[XFree86] framebuffer radeon M9 R250 Lf 128 MB

2003-08-14 Thread Yves Caniou
Hi all,

The laptop has also a 845G built-in card and is capable of a resolution of
1600x1200.

I have compiled the kernel with the ATI Radeon display support directly in the
kernel with all the options for this to be ok (or so I think :)
I have put in the /etc/lilo.conf the lines :
vga=795
and
append=video=radeonfb:mode:1280x1024
But, when I reboot, my laptop doesn't seem to see these lines and load the
kernel in the standard mode (eg without framebuffer).
I have also tried to use append=video=radeon:.. without changes. :(
(Of course, I did as root $lilo after... )

I tried what is written in the Framebuffer HOWTO (if great, a little old,
isn't it ?) : I have tried vga=793 and
append=video:atyfb:cmode=24,mode:1024x768,font:SUN12x22 (of course, the
fonts were compiled in the kernel). The screen began to go whiter and whiter,
and I have immediatly rebooted...

I have also tried the VGA 16-color. I remember to have see in the
/var/log/dmesg the use of an intel-thing corresponding for the built-in card
(sorry, I have done it so many times). It gave me a 4 cms black box on the
top (without any Tux :( ) and the kernel loaded.

Now, I use the vesafb, and it works.. Well, I would likely to use the
1600x1200 the screen is capable of, but vga=796 or above leads to a black
screen, and the kernel seems to load (obviously, I can only guess..). So I
must 'restraint' to a vga=795...
But I am obliged to comment the UseFBDev True in the /etc/X11/XF86Config-4
when I want to launch X, if not, I obtain a Xserver killed by a signal 11 and
the /var/log/XFree86.0.log attached in this message.

As I posted before for someone, I have updated the radeon modules from the dri
homepage. But, if it is written Direct rendering enabled and Acceleration
enabled in the log, glxinfo says direct rendering no (and this is
confirmed by the fps number obtained in armagetron.. :)

What can I do to have framebuffer in 1600x1200, use the radeon correctly, have
the accelaration work (if possible) ? (updating to the latest XFree-cvs is a
first step i guess, but would this make it work ?)
Thkx.

.Yves.

Re: [XFree86] Automatic GUI mode changing preferrence

2003-06-17 Thread Yves Caniou
Hi,

Thankx a ton!!! but I have another problem. I have Original Intel D845 GLVA
motherboard with integrated graphics and use RedHat 8. Since i do not get a
resolution higher than 800x600 ( i desperately need a higher resolution),
I downloaded the XFree86 4.3 and installed it. But whatever i do in order
to configure XFree86 ( i tried everything, just every configuration tweak i
can think of), the graphical interface neither works in the old 800*600
resolution, nor in 1024*768 resolution. The monotir led keeps blinking
 while I get a dark screen. I have a Samtron 50 E monitor.

I am attaching the Xfree86.0.log as well as XF86Config file. Can anyone
please help me out of this? Pleaseee?

 Thanking you in anticipation ...

I am not pro but I can see in your log file
II) I810(0): Monitor0: Using hsync range of 50.00-120.00 kHz
(II) I810(0): Monitor0: Using vrefresh range of 30.00-61.00 Hz

Are you sure you have not swapped the info concerning the frequencies of your
monitor (the vertical and horizontal frequency) ?
In your XF86Config-4 file, invert HorizSync and VertRefresh... after verifiyng
that is correct of course :)
Moreover, your Section Screen could be :
Section Screen

Re: [XFree86] SOS

2003-06-06 Thread Yves Caniou
 Respected Sir,

When i give the command startx on linux server, error occurs and
attached log file is generated. Please help.

 Regards
 Ashutosh Sood

Fatal server error:
could not open default font 'fixed'

You have a problem with your fonts.
The fonts are not installed, or the path is not set correctly.
Check in your /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 the path...
In mine, it goes like this :
Section Files
FontPathunix/:7100# local font server
# if the local font server has problems, we can fall back on these
FontPath/usr/lib/X11/fonts/misc
FontPath/usr/lib/X11/fonts/cyrillic
FontPath/usr/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi/:unscaled
FontPath/usr/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi/:unscaled
FontPath/usr/lib/X11/fonts/Type1
FontPath/usr/lib/X11/fonts/Speedo
FontPath/usr/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi
FontPath/usr/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi
EndSection

Of course, a search with google can lead to more informations.
HTH.

I recently installed a inux 7.3 for Intel on a IBM 5100 machine. When
running startx I get the following error:

If the server is older than 6-12 months, or if your card is
newer than the above date, look for a newer version before
 reporting problems. (See http://www.XFree86.Org/)

Re: [XFree86] XTerm

2003-06-03 Thread Yves Caniou
Indeed that does work, but i want it to be a perminate chage, not haveing
to type that every time. Isn't there a XTerm config file other then
XTerm-color. I could just set that?
Depending of the desktop manager you use, you can also try to right click on
the console, left click on configuration label, choose the model you want
(white on black for example) and left click on 'save configuration'...
Of course, you must use a mouse... :)

Re: [XFree86] Fatal error

2003-05-29 Thread Yves Caniou
Hi,

I am very new to the Linux world. This morning, I logged in and typed
 startx and received this message:
 Fatal server error:
Server is already active for display 0
If this server is no longer running, remove /tmp/.X0-lock adn start again.

As I mentioned, I do not know enough yet to diagnose nor resolve this issue
 without help.

As it is said, the server is probably already in use..
type ctrl-alt-7 would normally replace you in your x-environment.
