Radeon 9800XT 3D acceleration problem

2003-12-26 Thread Gerhard W. Gruber
I have a Asus Radeon 9800XT and everything I tried so far, to get 3D
acceleration working, failed. Now I wonder if
there is the chance that XFree will support this card with 3D natiively any
time soon. All the success stories I
found were with 9800PRO and the only guy, I found with the XT model, had the
same problems as I.

I read that ATI committed themselve to a drvier update 6 times per year.
Anybody know when the next issue is to be
expected? I hope that this will be fixed then.

Of course if anybody has some suggestion as how to get 3D working I would
gladly appreciate any suggestions.

Re: [XFree86] 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Trident Microsystems CyberBlade/i1 (rev 5d)

2003-12-26 Thread en ne
Dear Alan/XFree,

I have the same problem with the last Xfree.
I have the feeling that the problem happens more and
more often with newer versions (before it was very
seldom). I had it again (this time pinkish screen),
this time I had just to restart X.
I also noticed that after the movie messed up the
graphic card, also the window of xawtv with a webcam
as
an input was greenish (if this can be of any help).

What should I do now?
Thanks

Most of the times it works, then something happens
and
you get a green screen when playing an avi.
Sometimes
you are lucky and if you use different progs or try
to
play other avi files the problem disappears. Other
times there is no way of recovering and you have to
 poweroff (restart X never helps).
In between you can play other things, say vcds.

I tried to understand if there is a possible
workaround, but no clue. Have experienced this with
all the distros I tried (mdk/rh/fedora/suse).

 Any help?
Should I give up hope or will this problem be fixed
in
the future?? I have the feeling that this problem is
a
bug of the later versions of X.

Try the latest XFree86 CVS and re-report if you have
furthur problems.

Alan.

Any thoughts on how to use a ATI Radeon (probably 9000 or 9200) debian

Sarge has XFree4.2x and the xfree86.org web site documents no radeon

but only in RPM format (no .deb) Also, someone mentioned the VESA

Best wishes of good health and success in your pursuits particularly through my

INTRODUCTION:
My colleagues and I are senior officials of the Federal Government of Nigeria’s
Contracts Review Panel who are interested in investing some funds that are presently
floating in the accounts of the Central Bank of Nigeria. In order to commence this
transaction, we solicit your assistance to enable us transfer into your account the
said floating funds.

We are determined to conclude the transfer before the end of this quarter of 2003. The
source of the funds are as follows: During the last military regime, government
officials awarded contracts that were grossly over-invoiced to Contractors. The present
civilian government set up the Contract Review Panel, which has the mandate to use the
instruments of payments made available to it by the decree setting up the panel, to
review these contracts and if necessary pay those who are being owed outstanding
amounts. My colleagues and I have identified quite a huge sum of these funds which are
presently floating in the Central Bank of Nigeria ready for disbursement and would
like to invest some of it for our own purposes.

However, by virtue of our positions as civil servants and members of this panel,we
cannot acquire these funds in our names or in the names of companies that are based in
Nigeria. I have therefore been mandated, as a matter of trust by my colleagues in the
panel, to look for a reliable overseas partner into whose account we can transfer the
sum of Sixteen million, five hundred thousand U.S. Dollars That is why I am writing you
this letter.

We have agreed to share the money to be transferred into your account,if you agree
with our proposition as follows; (i) 10% to the account owner (you). (ii) 80% for us
(the panel officials). (iii) 10% to be used in settling all expenses (by both you and
us )incidental to the actualisation of this project. We wish to invest our share of
the proceeds of this project in foreign stock markets and other business till we are
ready and able to have access to them without raising any eyebrows here at home.

Please note that this transaction is 100% safe . We intend to effect the transfer
within fourteen(14) banking days from the date of receipt of the following
information: Your name, company’s name, address , telephone and fax numbers . The
above information will enable us write letters of claim and job description
respectively. This way, we will use your company’s name to apply for the payment and
backdate the award of the contract to your company. We are looking forward to carrying
out this transaction with you and we solicit your utmost confidentiality in its
execution.

 Hi,

We're using Xft2/Fontconfig/Freetype2 to display truetype (chinese) fonts.
However, we don't have the possibility to use a toolkit like Qt or GTK, so
 we're calling Xft calls directly.

The result is that our applications works, including Chinese fonts, but the
 X server runs to a 100% load.

The question is how to debug this scenario. We have a Qt test application
(using Xft2) that works perfectly, and we want to see what the difference is
between these two. How can we log X server events? Or are there other
possibilities to debug a X11 application?

Configure your X using the tool redhat-config-xfree86. Check whether
your card is supported by X ??

[XFree86] Logitech MX700 configuration problems

2003-12-26 Thread Darren Pilgrim
Note: Please CC me as I'm not subscribed to this list. Thanks.

I have a Logitech MX700 and am using XFree86 4.3.0,1 (built from ports)
on FreeBSD 5.1-R-p2. I have the wheel and cruise buttons working, but
the forward, back, and quick switch buttons don't do anything. There
are keyboard combinations that do exactly what I want those buttons to
do, so I figure I could map key-presses to those buttons, but haven't
been able to figure out how to do so. The related configuration bits
are at the bottom of this email.

Xev shows me that the forward and back buttons, as configured, generate
button 5 and 4 evens, respectively, but the quick switch button doesn't
generate an event. Why doesn't the quick switch button generate an
event?

There are keyboard combinations do what I want the buttons to do. There
are plenty of sources for instructions on how to map mouse-clicks to
keyboard keys but not the other way around. How do I map a key-press to
a mouse button?

Here are the related configuration bits:

Section InputDevice
  IdentifierMX700
  Drivermouse
  OptionProtocol auto
  OptionDevice/dev/ums0
  OptionEmulate3Buttons off
  OptionButtons 10
  OptionZAxisMapping 6 7
EndSection

Xmodmap pointer setting of 1 2 3 6 7 4 5 8 9 10.

[XFree86] porting Xfree86

2003-12-26 Thread suresh chandra
Dear Friends,
We are a group of people working on porting Xfree86 to
a new 32bit processor.

We have GCC cross compiler developed and Glibc 2.2
ported for this particular platform.

1) Whether Xfree86 need any other libraries other than
Glibc?

2) whether it can be tested on SBC test protype system
running on 4Mhz (FPGA is supposed to run on 300Mhz).

3) TinyX aka Kdrive has been ruled out as this system
is going to use as desktop.

4) I request you to provide the entire directory
structure of Xfree86.

5) I need help regarding porting experiences and
dependency problems of Xfree86.

thanks in advance.

Regards,
suresh.
