Queries on YARN

2017-03-06 Thread sabiya kazi
Hello Folks,
I am new to hadoop and I have few queries w.r.t YARN. I went through
documents
and blog series by HortonWorks

 1. Can we define our custom logical resources in YARN other than Memory &
cpu core? Is this flexibility there?
 2. What is a role of HDFS in yarn, Can yarn work without HDFS?
 3. HDFS is still used for replication then which component is responsible
for taking backup?
 4. HDFS is required for large data processing application where data to
be processed is persisted on HDFS
Can I use YARN without HDFS for solving computational problems?
5.Is Container's state / running node's image is persisted to provide
failover of running tasks?

Can somebody please answer these questions?

Regards,
-Sabiya

Re: About 2.7.4 Release

2017-03-06 Thread Akira Ajisaka

Probably 2.8.0 will be released soon.
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HADOOP-13866?focusedCommentId=15898379=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel#comment-15898379

I'm thinking 2.7.4 release process starts after 2.8.0 release,
so 2.7.4 will be released in April or May. (hopefully)

Thoughts?

Regards,
Akira

[jira] [Created] (YARN-6293) Investigate Java 7 compatibility for new YARN UI

2017-03-06 Thread Li Lu (JIRA)
Li Lu created YARN-6293:
---

Summary: Investigate Java 7 compatibility for new YARN UI
 Key: YARN-6293
 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/YARN-6293
 Project: Hadoop YARN
  Issue Type: Sub-task
Reporter: Li Lu

Right now when trying the YARN new UI with Java 7, I can get the following
warning:
{code}
[INFO] --- maven-enforcer-plugin:1.4.1:enforce (dist-enforce) @ hadoop-yarn-ui
---
[WARNING] Rule 1: org.apache.maven.plugins.enforcer.RequireJavaVersion failed
with message:
Detected JDK Version: 1.7.0-67 is not in the allowed range [1.8,).
{code}

While right now this warning does not cause any troubles for trunk integration,
when some users would like to package the new UI with some branch-2 based code,
the JDK requirement would block the effort. So the question here is, is there
any specific component in new UI codebase that prevent us using Java 7? I
remember it should be a JS based implementation, right?

Re: LevelDB corruption in YARN Application TimelineServer

2017-03-06 Thread Jason Lowe
Verify that something outside of Hadoop/YARN is not coming along periodically
and removing "old" files (e.g.: tmpwatch, etc.).  Users have reported similar
cases in the past that were tracked down to an invalid setup.  State was being
corrupted by a periodic cleanup tool, like tmpwatch, removing files.

[jira] [Created] (YARN-6291) [YARN-3368] Introduce query parameters (sort, filter, etc.) for tables to keep state on refresh/navigation

2017-03-06 Thread JIRA
Gergely Novák created YARN-6291:
---

Summary: [YARN-3368] Introduce query parameters (sort, filter,
etc.) for tables to keep state on refresh/navigation
 Key: YARN-6291
 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/YARN-6291
 Project: Hadoop YARN
  Issue Type: Sub-task
Reporter: Gergely Novák
Assignee: Gergely Novák

On Applications / Nodes pages the user can define filters, sort the list on
selected columns, etc. But all these settings are lost on a refresh, or
navigation, which is very inconvenient.

For example a possible use case might be watching the Applications table while
running a lot of YARN applications and continuously pressing Refresh to see
their progress. In this case, the user have to set any filter / sorting
manually after every single refresh.

[jira] [Created] (YARN-6290) Fair scheduler page broken

2017-03-06 Thread JIRA
Léopold Boudard created YARN-6290:
-

 Summary: Fair scheduler page broken
 Key: YARN-6290
 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/YARN-6290
 Project: Hadoop YARN
  Issue Type: Bug
Affects Versions: 2.7.3
Reporter: Léopold Boudard

Hello,

I have an issue very similar to this one
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/YARN-3478
not being able to access to scheduler interface in yarn webapp.

Except that traceback is bit different (NullPointerException and could be be
caused by stale queue configuration.
I suspect QueueCapacitiesInfo.java initializing info object with null value for
some reason.

Below traceback:
```
