I see it crashing in free(), called from CMapUnwrapScreen(). If I add some debugging ErrorF's the caller of the crashing free() moves. I'll try a build on FreeBSD and enable some of its malloc debugging flags. That located the problem nicely, aborting at the actual double-free. However, the timer pointers kept by the screen saver code weren't being cleared for each generation, so the old values kept being used and added back to the timers list. Re: [XFree86] DVI output with nVidia and xfree 4.3
Mark, It's great to hear that I should be able to get the nv driver working! I've made a big step of progress, I can now start up X well enough using the nv driver, but I can't seem to be able to get a resolution higher than 1024x786. Ideally, I would like to be able to use 1280x1024, the monitor's native resolution. I've posted the relevant files online, as I didn't know if the list server stripped attachments, and I didn't want to put the contents in the body of the message. So, here they are: http://chb.orangekids.net/XFree86.0.log http://chb.orangekids.net/XF86Config Thanks in advance for any advice! I'll need to see the /var/log/XFree86.0.log when running the nv driver to diagnose why it's not working. Mark. The monitor has duel inputs, analog and digital, but I'd like to, if possible, use the DVI input. It functions adequately using the vesa driver, limited to 1024x786. I'd like to be able to use nVidia's binary driver, nvidia, or at least the nv driver. When I try to use the nv driver, the screen will go blank and flash slightly, eventually the led on the LCD will begin to flash, and I have to press Ctrl+Alt+BackSpace to drop out of X. Similar behavior is observed using the nvidia driver. I've been looking around for advice, including this list's archives, and have integrated that advice into my XFree86Config file. I've attached it, with the added/modified lines highlighted. None of them have seemed to made an impact on this particular problem however. [XFree86] Matrox G200
Hi all, no response on my previous post, so I will try again. I have some PC's each with one onboard Matrox AGP G200 and each 2 x Matrox G200 PCI adaptors. The two PCI adaptors are attached to 17 Monitors. I would like Xinerama to work on these two PCI adaptors but it doesnt work. Is there a reason why I might not be able to do this while there is an AGP adaptor onboard or is it maybe something else? I am not able to disable this AGP adaptor in the BIOS, so it is there, but not being used. So what happens is the first adaptor works perfectly and displays half of the desktop. The second adaptor tends to display just a bunch of lines on the monitor rather than the other half of the desktop, and when you move the mouse accross that side, it just becomes a blob that moves around. The higher I set the resolution on this display, the finer the lines are and the smaller the blob (mouse cursor) I have tried taking out one of the PCI adaptors and then using one PCI and the AGP card together, but that does not work in fact I don't even get the lines or the blob on the second screen. Is there anyone out there that has managed to get two Matrox cards to work using Xinerama? Is there anyone that can advise me why this is happening? I have approx. 39 of these PC's that need to work, so it is not as simple as just changing the one display card unfortunately. [XFree86] Problem with ATI Rage Mobility P/M AGP 2x
Hi I'm running Debian 3.0 on my laptop with KDE 3.1.4 ATI Rage Mobility graphics chip with 8Mb of memory. Everything was fine until a few days ago when I downloaded the lastest Xserver upgrade from 4.1 to 4.2. At that point when I re-started X-windows I found that I had several 1 m/m white strip from the top to the bottom of the screen. I've tried re-configuring X-windows and various other things. Refuses to work at all. After re-configuring I've done 'XFree86 -xf86config /root/XF86Config.new' The new XF86Config is in /root. Still get the same white strip at the bottom of the screen. and it still doesn't want to work properly. Anyone know how to sort this out ? I've attached some info in the hope that someone can explain. Your X-server has not been configured. The X-server that shipped with RH 9 (XFree86 4.3) should support all current NVIDIA cards. RH 9 must have a tool to configure X (xconfigurator?). Run it. If you don't have that, XFree86 itself can generate a working XF86Config file with XFree86 -configure. Mark. On Tue, 28 Oct 2003, Steve P. wrote: Hello, I am sending you 2 files. It says: (II) NV(0): Not using default mode 1280x1024 (hsync out of range) The XF86Config file says your monitor's specs are: (II) NV(0): Samsung SyncMaster 172T: Using hsync range of 30.00-63.00 kHz (II) NV(0): Samsung SyncMaster 172T: Using vrefresh range of 56.00-75.00 Hz but the VESA, 1280x1024 mode that the server would try to use has a 64 kHz hsync. This would imply that a monitor with those specs can't do that mode. It seems the correct specs are not entered into the XF86Config. On samsung's web page: http://www.samsung.com/Products/Monitor/LCDMonitor/Monitor_LCDMonitor_172T_sp.htm The hsync range is listed as 30-81 The vsync range is listed as 56-75 Which would have no problem with 1280x1024. [XFree86] MGA G450 -- not support Overlay Xinerama simultaneously?
