Re: [Xpert]xterm is crashing in my latest build of CVS HEAD.
Hi Shawn, After further exploration, I think this particular problem is due to building CVS HEAD against the 2.5.1-dj5 kernel tree. This seems to point out the ongoing liability of linking stuff that lives in the kernel tree (a practice not thought of kindly by Linus and other kernel developers). Anyhow, I switched to the 2.4.17 tree and reran make in /usr/src/xc. I can now launch xterm, emacs and a few other programs that were segfaulting with my previous build. [Xpert]AGP G200 won't sync_on_green, old Millennium card did!
I have no problems getting my old Millennium 2064W card to do sync_on_green, but no matter what I try I can't get my new AGP G200 Millennium card to do it. The old Sony monitor is not fixed frequency so can handle different modelines no problem. Is sync_on_green even supported on the agp card? I've even tried using same XF86Config files that worked for the PCI card, and just changed the card type and VideoRam size but still no go. Has anyone actually got the AGP version of the G200 doing sync_on_green? If so please help. Steve. ___ Xpert mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://XFree86.Org/mailman/listinfo/xpert

[Xpert][mga] pointer hotspot gets desynced with viewport on G400 AGP
I reported a bug a while ago about the mouse pointer graphic getting out of sync with the actual hot spot of the mouse pointer. I've since updated X server and the problem is reduced but still present. The problem isn't gone, however it's slightly changed. Instead of jumping 8 pixels and having the mouse pointer be offset 0-7 pixels the jump increment is now 4 pixels. This is much less intrusive however it's still broken. The mouse pointer is still off by as much as 3 pixels. And the jumping is still somewhat annoying compared with the smooth scrolling of old. What's odd is it only seems to happen in 640x480 and above. The behaviour is different at 320x240. Under 320x240 the screen still pans in increments of 4 but the mouse cursor warps back 4 pixels when it does. So the mouse stays aligned. Under 640x480 the hot point is up to four pixels ahead of the screen panning even though the graphic doesn't move, then when the screen pans four pixels it catches up with the mouse pointer graphic. I mentioned in my original report that the jump scrolling is a terrible misfeature. It's visually distracting and very annoying. Is there any way to turn it off and get back the slick smooth scrolling that xfree86 v3 had? -- greg ___ Xpert mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://XFree86.Org/mailman/listinfo/xpert
[Xpert]XDMCP problem.
Hello, I have a problem for Xperts. I am running XFree86 v3.3.6a (video card is not supported by 4.x) on RH 7.1. I have the following problem. I have three network interfaces: -eth0 with ip 192.168.1.1 -eth1 with ip xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx -ppp0 with ip yyy.yyy.yyy.yyy (and peer zzz.zzz.zzz.zzz) ppp0 is the default interface (it is in fact a tunnel through eth1 which is a high speed internet connection. I fully understand this setup and it works). The hostip is yyy.yyy.yyy.yyy (which resolves correctly from the hostname). When I execute X -query zzz.zzz.zzz.zzz -ac :1 (recall zzz.zzz.zzz.zzz is the peer of ppp0) the X server sends XDMCP packets to zzz.zzz.zzz.zzz and zzz.zzz.zzz.zzz. answers it is "willing to manage". HOWEVER the reply by zzz.zzz.zzz.zzz does not go to yyy.yyy.yyy.yyy but to 192.168.1.1 which is the private IP address of my internal lan interface eth0 and which is of course inaccessible from the outside. Inspection of the XDCMP packets coming from my computer with ethereal shows that they really refer to the address 192.168.1.1 instead of to the address of my computer: yyy.yyy.yyy.yyy. Question: is this normal behaviour and how can I change it? I would be extremely grateful for anybody who can help me in this matter. When you say vga bios, do you really mean bios documentation? The bios on a ViRGE card may be manufacturer specific. Or would register level ViRGE documentation be okay? I have a copy of the ViRGE MX register level documentation which is not under NDA, if you want it. (Contact me privately.) You can also try http://www.s3graphics.com. Re: [Xpert]Using character sets without a locale
Around 14 o'clock on Dec 25, Richard Stallman wrote: > Is there any platform-independent way of using fontsets > and multibyte characters with Xlib? Others may know better, but as far as I know, the multi-byte support in Xlib is dependent on the ANSI/ISO C language locale model and hence relies on underlying C library support of each locale. The lack of standardization in the underlying locales supported is part of the reason I believe many projects are moving away from a locale-based model for internal text support and towards a model where the locale-specific text is converted at the operating system boundaries of the application to a standard Unicode encoding. Once the text is internally represented in Unicode, there are convenient Xlib functions that accept utf8 encoded strings (Xutf8DrawText et al.) This will also ease the transition from core X text support to the newer client-side font support of Xft which provides only Unicode APIs. [Xpert]Using character sets without a locale
I'd like to internationalize Emacs menus. XCreateFontSet and XmbDrawString seem to be designed to use a locale defined by the host platform (i.e. by libc); that doesn't help Emacs because it doesn't know what locales the host supports or what they mean, so it can't find one that is suitable. Is there any platform-independent way of using fontsets and multibyte characters with Xlib? ___ Xpert mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://XFree86.Org/mailman/listinfo/xpert
[Xpert]Xinerama incorrect DPI values
Hi, I startet using Xinerama with KDE some time ago andxit works fine. I have problems displaying True Type Fonst though. They are twice as wide as they should be. I have searched for other people having this problem and found a few but no solution. Is there a solution? The problem is that my virtual resolution of 2880x1200 pixels gets mapped to 406x305mm. So a pixel is not sqare any more. Thanks Edd ___ Xpert mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://XFree86.Org/mailman/listinfo/xpert

Erm...hi, it's me - again. Just finished another update. Mode restoration now (on my machine) works, so you may use the sisfb and the new X driver at the same time. There were changes in _both_ drivers, so you need to install them both. Please read the information on http://www.webit.com/tw/linux.shtml for problems still unsolved.
