Re: [Xpert] V_BIOS woes

The SiS is always 0x03d0. Does this mean anything? At first I thought the Radeon was at was 0x03b0 when it failed, but it turned out that it can be 0x03b0 even when it works (and 0x03d0 when it fails). 0x3b0 is the IOBase for monochrome mode, 0x3d0 for color mode. The fact that the ati driver chooses the monochrome base might have something to do with reading an incorrect MISC register (which is responsible for choosing either color or mono). Yes, this is quite likely when the ATi Card isn't posted correctly. If the card is secondary and the Xserver cannot find the BIOS this is quite likely. Perhaps I am mislead myself, but shouldn't this setup require RAC (which is not being used according to the log)? Hm, not necessarily. Depends on how the resources are registered. The real question is why isn't the BIOS found? I fixed a PCIROM read problem in the ATi Radeon driver a while ago, this fix should be in CVS, though. I don't have the log so I cannot check if this says something about the nature of the BIOS problems. Egbert. ___ Xpert mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://XFree86.Org/mailman/listinfo/xpert
[Xpert] Several screens for a laptop HOWTO ?
in xfree 4.3.0 you could use xrandr perhaps, although you have to swith the output to the external port. you can also have several XF86Config files and just pass them as to startx when you start your X server. I don't recall the exact server option, but I believe it is something like this. (just look up the startx man page or XFree86 documentation.) e.g. startx -- -config /path/to/XF86Config-internal or startx -- -config /path/to/XF86Config-external you could also make scripts with this command in it and call them start-moble and start-docked or somehting like that. Alex -- Hi, we have laptops (Compaq Armada M500), and we want two different displays: either the internal LCD : 1024x768 OR plug the laptop in a dock, and use an external mouse, keybord AND LCD monitor 1280x1024 (also a compaq model). I can't install RH8.0 so that both display can work without some manual XF86Config modifications. Is there a standard mechanism to handle such configurations ? For example, calling xf86config at boot time or when X is started ? /etc/X11 seems to have some premilary infrastructure to handle several modlines, but nothing functionnal. Any help ? [Xpert] Re: New UTF8 compose rules don't work well with us_intl kbmap
On 23 Dec 2002, Alexandre Oliva wrote: With the new UTF8 compose rules and a us_intl kbmap, it seems to be impossible to generate characters such as apostrophe, acute accent, double acute accent, cedilla, double quote, diaeresis, grave accent, tilde and circumflex accent, since the keys for ', , `, ~ and ^ are all bound to dead_accent keys, and there's no composition rule for them with themselves or with space, that could be used to produce the ASCII character or the corresponding UTF8 accent. Ok. I will send in a new version containing those rules. [Xpert] Documentation for KDrive?
I've been following KDrive since Juliusz Chroboczek, [EMAIL PROTECTED] mentioned it regarding building a small X server. I've found his site that gives some explaination about building KDrive, but it is very limited and only covers building Xfbdev and Xvesa versions. I am very interested in testing KDrive in various configurations. I've been playing with Linux From Scratch for a while and have build a few test systems including X, but only the regular, large X. I have access to a few different video cards so I would be very interested in testin KDrive builds for the ones I can. Since the documentation is very sparse, and the sources shed even less light on the subject, there is a serious problem with documentation of this feature. I would like to be pro-active about this. Therefore I would like to ask anyone here who has experience building KDrive, or even has questions about building KDrive to pass any information on to me so I can start compiling the info, testing it as much as I can with the hardware I have and work on writing useful doc's for using KDrive. What version is your linux kernel? I had this problem with a logitech usb mouse when using a 2.2 kernel. The mouse would freeze up whenever there was any load at all, and on a 2Ghz P4. [Xpert] KDrive[tinyx] Font problem
I have compiled KDrive+tinyx compiled with all the fonts installed Speedo,Type1,CID,FreeType, and FontServerAccess. I have a Font server installed but my KDrive/Tinyx doesnt seem to see it. I have it defined in my /etc/X11/XF86Config file but it doesnt seem to see it. It was working when I use my other workstation pointing to the same font server so I know the font server works. Any idea on how to define this? Also, I can't seem to get 75dpi fonts compiled into my KDrive/tinyx. The Speedo,Type1,CID, etc works but I can't seem to get 75dpi compiled in. Any ideas how to do that? Thank you in advance. ___ Xpert mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://XFree86.Org/mailman/listinfo/xpert
