[XFree86] TinyX - vesa and wacom (two questions)

2003-12-13 Thread Gregory Richards
I downloaded XFree86 v 4.3.99.901, and compiled it as TinyX with RandR
enabled, with the fbdev and vesa servers. First off, they all try to
communicate on inet6, which I don't have, but that's not very bad, since I
can just append -nolisten inet6. However, more importantly, Xvesa doesn't
work at all. If I type:
Xvesa -nolisten inet6
or
Xvesa -nolisten tcp
,
it simply does nothing. Whatsoever. It doesn't make a log, it doesn't have
any output, it doesn't open a display, nothing. Vesa works with regular X.
Xfbdev does work, but (of course) it's low-qual.

Does TinyX use a configuration file? It seems like no changes I make to any
file actually effect TinyX . . .

Finally, is it possible to use a Wacom tablet in TinyX? I haven't even
figured out where to configure it . . .

Re: [XFree86] (no subject)

2003-12-13 Thread Mark Vojkovich
I'm not exactly sure what that error means, but I would
guess that it means that the Section "Device" in your
/etc/X11/XF86Config file is referencing a driver that does
not exist in your /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers directory.

[XFree86] Mouse in Xvesa (kdrive) doesn't work on Compaq Armada

2003-12-13 Thread Elton Algera
Hi,

I have an old compaq armada 1590DT, equipped with 50MB memory.

I'd like to run Xvesa on this because of the low memory needs.

However, the server starts, the windowmanager starts as well, but
neither the mouse, nor the touchpad will operate: the mouse cursor remains
frozen

I tried just about any option to start Xvesa, but an example would be:

/usr/X11R6/bin/xinit /usr/X11R6/bin/Xvesa -screen 800x600x16 -mouse
/dev/psaux -nolisten tcp

When I run the "normal" X-server (Chips server) ( video device is C&T
F68554) it runs just fine with the device /dev/psaux.

Has anyone a clue of what could be wrong?

Thanks,

Elton

[XFree86] problem with the font size

2003-12-13 Thread Pascal Boulet
Hello,

I have installed XFree86 4.3.0 on my Linux PC (RedHat 7.3). Everything
seem to work fine except that the fonts and windows sizes are much too large
compared to my screen (15'' flat screen). How can I set this properly?

Thank you for your help,

Pascal

Take a look at http://www.linux-laptop.net/. There are a
couple of toshiba laptops on that page that look similar
where people have successfully installed linux. At least
that's where I'd start.

[XFree86] xfree86 embedded ARM question

2003-12-13 Thread Gen Bao
Dear Sir or Madam,
We are building a J2SE on our ARM (Samsung S3C2410 )
system, where the Linux version is MiziLinux.

Having already installed the J2SE for ARM into the
system, we discovered that a X Window Server is needed
to show images when running a JAVA application.

We tried XFree86, but found it is very difficult to
write the config file, the 'XF86Config'. The problem
is that we don't know how to config the display device
and the driver items. The related section of the
'XF86Config' on Redhat 9.0 is like the following:
... ...
Section "Monitor"
Identifier "Monitor0"
VendorName "Monitor Vendor"
ModelName "MAG 770PF"
DisplaySize 320 240
HorizSync 30.0 - 70.0
VertRefresh 50.0 - 160.0
Option "dpms"
EndSection

Section "Device"
Identifier "Videocard0"
Driver "i810"
VendorName "Videocard vendor"
BoardName "Intel 845"
VideoRam 16384
EndSection

Section "Screen"
Identifier "Screen0"
Device "Videocard0"
Monitor "Monitor0"
DefaultDepth 24
SubSection "Display"
Depth 24
Modes "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
EndSubSection
EndSection
... ...

But for the CPU, ARM S3C2410, the displayer device is
a build-in hardware component, therefore, there is no
display card at all.

Any body has the experience of writing such a config
file?

Yours Faithfully
