[XFree86] DISPLAY PROBLEM - 82845 Chipset.
Sir, I have a machine having 128MB DDR,40GB HDD and 15 Samsung's SyncMaster 591s monitor. Out of 40GB i have partitioned 30GB as DOS 10GB as NON-DOS. Over the 10GB non-dos partition I am trying to load the Red Hat Linux 8.0. I have successfully loaded the OS but unable to get the X. For the ready reference I am enclosing the complete log file (i.e. XFree86.0.log) from /var/log and the output of the lspci -v command. I have tried by changing the BIOS settings as follows : 1) On Chip Frame Buffer size : [8MB] 2) AGP Aperature size (MB) : [64] Also i have downloaded a rpm IntelGraphics_20040607_i386.rpm installed but still not getting success. - JAGDISH 00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corp. 82845G/GL [Brookdale-G] Chipset Host Bridge (rev 03) Subsystem: Intel Corp. 82845G/GL [Brookdale-G] Chipset Host Bridge Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0 Memory at e800 (32-bit, prefetchable) [size=64M] Capabilities: [e4] #09 [1105] 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corp. 82845G/GL [Brookdale-G] Chipset Integrated Graphics Device (rev 03) (prog-if 00 [VGA]) Subsystem: Micro-star International Co Ltd: Unknown device 7148 Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 10 Memory at e000 (32-bit, prefetchable) [size=128M] Memory at ec10 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=512K] Capabilities: [d0] Power Management version 1 00:1d.0 USB Controller: Intel Corp. 82801DB USB (Hub #1) (rev 02) (prog-if 00 [UHCI]) Subsystem: Micro-star International Co Ltd: Unknown device 24cb Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 0, IRQ 10 I/O ports at d800 [size=32] 00:1d.1 USB Controller: Intel Corp. 82801DB USB (Hub #2) (rev 02) (prog-if 00 [UHCI]) Subsystem: Micro-star International Co Ltd: Unknown device 24cb Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 0, IRQ 10 I/O ports at d000 [size=32] 00:1d.2 USB Controller: Intel Corp. 82801DB USB (Hub #3) (rev 02) (prog-if 00 [UHCI]) Subsystem: Micro-star International Co Ltd: Unknown device 24cb Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 0, IRQ 11 I/O ports at d400 [size=32] 00:1d.7 USB Controller: Intel Corp. 82801DB USB EHCI Controller (rev 02) (prog-if 20 [EHCI]) Subsystem: Micro-star International Co Ltd: Unknown device 3981 Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 0, IRQ 9 Memory at ec18 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=1K] Capabilities: [50] Power Management version 2 00:1e.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corp. 82801BA/CA/DB PCI Bridge (rev 82) (prog-if 00 [Normal decode]) Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0 Bus: primary=00, secondary=01, subordinate=01, sec-latency=32 I/O behind bridge: c000-cfff Memory behind bridge: ec00-ec0f 00:1f.0 ISA bridge: Intel Corp. 82801DB ISA Bridge (LPC) (rev 02) Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 0 00:1f.1 IDE interface: Intel Corp. 82801DB ICH4 IDE (rev 02) (prog-if 8a [Master SecP PriP]) Subsystem: Micro-star International Co Ltd: Unknown device 24cb Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 0, IRQ 11 I/O ports at 01f0 I/O ports at 03f4 I/O ports at 0170 I/O ports at 0374 I/O ports at f000 [size=16] Memory at 1000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=1K] 00:1f.3 SMBus: Intel Corp. 82801DB SMBus (rev 02) Subsystem: Micro-star International Co Ltd: Unknown device 24cb Flags: medium devsel, IRQ 5 I/O ports at 5000 [size=32] 00:1f.5 Multimedia audio controller: Intel Corp. 82801DB AC'97 Audio (rev 02) Subsystem: Micro-star International Co Ltd: Unknown device 7140 Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 0, IRQ 5 I/O ports at e000 [size=256] I/O ports at e400 [size=64] Memory at ec181000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=512] Memory at ec182000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=256] Capabilities: [50] Power Management version 2 01:0d.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. If it isn't, try setting it in the Monitor section of your configuration file with the DisplaySize 400 300 command. The first number is the horizontal size, the second number the vertical size, both in mm. (II) I810(0): Manufacturer's mask: 0 It appears that there are no modes supported by the VESA settings that are also available according to the monitor. Can you turn off the automatic settings gathering from your monitor? As an alternative you could try creating your own modeline for 1024x768, since both your monitor and the chipset should have no problem with this resolution. Your XFree86 version is too old to support i845. If I recall correctly, it was not supported until 4.3.0. 4.4.0 is the most recent version. Mark. I already wrote that in a previous email, but for 15 the reported values sound about right, so there's no need for additional settings in the X configuration file. From what I saw, 1024x768 should be doable on that monitor as well. Hmm, perhaps it _is_ needed to put a modeline or two in the X configuration file to get this to work. In the monitor section, try the following line: Modeline 1024x768 65.00 1024 1048 1184 1344 768 771 777 806 -HSync -VSync Regards, Pieter Hulshoff ___ XFree86 mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://XFree86.Org/mailman/listinfo/xfree86

[XFree86] Display Problem
Hi, I have installed Linux 7.3 in my system. My system's display card is Acer 713. The X-windows comes up for the first time and then after i logout it dosent work. The screen goes blank. I have to reboot the system to start X-Windows again. I tried to reconfigure the X-windows from the command prompt by trying the setup command. It was giving failures. After i tried this command i was not able to start x-windows. I am working on a project and i have to use X- windows. I will be very thankful if u can help me fix X-Windows. I have attached the log file it generated when i typed startx from the command prompt. Will the data be deleted if i reinstall linux 7.3? I want to fix this problem as soon as possible so that i can carry on with my project. I would very much appreciate if i get a speedy reply (solution) for my problem. Thank you. with best regards, Prabhu Shankar XFree86_0.log Description: Binary data

Re: [XFree86] display problem in slackware linux mandrake linux 9.0
Note that the Intel 845G isn't expected to work before XFree86 4.3. I don't know what version comes with slackware 9.0, but if it's older than 4.3, that would be a problem. Mark.
