Re: [yoper-dev] Getting 3.1 finally out

I'll try and get some stuff on the visual side of things done. I know
just saying it is not doing it, but I will try and dedicate as much time
as possible and help get 3.1 out.

Re: [yoper-dev] Yoper 3.0.1 Titanium Maintenance Release

2007-10-03 Thread James Stenner
Awhile back I was looking for the config for smart notify and couldn't
find it. It seems to update the channels every hour or so. Does
anyone know were the config is ? I would like to have it update every
day at the least. I will look again but after searching it lead me to
suse (which is my guess on where we got this) and they didn't seem to
have any info on the config either.

Thanks,'

Re: [yoper-dev] Yoper 3.0.1 Titanium Maintenance Release

2007-10-03 Thread James Stenner
I did a fresh install of the reg iso and only found two problems very
small..
1. After install of the reg iso when logging out, there is a display
from the installer asking if you would like to install more software.
This only happens the first time you log out.
2. You have to quite smart-update from the task bar in KDE to be able
to use either smart from the console or smart gui. (it is running in
readonly mode) Once you quite the task bar notifier smart should work
again.

Those are the only problems I ran into. Overall things seemed to go
smoothly! One really nice thing that I don't think was present in the
other releases is: the installer asks if you would like to add the dev
repos or... was this in the earlier versions?
Thanks,
James

Re: [yoper-dev] compiz 0.5.2 available in dynamite

2007-09-16 Thread James Stenner
It is running good but it looks like the kde-window-decoration hitch was
left out. "kde-window-decoration --replace" doesn't work. I think it comes
in the core compiz package, unless for some reason it was taken out but that
would be odd.
Does it use a different command?

Thanks

Hey! I'm James :)
Sorry I haven't been around much lately! Guild Wars is like crack!!
ahhh, I can't get away from it. I have a couple more packages ready to
go, just some minor clean up on them. The areas I'm going to try and
focus on are the art, cosmetic, graphical side. I end up enjoying them
more anyway and feel IMO however wrong I maybe but in my little world of
eye candy, is what is needed before anything else :). So please fell
free to take over knemo! be back soon.

Re: [yoper-dev] offtopic: where am I

2007-06-24 Thread James Stenner
A well deserved break!

I think it's good to have plan for 3.1 but I think we should stay
focused on 3.0.1. He's is a small list of things that I feel should be
fixed for 3.0.1.

1> Having more then one dvd drive causes the DVD version not work. (at
least I think thats what it is.
2> USB devices need to be mounted automatically at boot. ipod,SD cards,
sticks ect. Also hard drives mounted at boot too
3> USB mice, wireless and laser type of certain models recognized properly
4> vesafb option added to grub menu or properly recognized at boot

This is mainly just what I'd like to be fixed. for 3.0.1

For 3.1
Has there been any talk, behind closed doors about ck-patch ? what is
the plan or thoughts for newer kernels? Obviously this is related to
us, and has sparked some
heated debates, just your thoughts.

Re: [yoper-dev] nvidia kernel pkg fixed

2007-06-11 Thread James Stenner

I've tested it out and the drivers work, but can someone confirm or
disprove
The problem is in the last part of my second post
http://www.yoper.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=8072

As for the autoconfig of the xorg.conf file IMO the file that is written
when installing yoper works great all I had to do was change the display rez
and I was set. This may not be the best way for new users to linux but what
we lack in config tools we can make up in a good how to or a well written
wiki entire. I would love for everything to be automated but I still kinda
like editing things by hand.

Hi,

the main nvidia kernel pkg is presumably fixed. I'd love to get some
feedback from testers. The only proper way is to have completely
removed any existing nvidia binary drivers and have a common X config
using the nv driver.

Then a simple

1) service kdmctrl stop
2) smart install nvidia
3) nvidia-xconfig
4) service kdmctrl start

Should install the latest nvidia driver.

There is no autoconfiguration of X for nvidia yet. I'd like to talk
this through with some long term nvidia users to avoid pitfalls. I
only recently purchased nvidia and used the installer until now. So
input is wanted, especially from those using other distributions &
nvidia.

[yoper-dev] KDE 3.5.7

2007-05-25 Thread James Stenner
Just wanted to report that I'm using 3.5.7 from the latest ISO and
everything is working great. I have yet to run into any problems.
There are still two entries for GTK styles and fonts in Control Center
and two entries for kdmtheme in KDM theme manager (very minor).

Re: [yoper-dev] RC1 Status confirmation

2007-05-17 Thread James Stenner

Sounds great!
Bring on RC1!!

Tobias Gerschner wrote:

Hi,

I'd like to confirm that there are only 2 issues left for RC1 . So if
you see any more issues please shout out loud.

Blocker:

1) Package installation from the regular CD does not work. If you
install the regular CD and try to use it to install more packages the
repository on the cd is not recognized. Will be looked into today.

Minor:

1) Log out from live cd installation gives you only an end session
button. I am pretty confident we can fix this with an updated package.
Furthermore you're still able to log out. It's not nice but imho not a
biggie.

Others issue , which won't be fixed for rc1 anyway:

Booting from external usb drive: I don't have one , so I can not
possibly fix that.

---

I am gonna focus on making the package installation work from the
regular CD. The RC1 is supposed to be released in approx 12 hours. So
let's see how things work out.

of problem with it, I just never signed up again...opps

So the Mplayer plugin's reside in the /usr/lib/firefox-2.0.0.2 and
should be in the 2.0.0.3 this is for pre rc1(135)
