[XFree86] HELP!!!

2003-01-13 Thread Vesna&Boban Petrovic
On January 11, 2003 05:50 pm, you wrote:
Hi,

I have very strange problem. I am using xfree86 4.2.1 on i386 (kernel
2.4.20, glibc 2.2.5, Slackware 8.1) machine. From time to time my left
margin on screen (about 1,5 cm wide) becomes inaccessible for mouse
pointer. Everything on screen is fine (if I want to press button, I have to
move mouse pointer to the right of button and then click), just mouse
movement space is shifted to the right and so are actions I perform with
it. I have compiled xfree86 4.2.1 from source but it didn't help.
My chipset is recognized as CyberBlade/i1 (VIA VT8361) and I use trident
driver. My monitor is ViewSonic GT770.
My work desktop is KDE 3.0.1 and same has happened under Gnome 1.4.
I have read man pages for trident driver and I haven't recognized any
 option that could help.
 Maybe you have some suggestion.

 Thank you,
 Boban

[XFree86] help?

2003-02-20 Thread Vince Biondolillo

I hope you can help with this problem. I have not been able to start X
for some time. I don't BELIEVE that I did anything to change the way it
was running when it stopped but hopefully you can give me some hints as to
what I need to do.

Attached is the error log from when I tried to start X the last time.
Current Linux version is RedHat 8.0. The problem started with 7.3 which
is what prompted the decision to upgrade and see if that would fix this
(which it hasn't).

Any help you provide would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Vince

[XFree86] Help!!!

2003-03-20 Thread PEREZ, Armand F.

The Linux 7.3 I installed
cannot detect my monitor,  I have Philips 15" 105E12 monitor.  Here's
what happened, when the installation was just two clicks away, the installer
told me to indicate the monitor model which is not available among the
selection.  So I just chosen Generic settings.
When I restarted the pc, it just gone straight to command line.  Then
typed, Xconfigurator,  I chose settings and even chose custom and entered
the Horizontal and Vertical Sync Ranges, but it didn't work.  The
Xconfigurator infact probed my video card (NVIDIA Riva TNT/TNT2) and also
prompted me if I would choose the monitor setting it has detected, 105E and
ranges, but if the Xconfigurator test my settings, it just went blank (black)
and the error message says that the configuration I entered are not
correct.  Please help. See also the XFree86.0.log below.  Thank
you.

work, also I get some "core dump" messages
sometimes...

My system is:

Micro Intel Pentium 166mhz MMX
Mother Intel i430HX - PCIset Intel SB82371SB (all year
95/96)
Video Card Trident TGUI9680-1 4MB

FM-3711-1
72 MB RAM / HD 3.2 GB

With:
Mandrake Linux 9.1 Bamboo - kernel 2.4.21-0.13mdk

Can you determine what is the problem and what can I
do??

See the file XFree86.0.log.old attached please...

[XFree86] Help ??

2004-06-11 Thread ted . western
Hi,

Red Hat 9 on a Dell Latitude C600.

I have re-loaded Linux several times in graphics and CLI mode.
I stay with the defaults where possible.
In graphics mode the display looks great during the load phase.

Subsequently it is not possible to get graphics mode after booting.
Everything else seems to work OK in CLI mode.

I attach the log file.

Any help would be appreciated.

thanks and regards,

ted

Installed XFree86 v4.3.0 using Xinstall.sh script

After the install I ran XFree86 -xf86config /root/XF86Config.new to test the server and it comes back with the following errors:

Fatal server error:

I tried to change the /root/XF86Config.new input device line to

Section "InputDevice"

    Identifier "Mouse0"

    Driver "mouse"

    Option   "Protocol" "PS/2"

    Option   "Device"   "/dev/mouse"

    Option "SampleRate" "80"

But I get the same errors again.

Whats happening and what do I need to do to get it to work correctly?

Help please!

