[XFree86] XFree86 4.4RC3 - SiS DRI problem

2004-02-28 Thread ugenn
I am experiencing extremely glitchy 3D rendering with XFree86 4.4RC3. glxgears for eg,
prints the FPS at around 400 but displays a blank window. Other OpenGL apps have
missing polygons or very badly warped polygons.

I can load all the X modules (sis_drv and sis_dri) and kernel modules (sisfb and sis)
without errors. Nothing out of the ordinary shows in the logs. glxinfo shows that
Direct Rendering is enabled (see below for output).

I got the same problem with both the prebuilt and my self-compiled version.

My system is a source built Linux system using kernel 2.6.3, glibc 2.3.2 and XFree86
4.4 RC3. Hardware is a P3 500MHz 128MB RAM laptop using the SiS630 integrated chip
configured to use 32MB as VRAM. My DRI drivers are from the kernel 2.6.3 sources.

Relevant lines from modprobe.conf:
options sisfb mem=12288

Relevant lines from XF86Config:

   What problem exactly?

   Perhaps also you can send your /var/log/XFree86.0.log file to
this list so we know exactly what setup you have.

Mark.

[XFree86] Video Card Problems

2004-02-28 Thread David B.

I'm running Linux RedHat 9 (Shrike) with
kernel 2.4.20-30.9.My video card is a Riva TNT with external pass
through cable to a Voodoo 2 1000 PCI on a pentium 200MMX.
The version of XFree86 I'm running is:
4.3.0In gnome, when I "probe" my graphics card, it detects it to be a
generic S3 Trio64 card, and no matter what I set the graphics card settings
to the check box for 3d acceleration is grey and can not be used.  Is
there possibly an older version of XFree86 that doesn't have this problem?
Or is there some way to remedy it with the current version? - David

[XFree86] NVidia driver problem

2004-02-28 Thread Wojtek Hojda

Hi
My name is Wojtek. I 'm from Poland, Europe.
I'm trying to install NV drivers for my GF4 440MX and have a problem
with Xserver.
Drivers "nv" are OK with my "screen" section, but while trying with
"nvidia" kernel module Xserver crashes:
(EE) NVIDIA(0): Failed to initialize the NVIDIA
graphics device!
(EE) NVIDIA(0):  *** Aborting ***
(II) UnloadModule: "nvidia"
(II) UnloadModule: "vgahw"
(II) Unloading /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/libvgahw.a
(EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration.

Fatal server error:
no screens found
While starting "nv" drivers /Device section/ screens seem to have a
usable configuration, because everything is OK and Xserver starts...
Can't find the reason... PLEASE HELP :-)
I'm sending my .log file (old) and my XF86Config-4 file

best regards
Wojtek

P.S. Forgive me my english please. I'm still learning  :-)

Hi all,

I'm having truble getting the XFree86 to work with ASUS Radeon 9200SE.

I tried using the "radeon" driver but the server exits with the following

Have a nice day :)

I had a similar problem, cards above 9000 are not supported in the latest
stable release of X as far as I know. I got mine working with
'XFree86 -config' and the vesa driver as described in the HOWTO file.

[XFree86] server problemas

2004-02-28 Thread Marcos Alexandre

Hi,

I´m Marcos Alexandre.

Recently I started to use Linux Slackware 9 in my
computer.A 486DX4-100Mhz, 16MB- RAM, HD 8GB and a video card Trident Tgui9440agi
1MB.
I also used a Conectiva 5 in this PC and hadn´t
problemas, but now the Graphic Platform isn´t initializing.
The configuration is OK, I used xf86cfg --textmode.
But, or the X server do not work, or it works with the video image
messed.
Even if I try others setings to the screen, like
800x600 ou 640x480 with 256 colors, it doesn´t work.

Programs that use VGALIB works, but others that use
SDL don´t. "Coudn´t load SDL: No available video device."

I have no idea about it.
Any?

Thank´s,
Marcos Alexandre

[XFree86] Posting events to application event queue. Can you?

2004-02-28 Thread Jeff
Can you post events to an X apps event queue like you can use
PostMessage() to post messages to a Windows app?

What I mean is I have an X app that starts a worker thread. The main
thread handles the gui and sends /gets commands/responses from the
worker thread. The worker thread, wel performs work. In Windows I would
use the PostThreadMessage() and PostMessage() to do this. How could this
be done in X.

From the gui to the worker thread is no problem. Set up a mutex
protected queue between the two and the thread does a conditional wait
until teh gui posts something.

But, can the thread put a special event on the gui's event handler and
teh gui have a callback for that event?

I guess you could have a queue from worker thread to gui and the gui
check it in the event loop handler. Instead of using XtAppMainLoop() you
would do this:

for(;;){
   if(CheckThreadQueue())
  ProcessQueueData();
   if(XtPeekEvent){
  XtAppNextEvent();
  XtDispatchevent();
   }
}

PS: I am no X expert by a long shot. I have use mostly Tcl/Tk and xforms
and very little low level, Xt, programming.

 The server is trying to open /etc/X11/XF86Config (may have -4 on end).
This is the file that tells the server what chipset you have and what
the monitor sync ranges are, among other things. Best bet is to run
Redhat's X config tool. Failing that, you can try XFree86 -configure as
root. This will load all video drivers, and see which one finds
hardware it can support. It will then write an initial XF86Config file,
which will probably need to be edited.

lspci should be able to tell you at least what company made your
chipset. Look for something like the following:
03:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon R350
[Radeon 9800]
03:00.1 Display controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon R350 [Radeon
9800] (Secondary)

[XFree86] Alternate Approach For nVidia PPC Drivers

2004-02-28 Thread Matthew Bogosian
Howdy all,

There has been some discussion about the desire for nVidia drivers for
the PPC architecture on both this list as well as on [EMAIL PROTECTED]
(it seems to be a big pain point for 12"/17" PowerBook owners who want
to run XFree86), but I haven't seen anything along these lines. This
idea was originally posted here:

http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?s=&threadid=25418&highlight=linux+ppc

I'm reposting it here to see if I can't generate some discussion. By the
way, if someone thinks this would be more appropriate to post to
[EMAIL PROTECTED], please let me know, and I will forward it on. Here's
the (mostly) original text:

I apologize in advance if this has been discussed before (and I wasn't
paying attention). Anyway, thoughts, comments, etc. are welcome and
encouraged.
