Type Xconfigurator and follow onscreen instructions for reconfiguring
your display card and everything will work out fine. Soon after just
restart your computer and not just the service but the reboot command.

I got my startx screen with that command.

have added the line in monitor section. But is of no use. Unable to

I already wrote that in a previous email, but for 15 the reported values
sound about right, so there's no need for additional settings in the X
configuration file. From what I saw, 1024x768 should be doable on that
 monitor as well.

Hmm, perhaps it _is_ needed to put a modeline or two in the X configuration
file to get this to work. In the monitor section, try the following line:
   Modeline 1024x768 65.00 1024 1048 1184 1344 768 771 777 806 -HSync -VSync

Hmm, I'm starting to run out of ideas here. It still insists on using the
VESA modes, and the monitor modes. There's three more things I can think
 of that might help:

 1. Remove or comment out the following line:
  Option dpms

 2. Remove or comment out the Modes line in this section:
  Subsection Display
  Depth 24
  Modes 1024x768 800x600 640x480
  EndSubsection

 3. Install a newer version of XFree86 (or even RedHat or SuSE). As written
by others: the 845G isn't (well) supported before 4.3.0.

i845 support wasn't even added until after 4.2.0. #129 in the changelist
for XFree86 4.2.99.1 (7 June 2002). He's not going to get it working
with anything older than 4.3.0. Playing with modelines is just a waste
of time. Jagdish, you need to upgrade your XFree86 version.

He did mention in an earlier email that he installed some special 845G
drivers. From the logfile it appears that the 845G chipset is detected
eventually, but the VESA modes just don't seem to match against anything his
monitor is reporting as valid.

[XFree86] DISPLAY PROBLEM - 82845 Chipset.

2004-10-04 Thread Jagdish R.Chhailkar
Sir,

I have a machine having 128MB DDR,40GB HDD and 15 Samsung's
SyncMaster 591s monitor. Out of 40GB i have partitioned 30GB as DOS
10GB as NON-DOS. Over the 10GB non-dos partition I am trying to load the
Red Hat Linux 8.0. I have successfully loaded the OS but unable to get
the X.

For the ready reference I am enclosing the complete log file
(i.e. XFree86.0.log) from /var/log and the output of the lspci -v
command.

I have tried by changing the BIOS settings as follows :

1) On Chip Frame Buffer size : [8MB]

2) AGP Aperature size (MB) : [64]

Also i have downloaded a rpm IntelGraphics_20040607_i386.rpm
installed but still not getting success.

After looking at your configuration file I had another look at the
logfile. There's really not that much that I can think of that is
causing this, but I did notice a few points:

(II) I810(0): Max H-Image Size [cm]: horiz.: 28 vert.: 21

Is your monitor really 28x21 cm? If it isn't, try setting it in the
Monitor section of your configuration file with the
DisplaySize 400 300
command. The first number is the horizontal size, the second number
the vertical size, both in mm.

 (II) I810(0): Manufacturer's mask: 0

It appears that there are no modes supported by the VESA settings
that are also available according to the monitor. Can you turn off
the automatic settings gathering from your monitor? As an alternative
you could try creating your own modeline for 1024x768, since both
your monitor and the chipset should have no problem with this
resolution.

monitor to me.

Your XFree86 version is too old to support i845. If I recall
correctly, it was not supported until 4.3.0. 4.4.0 is the most
recent version.

I have tried by changing the BIOS settings as follows :

   1) On Chip Frame Buffer size : [8MB]

   2) AGP Aperature size (MB) : [64]

 Also i have downloaded a rpm IntelGraphics_20040607_i386.rpm
installed but still not getting success.

[XFree86] Display Problem

2003-11-28 Thread Prabhu Basavalingam
Hi,

I have installed Linux 7.3 in my system.
My system's display card is Acer 713.

The X-windows comes up for the first time and then after i logout it dosent
work. The screen goes blank. I have to reboot the system to start X-Windows
again. I tried to reconfigure the X-windows from the command prompt by trying
the setup command. It was giving failures. After i tried this command i was
not able to start x-windows. I am working on a project and i have to use X-
windows. I will be very thankful if u can help me fix X-Windows.

I have attached the log file it generated when i typed startx from the
command prompt.

Will the data be deleted if i reinstall linux 7.3?

I want to fix this problem as soon as possible so that i can carry on with my
project. I would very much appreciate if i get a speedy reply (solution) for
my problem.

Thank you.

with best regards,
Prabhu Shankar

Acer713 is monitor type. Find out the video card detail (man lspci).
Presently intel 810 driver module is used. I hope, this module may not
be the right modules. Also read the man i810 and try setting options
correctly.

please send your /var/log/XFree86.0.log and XF86Config files.

there are a few standard problems with the intel i845 chipset, which it
sounds like you're using.

2003-10-13 Thread Mark Vojkovich
Note that the Intel 845G isn't expected to work before XFree86 4.3.
I don't know what version comes with slackware 9.0, but if it's older
than 4.3, that would be a problem.
