Making your driver MIT/X11 licensed, or dual licensing it as MIT/X11 and GPL, would allows other drivers to be able to benefit from sharing code with your driver as well. Of course it is totally up to you what license you would prefer to use. Yeah, i would recomend a MIT/X11 GPL dual licence, that would be nice, so the code could later be shared by the linux kernel, among others. XFree86 4.4.0 RC3 -configure problems
I have a couple of problems when running XFree86 -configure on Solaris 2.5.1 x86, with two Matrox G450 cards. The first is that it exits with: Fatal server error: xf86MapVidMem: mmap failure: No such device or address I have determined that the place that this is happening is line 111 of int10/generic.c, in the xf86ExtendedInitInt10 function: #ifdef _PC if (!sysMem) sysMem = xf86MapVidMem(screen, VIDMEM_MMIO, V_BIOS, BIOS_SIZE + SYS_BIOS - V_BIOS); This function is also called when running the server (with the same values passed to xf86MapVidMem) but with no mmap failure. I assume that there is some other initialization that is not being done with the -configure option. The XF86Config.new file is still produced though. The second problem that I have is that the VendorName and ModelName in the Monitor section get set to Monitor Vendor and Monitor Model instead of the actual names of the vendor and model like they used to be in 4.3.0. When running the server, the Manufacturer and Model still appear correctly in the log. This is a problem for me because the hsync range of the Kramer VP720-DS Seamless Switcher/Scaler that we use is not detected properly. The log reports it as Using default hsync range of 41.09-49.31 kHz, where in fact it is 15.36-90. This means that I have to do some post-processing on the config file after XFree86 -configure to manually set the hysnc range based on what the VendorName is. This is not possible any more since VendorName and ModelName are not configured properly. Another thing that I have noticed is that the DPMS option is no longer added. I don't understand why this would not be added anymore either for monitors reporting DPMS capabilities. Are there any reasons why these things are no longer configured by -configure? Can they be put back? Regards, Lindsay Haigh ___ Devel mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://XFree86.Org/mailman/listinfo/devel

John, I have exactly the same laptop and I got it working... so see the attached file for the configuration. Once you have the external monitor or beamer on, you will have to press Fn+F4 and some key, then the screen will appear. Btw, I have the 4496 version of the driver installed. The higher versions give problems for me. Currently I am not on my laptop, but I also have a configuration file for the S-Video port. This works very good too. If you want that, just let me know. I have gone to the Xfree86.org site but I do not understand whether or not I need to get a file from this site or not? And if I do from which folder? And how to untar it or unzip it on the workstation. I do have ftp from the command line working. Although I am new to ftp on the command line, maybe I can figure this out. Do I just need to configure some file or something? Does SuperProbe come with my Distribution? If so how do I find it and run it so it will tell me what my video chipset is? I am just very frustrated right now and just need some guidance? Thanks Woody

[XFree86] Nec Versa FP440 - Nividia GForce2MX
Hi, I don't if I'm at the right support address but I would configure a laptop with nvidia GForce2MX card under Linux RedHat 9. I've download the last pkg.run from the nvidia server and installed it without any matter. I set in the XF86Config file Driver nvidia rather than Driver nv. The laptop display works fine but I'm not able to use the external connector with a video projector. I got a random text screen in majority blue on the external screen when I used the nv driver. If I use the nvidia driver, the LCD works but the CRT seems to be in error and remains blacK. So, I've tried to set the TwinView Option without any success. Is it a matter with the material itself. We have some identical laptop with exactly the same problem. For now, I resolved temporarily the presentation matter by the use of the vesa driver. So, I lose all the advantages of fast video card. The problem is e-mail address impersonation: on infected machines the virus selects half of the contacts addresses as addressee and the other half as sender... This triggers a huge number of answers from the firewalls of thoses addressees who have one... in spite of it all Cheers Lionel --- Pieter Hulshoff [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: On Thursday 26 February 2004 12:08, [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Okay Cool, a MyDoom virus for my Linux machine! I was under the impression that no additional XFree86 configuration was necessary, but you do have to have a suitable modeline for the Apple display. There are probably suitable modelines that you can find on the web. Actually, I would expect that somebody has a web page describing this somewhere. I vaguely remember seeing one. [XFree86] Resolution problem on Gateway M305X laptop
Greetings, I am having difficulty getting my m305x gateway laptop to run at the advertised 1024x768 18bit color depth. The best resolution that I have been able to get is 800x600. It seemed to work under WinXP, but that is gone now :) The system is running Fedora Core 1, the chipset is Intel 852GM and X seems to be using the i810 driver. The Gateway specs on this machine say regarding the display: 15.0 XGA TFT Active Matrix Color Display 1024x768 @ 18 bit (262K) Colors. I don't have the laptop with me at work today and I did not bring a copy of XF86Config, but I do have a 'Display' subsection in the 'Screen' section that sets the depth to 16 and the resolution to 1024x768. I can provide XF86Config tomorrow if needed. My XFree86.0.log is attached. There you can see that I don't seem to have the BIOS related stolen memory problem (where the bios only allocates 1M video ram instead of 8M). Has anyone ever tried using a Mac flatpanel studi display monitor with the DVI conversion box. Mac DVI is different from regular DVI because it incorporates a USB connection. In order to plug the Mac connection into a regular DVI port you need to buy a mac conversion box which splits the signal into its component USB and DVI connections. Is there a way to configure my XFreee86-4 file to incorporate this box? __ Do you Yahoo!? Get better spam protection with Yahoo! [XFree86] problema
hi I have a problem that seems to be related with Xfree86. This happens when the computer is idle for some minutes. It goes to sleep mode and the monitor turns off. When i want to wake up it, it goes back to the login screen. In some situations the mouse doesn't work and i have to press Ctrl+Alt+Backspace to restart X again. You can see the XFree86.0.log at the end of the message. The problem happens with both gnome and kde. I have the kernel 2.4.21 (it's a Mandrake 9.1). My video board is 82845 CGC [Chipset Graphics Controller] thanks Daniel Carvalho ___ XFree86 mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://XFree86.Org/mailman/listinfo/xfree86
