[Xpert]ATI Technologies Inc Radeon Mobility M7 LW
Hi guys, I have tried to install LFS , Redhat Linux 7.2, 7.3 and Mandrake 8.2 with XFree86 4.2.1 onto my Compaq Presario 2800 laptop. During the installation, I got no problem with the screen, but after the installation, from the graphical login screen and onwards, the screen got screwed up. There are vertical bars cutting up the icons, fronts, and dialog boxes. My Presario 2800 uses ATI Radeon M7 card. I have search all the newsgroup by http://www.google.com and I post my problem in too many mail list but no one have any solution for my problem . Anyway after 2 weeks I found that the X window will work if I select "vesa" and its great but you know I can't run DRI and I can't get the best view from the card (this problem not just in my PC, I got ~7 messages from people like me having the same problem) Here all my PC information , and please if you have any solution send it to me Thank you [root@localhost src]# uname -r 2.4.19 [root@/]$ cat /proc/cpuinfo processor : 0 vendor_id : GenuineIntel cpu family : 15 model : 2 model name : Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 Mobile CPU 1.40GHz stepping: 4 cpu MHz : 1395.494 cache size : 512 KB fdiv_bug: no hlt_bug : no f00f_bug: no coma_bug: no fpu : yes fpu_exception : yes cpuid level : 2 wp : yes flags : fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 clflush dts acpi mmx fxsr sse sse2 ss ht tm bogomips: 2785.28 -- http://www.Linux4Me.com/ About Islam : http://www.Islam-QA.com --- "If Linux doesn`t have the solution , you have the wrong problem." my-pc-info.tar.bz2 Description: application/tbz

[Xpert]X Seesion Can run only one time
Hi, I am new to linux. I installed RH 7.3 on my system which has P4 motherboard with Intel 845 G integrated video. I configured the XFree86 to use generic "vesa" for the driver for now. I can log in and start X only every first time after the boot. Once I logout of the X, my system either hangs(if I use runlevel 5) or I could get out to the log in prompt at run level 3 but I would not be able to start X again(it will hang). There were some error messages appear when X was shutdown. i do not know where I can find the log file for that. If anybody could help me, I would really appeciate it. Thanks, Rojana

I think Xinerama can provide > this kind of use. This seems complicated. Normally, pointer motion only effects one screen at a time and there are probably some complications with making it behave otherwise. Also, unless the virtual desktop sizes and viewport sizes of the individual screens were restricted the effect would be lost. Consider what happens if someone did a mode change on one of the monitors? What happens to the panning behavior then? At the moment there are no special viewport considerations for Xinerama. Xinerama, from the point of view of the DDX is just like any other multihead mode, so what you are suggesting is actually a large departure from the current architecture. [Xpert]XML format for XF86Config
Has there been any discussion on translation of the current XF86 config file to XML format. This would make it extremely easy to develop UI base configuration systems for XFree and also offer and easy way to validate the config file. The current parser could be easily modified to generate and XML stream for either translation of the current format for upgrading or handling the legacy format. I've thought several times about doing and infact I did a trivial by hand conversion of a config file to verify that its easy to rewrite. I would like to see if a consensus could be reached to do this. This conversion plus and extension to notify the server when a config was updated would make it easier to allow the server to reset its config on the fly. This is important for docking and undocking laptops. __ Do you Yahoo!?