Hi, all. When I try to fire up both Xinerama and Overlay on my G450 32 MB, it dies with Incompatible screens. Root window depths differ [I'll post the whole log below.] I can get either Xinerama -or- Overlay to work just fine. Lastly, according to this link: http://calmarc3.cchem.berkeley.edu/archives/bum/02/archive/0058.html they do appear to be mutually exclusive. Is this true? Might it be fixed in 4.3? Re: [XFree86] Purchase Advice Needed: Robust DVI support?
The radeon driver code has code to handle two DVI ports however, the cards are very rare. I've never tested it. Also there might be issues depending on what tmds/lvds controller the vendor uses since the radeon only has a one integrated controller. Dual DVI boards require an external controller to drive the other DVI port. Depending on the controller, you might need additional code to handle its set up. Mark, Whoo-hoo! Thanks for your help, Mark. Everything seems to be working wonderfully. I seem to be experiencing more ghosting using my desktop, however, than when I hooked up the same LCD to my laptop. If anyone has any ideas about why that could be, I would love to hear them. Re: [XFree86] nVidia 1.0-4496 driver works fine on Redhat 9.0
Hello: nVidia FX5600 is now running well under Redhat 9.0 with OpenGL hardware acceleration, 3D. OpenOffice works fine, xmms works fine, glxgears runs at about 3200fps. This is how: Download install the following RPMs from Redhat: Check dependencies, ignore the conflict warnings (rpm -i --test). Install 1st: glibc-common-2.3.2-27.9.i386.rpm Install 2nd: glibc-2.3.2-27.9.i686.rpm (rpm -i -v --replacefiles). Download the nVidia driver and install it (sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-4496.pkg2.run). Edit /etc/X11/XF86Config: Remove: Load dri and Load GLcore Add: Load glx Change: Driver nv To: Driver nvidia Thanks to all, especially for pointing out that glibc less than 2.3.2-11.9, is broken (thread-local-storage Vs dlopen() and shared lib access). NVIDIA's drivers make extensive use of it and I believe it is broken in RH 9. This was probably mentioned someplace in NVIDIA's documenation. Mesa probably doesn't make use of thread local storage so would be unaffected. nVidia FX5600 gives 3200fps glxgears with hardware acceleration, but we're limited to 350fps because nVidia's driver does not function properly. Will nVidia issue a working driver soon? For GLX it's merely a matter of removing NVIDIA's /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/extensions/libglx.so. XFree86's is the libglx.a and the .so takes preference over the .a. For the OpenGL libraries you need to remove NVIDIA's which are in /usr/lib and reinstate XFree86's which are in /usr/X11/lib (with symlinks from /usr/lib). Mark. Powerful Servers - Our servers are top quality Ensim servers running RedHat 7.2, many people may say Ensim isn't a good control panel, we've modified Ensim to make it do exactly what we and our users want it to, we also run on servers with at minimum 1 ghz of processing power and 512 megs of ram, much better than the hosts still running on cobalt raqs! Support - We offer many different support methods including a Help Desk, E-Mail, Forums, Support Chat and FAQS. These combined mean you can usually find an answer to your query fast. We currently have 4 staff members who are constantly watching e-mail and helpdesk for new problems. There's rarely a problem which takes over a day to fix unless it is something extra, eg. installing perl modules which we will do if requested. Our staff are located all around the world meaning whatever timezone you're in we can provide you with fast support! We have staff in the US, Canada and the United Kingdom. Community - We have a growing community of hostees who love to talk and help others. Our forums are constantly buzzing with talk and often another user can help you out if an admin is busy helping another customer. Our community forums also give you a handy search tool so you can see if your question has been answered previously meaning you don't have to wait for the answer. Many of our hostees also feel they're getting such a good deal they wish to contribute in some way to the growth of the company, we're constantly receiving new customers who have been referred from old ones and many of our hosted sites choose to make their own support buttons and link to us on their sites. We don't ask them to, they do it because they know they're getting a great deal and wish to help UZIPP grow larger. The buttons our hostees make for us can be found in the about section of our site. UZIPP tries to give a sense of fun to it's hostees, while remaining professional, one way we've done this is to name our servers as fruits and we let our members choose the names, it shows we're not all serious geeks over here! Planned Growth - We have been operating for just over two years and are steadily increasing in number of sites, servers and staff. We don't overload our servers, each server houses 100 - 200 sites on it, compared to other hosts who choose to put 300 - 500 sites on them, sometimes more. We arn't increasing by a few hundred accounts a day which means we have enough staff available to help you and we can manage our growth better. We add staff as we feel they are needed and we always make sure we have enough staff on hand to support our customers. Range - We try to provide the best range of hosting plans possible to suit your needs. If you have a small personal site you wish to host then our value plans are for you, if you have a larger site we offer un-metered
