[XFree86] fatal error LinuxInit: cannot open tty0

2007-07-24 Thread kevinzhu
Dear all,

I'm a newbie in this field.

I am trying to run KDrive (Xfbdev), which is cross compiled from XFree86
revision 4.6.0, on an embedded system; however, an fatal error occurred.

Fatal Error LinuxInit: cannot open tty0 (No such file or directory).

It seems KDrive users a virtual terminal to start its operations.
Actually, there's no virtual terminal at all in an embedded system. How
could I avoid using a virtual terminal to start KDrive? If not, how to
add an tty0 device to the system?

I also hacked the source code, so it did not call the LinuxInit
function, which tried to open tty0, and the error did not occurred, but
it said no screens found.

Would someone help me? Thanks!

Regards,
Kevin

You need to use a more recent version of XFree86. Upgrade to at least
version 4.3 and preferably 4.4.

Re: [XFree86] fatal error - no screen found

2004-06-01 Thread Mark Vojkovich
no screens found can happen for a number of reasons. The most
common is that your video card is too new to be recognized by your
version of XFree86. The server you are running is years old, so
that is not suprising. XFree86 4.4 is the current version.

The problem is that your XFree86 configuration (likely /etc/X11/XF86Config) is
using the XFree86 open-source driver 'nv', whereas you have installed the nVidia
closed-source driver 'nvidia'. This causes a conflict with the OpenGL extension
(GLX).

So change 'Driver nv' to 'Driver nvidia' in the Device section. Then comment
out 'Load dri' in Modules section if it is present.

Configure your X-server. RH has xconfigurator or whatever it's
called. Alternatively XFree86 -configure can generate an XF86Config
file for you.

One nice thing about Linux is the error messages are sometimes helpful and
sometimes humorous and sometimes both but rarely neither. This error message
is one of the helpful variety.

Fatal server error:
Server is already active for display 0

This is the really helpful part.

If this server is no longer running, remove /tmp/.X0-lock and start again.

If you are the only user of your system and you can't run X at all. Then go
ahead and delete the file specified in the error message. remove
/tmp/.X0-lock You may want to use the rm command to do the deletion.

Example:
rm -v /tmp/.X0-lock

Here is a man page for the rm command. You can also access the man page
for this command by typing man rm on your system. My apologies if you are
already aware of this.

[XFree86] Fatal error 104 upon starting x

2003-03-30 Thread Kevin W Chen
I recently installed Red Hat Linux 7.3 on my system, but X fails to
start up properly. When X attempts to start up, it prints the
following message:

XIO: fatal error 104 (Connection reset by peer) on X server :0.0
after 0 requests (0 known processed) with 0 minutes remaining
[repeats 9 more times]
INIT: id x respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes

Each time the XIO message pops up, the screen displays random color
lines/static on the screen, before stopping for 5 minutes.

[XFree86] FATAL Error advice:

2003-02-11 Thread vizion communication
Hi

I am having Fatal Server Error - No screens found problem on
this system.

FreeBSD 4.7
Compaq Proliant 5500
Graphics card: Riva TNT 2 M64 32MB PCI Version
Card in Primary PCI Bus

The log file has the following relevant entries:

(II) Primary device is : PCI 00:02:0
(WW) NV: No matching device section for instance (Bus ID
PCI:0:2:0) found
(EE) No devices detected

It would seem the problem is down to the difference between
02 and 2!!

How can this be best dealt with?

Thanks for any help
