts in Google regarding similar issues with these two pieces of hardware. More support for these two to work correctly with XFree86 is needed. Thank You. Re: [XFree86] Startx Mystery
Hello Satej! I'm running Gentoo on all four machines, no linuxconfig. What do I have to do to restore the default settings. Is there an editable file? From what I can gather reading the man pages for startx I'm told that the startx script is a front end for xinit but where do I find the startx script? I can always compare it to the script on the other macxhine and correct the entries. Does this problem not have to do with the script's not handling an environmental variable properly? That conclusion would certainly seem supportable from the manual. Something's happened to change the treatment of these variables? That would be my guess but what do I know. [XFree86] loadable extension and unresolved symbols
Hello, I apologize in advance if this is not the appropriate place for my question. I am trying to create a loadable extension for version 4.3 (on Redhat 8). I am getting unresolved symbols errors from the loader which I cannot seem to figure out. As a learning experience and trivial test, I modified the Record extension source (record/record.c) and added a call to select() inside of the RecordExtensionInit() routine. When I launch the server, I get an error message that says: Symbol select from module librecord.a is unresolved! This should not happen! An unresolved function was called! If I run 'nm' on the XFree86 binary, it shows the following: U select@@GLIBC_2.0 If I run 'nm' on the librecord.a module, it shows the following: U select Am I missing some compiler/linker options in the record extension build that cause the @@GLIBC_2.0 to be appended to the symbol name in the nm output? As far as I know, I've read the documentation for the loader. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, -Jason __ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Re: [Fwd: [XFree86] accessibility?]
Hi Michael: I was forwarded your email, I don't usually read the xfree86 list. Accessibility for X is a mixed bag; there's the excellent 'AccessX' aka AKB extension which helps a great deal for mild-to-moderate mobility problems, and allows more users to use the keyboard. XKB alone doesn't provide much of a user-interface, so utilities such as the 'accessx' commandline utility and things like the GNOME "Desktop Preferences->Accessibility->Keyboard" dialog give the user control over features like Sticky Keys, Mouse Keys, Slow Keys, etc. XKB also makes possible things like "visual bell" features, again featured with GNOME version 2.4, in the "Sound" desktop preferences dialog. With respect to fullscreen magnification and assistive technology support, X accessibility has been much less successful. That's partly because the X desktop tends to be heterogeneous, toolkit-wise, and also because of X's nice client-server network architecture which makes it much harder to do the usual assistive technology hacks like replacing the video driver and hooking into low-level OS functions. There was an attempt to create an X-based screen-reader called the BEAM project, some years ago, but I don't think the results were terribly promising, for various technical reasons. The story is changing with the GNOME Accessibility Project which aims to put a service-based API and architecture in place which is toolkit-agnostic and works with various apps. At the moment it's working with the latest or development versions of GTK+ (2.0+), GNOME (2.2+), Java (1.4.1+), StarOffice/OpenOffice.org (6.X, 1.1+), Mozilla (in development, 1.4?), and KDE has announced a plan for integrating with it as well. GNOME version 2.4.0 was bundled with initial versions of an integrated screenreader/magnifier ('gnopernicus')), a suite of adaptive onscreen keyboards ('gok'), and other accessibility features such as extensive visual theme support and full keyboard navigation (modulo some bugs of course). Version 2.4.0 was just released last week, so it will probably start to be folded into Linux distributions in the coming months. The fullscreen magnification issue, as well as some other keyboard-interception issues, are still challenges for delivery of good assistive technology on X. Fullscreen magnification currently requires 2 X screens (and thus, for the moment, two framebuffers), and good event interception will require a new X extension which is currently under discussion, to supplement Xlib's XGrab features which have serious limitations from an assistive technology viewpoint. best regards, Bill Haneman The GNOME Accessibility Project http://developer.gnome.org/projects/gap > Original Message > Subject: [XFree86] accessibility? > Date: Sat, 13 Sep 2003 11:59:24 -0500 > From: Michael <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Reply-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > > I'm working on a little article on handicapped accessibility in Linux. > Could anyone give me some pointers where to find useful information in > regard to accessibility and XFree86 or any X related software your > familiar with? Re: [XFree86] What do I need if I want to build a minimized X window?
AFAIK, minimization is a window manager feature and hence it is NOT handled by X. I know that there are different protocols for communicating with the window manager but which I do not know. You could always try to use hide/show the window and use a show/hide an icon or something. HTH W ___ XFree86 mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://XFree86.Org/mailman/listinfo/xfree86
[XFree86] What do I need if I want to build a minimized X window?
Can any of you tell me what I can do if I want to build a minimized X Window? I wish to make a minimized Linux that can be run in a 32M flash disk rather than a hard disk. Now I have a kernel and a initrd, and I was told to copy the /usr/X11R6/lib and /usr/X11R6/bin to the img file that will be mounted to the /usr. But /usr/X11R6/lib and /usr/X11R6/bin are too big for my flash disk. My friend told me that I just need to copy the neccesary files and lib files to the img file that will be mounted to the /usr. Can u tell me the least files and libs that I need to build a X window? 3X! +++ + Tel: 086-010-62986638-4003 + E-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] +++ ___ XFree86 mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://XFree86.Org/mailman/listinfo/xfree86
