I think that's just an artifact of the scaling used on the cursor images;
help in cleaning that up would be appreciated.

No cursor image ever appears in a screenshot. It's not logically a part
of the screen image, and may in fact be implemented in separate hardware
and never even be stored in the frame buffer.

We've only got the two related semi translucent themes (redglass and
whiteglass). I'd like to see at least a couple more, especially one which
used only two colors + transparent for each cursor so that older hardware
could use themed cursors without being forced to use software cursors.

It's easy enough to build a single cursor, it's just very tedious to build
many related cursors and then scale them to a reasonable set of sizes.

Well, i was probing the new release (hey, for what i've seen until now, i like
it) and i realize of a "problem" if you use the "whiteglass" theme and you
have a black-like background (or in any app) you can see how appears a
vertical black line in the cursor which isn't very elegant... :-/

Oh!, by the way, i wanted to make a screenshot to ilustrate whay i was talkin

A few thoughts here:

a) It would appear the SiS's BIOS is imbedded in the system BIOS. Thus
the SiS should always be the primary.
b) Did you try each of the above cases after a fresh power-down/reboot? I
suspect that if this is done, case 1 (HEAD/SiS) would produce the same
   results as case 3 (Debian/SiS).
c) I see no evidence of crashes in these logs. Do you instead mean
lockups? Does the SiS work by itself?

Marc.

[Xpert]Kdrive mouse oddness

2002-12-30 Thread Alex Pavloff
Hi.

I'm using the kdrive X server in 4.2. I hacked in my own touchscreen code,
but I something is odd when both using the mouse and my touchscreen.

If I have a button, click on it, move the cursor off the button, and
release, press and release events are both emitted by the button (as one
would expect).

If one clicks off the button, moves the cursor onto the button, and
releases, a release event is emitted by the button, with no corresponding on
press. With the same app, this doesn't happen on a stock redhat 7.3 X
system (which also uses 4.2.0, I believe).

I believe the kdrive server's behavior is incorrect. Where would I look to
fix this? Thanks.

While building XFree86 4.2.1 on a Linux From Scratch system, I encountered a
strange segmentation error which I think caused many other errors in the
build.

To further complicate issues, I'm build this under User Mode Linux. I've
created s 3G file system onto which I built a minimal Linux From Scratch
system. I configured this to run under User Mode Linux and am attempting to
build the rest of a useful desktop system from here.

I've built freetype-2.1.2 as required for XFree86-4.2.1 and am building from
the sources for 4.2.0 plus the 4.2.0-4.2.1 patch. I've edited out all the
errors to make easier reading, but it seems this first error may be the cause
of the subsequent ones, so I'll only include it. I'm worried about a
segmentaation fault during the build process as I don't think I should be
seeing this unless there is a hardware problem.

make[5]: *** [fontfile.o] Error 1

Of course, I also get many errors with my fonts, but that would seem to be
logical, given this error. The additional strange thing is, that make install
then worked, upto a point. It installed many components, but not the fonts or
XFree86 itself.

I'm trying make Everything now to see if it can recover the failed build.
This seems to have worked, but I'm still worried about the segmentation fault.

If anyone can shed some light on this issue, it might save me several days of
building.

Cheers,

John Gay

[Xpert]LCD monitor and X

2002-12-30 Thread mnc
Hi,

I recently bought an Proview LCD monitor to use on my Linux box.
Unfortunately I cant get it work in X windows. Every time I load up X
windows the LCD monitor
flashes a message saying that the svga mode is not supported.
I have read the H sync and V sync specs of the monitor and the mode
I'm trying is well within the limits.
The strange thing is on the message that flashes on the LCD screen it
also displays the Vert and Horizontal syncs that
it's trying to display. These values that are being displayed are well
off limits for the LCD
79.1KHz Horizontal Sync and 97.9Hz Vertical sync.

If I unplug my new LCD and plug my old CRT monitor the screen displays
X no problem. The CRT also displays
the current Vert and horizontal refresh rates and these come out as
48.4KHz H and 60Hz vertical.

Now from these findings you would think the new LCD is broken. However
It works fine when Linux is booting in the low res mode.
It also works fine in windows 98 from the same machine (Multi boot) at
1024 x 768 and it displays the refresh rates as
48.4KHz H and 60Hz vertical.

Has anybody got any ideas what the problem might be?

I've included the Xfree86 boot log to give some extra details

Thanks
Matt