It is possible, but the correct command is startkde.

  best

Vladimir Dergachev

PS The reason why command did not work is that startx starts Xserver -
i.e. the driver for the hardware you have. But ssh connection does not
present any real hardware - only a channel for communication with whatever
Xserver you are running your terminal emulator on.

No, it is incomplete. Please follow the instructions at the bottom of the
error message.

Besides, this is probably a case of you misconfiguring your machine or
(possibly but I doubt it) a Red Hat bug.

It /might/ be an XFree86 bug but until you actually provide the log you
were asked to send AND tell us how to got to the current state, we'll
never know.

Possible you didn't configure your X.
Try configuring with xf86cfg -textmode. Visit ALL seven menus.
If that doesn't help, you could even try configuring with xf86config.

[XFree86] Help Please

2003-01-26 Thread James Durand
Hello Guys

I am just starting out on this Linux journey and are having problems getting
the X Server started. I have run the xf86config a number of times, but with
no success.

The machine I am trying to run Red Hat V8 on is a Pentium MMX machine. It is
a HP Vectra VE with a Dell E551 Monitor, and a S3 Trio64V2/DX graphics
adapter.

I have attached the error log for your perusal.

Kind regards <>

RE: [XFree86] help

Hello,
You are more likely to get help if you also include a description of
what's wrong. And what distro and version of Linux and Xfree you are using
just for clarity's sake. Maybe what kind of hardware too. :) (For example,
your video card could be considered germane.)

Everything was looking good (to me at least) until here. Maybe you clock
settings. Or your sync settings. Perhaps these are being read automatically
and that's not working properly.

I've seen this in quite a few of these messages in Red Hat XFree logs (might
even be specific to Nvidia drivers), there -may- be a FAQ about it on the
XFree86 website. (http://www.xfree86.org/support.html) Unfortunately I don't
know what the error message signifies, but it's a good place to start
looking. ("could not open default font 'fixed'", maybe add a comma and "Red
Hat 8.0" or whatever your version is.) You can use Google to search the
site, just go to the Advanced Search Options and set the Domain Option (in
the first block of options towards the bottom) to only search
http://www.xfree86.org/.

Also, if you're not already subscribed to the Xfree mailing list you may
want to as that is where most of the help actually takes place.

Good luck,
.cyn.

Bruce,
We seem to be getting more and more errors with no information in them.
How are we supposed to help you if you don't give us any information?

For a start, what OS is this? What cpu? What distribution?
What do the logs say? What are the permissions on /dev/io?
What version of X do you have?

  We aren't physic.

If this is a bsd machine, then you have your security settings too high.
If not, then perhaps your permissions are wrong. I can't tell with
the little information you have given us.

Sincerely,
JohnFlux

Your XF86Config file specifies that a font server should be
used, yet one isn't running. Run xfs.

I don't know about RH8, but looking at the log file...

Your monitor specs are entered incorrectly in your XF86Config
file. According to your monitor's EDID you should have:

VertRefresh 50 - 160

  And I'm guessing HorizSync should be about 30 - 100, but that's
only guessing. Your monitor manual will tell you for sure.

Uninstall NVIDIA's binary drivers and change driver "nvidia"
to "nv" in the XF86Config file.

You were trying to use NVIDIA's binary drivers yet you did
not observe the "(sec-01) SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS" in nvidia's
FreeBSD readme: http://download.nvidia.com/freebsd/1.0-3203/README.txt

2003-02-20 Thread Mark Vojkovich
Your XF86Config file says to use a font server, yet one doesn't
appear to be running. Run xfs or put a font path in the Section "Files"
of the XF86Config. eg.

   FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc:unscaled"
   FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi:unscaled"
   FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi:unscaled"
   FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Type1"
   FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Speedo"

If You run Linux inside vmware under unknow OS, then use "vmware" video
driver for xf86.
I run winnt under vmware and vmware under xf86 and xf86 under Linux.
So I install special video drivers for winnt.
