[Zappa-List] Fw: It's Time We Do Something! Please read this!

2011-05-01 Thread Jack C. Oonk
I don't usually forward stuff, but this all made a great deal of sense to me...
JC

Subject: Next Amendment to the Constitution

The 26th amendment (granting the right to vote for 18
year-olds) took only 3 months 8 days to be ratified! Why? Simple! The
people demanded it. That was in 1971...before computers, before e-mail, before
cell phones, etc.

Of the 27 amendments to the Constitution, seven (7) took 1
year or less to become the law of the land...all because of public pressure.

I'm asking you to forward this email to a minimum of twenty
people on your address list; in turn ask each of those to do likewise.

In three days, most people in The United States of America
will have the message. This is one idea that really should be passed around.

  Congressional Reform Act of 2011

  1. Term Limits.
12 years only, one of the possible options below.
 A. Two Six-year Senate terms
 B. Six Two-year House terms
 C. One Six-year Senate term and three Two-Year
House terms

  2. No Tenure / No Pension.
A Congressman collects a salary while in office
and receives no pay when they are out of office.

  3. Congress (past, present future) participates in Social
Security.
All funds in the Congressional retirement fund
move to the Social Security system immediately.
All future funds flow into the Social Security
system, and Congress participates with the American people.

  4. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as
all Americans do.

  5. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise.
Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.

  6. Congress loses their current health care system and
participates in the same health care system as the American people.

  7. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the
American people.

  8. All contracts with past and present Congressmen are void
effective 1/2/12.

The American people did not make the current contract with
members of Congress.
Congressmen made all these contracts to benefit themselves.

Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career.
The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, so ours
should serve their term(s), then go home and back to work.

If each person contacts a minimum of twenty people then it
will only take three days for most people (in the U.S. ) to receive the message.

MUCH OF WHAT WE FACE IN TERMS OF PRIVILEGE AND SELFISHNESS IN
THIS COUNTRY MIGHT BEST BE CHANGED STARTING FROM THE TOP DOWN.
If you agree with the above, pass it on. If not, just delete

You are one of my 20. I INVITE YOU TO KEEP IT GOING. WHATEVER
YOU CHOOSE -- THANKS!

said to contain Franks favorite Live works and presented with each version on

As I am not part of this vine, I hesitate to 'feedback'; however:
It appears that as a group we don't all follow the instructions for vining to
the letter, which makes tracking the progress of a vine problematic (and I'm
not pointing any fingers, just stating fact). I suggest leaving the vine as is,
to allow recipients to select whatever format they want/need when the disks
arrive, and to keep it simple. Splitting into 3 vines allows more opportunity
for error and loss...

Re: [Zappa-List] Zoot Allures front cover, who's who?

2008-12-01 Thread Jack C. Oonk
More precisely:

http://www.arf.ru/Notes/Zoot/intro2.html

Front-cover mystery :-)

From: JOHNSCIALLI
From left to right: Patrick O'Hearn, Terry Bozzio, FZ, Eddie Jobson. I am not
familiar with the answers altho I've seen some speculation on affz. I don't
remember the details but the photo had to do with some time period another than
that album.

From: Vladimir Sovetov
John, I think the explanation is in note Calvin provided for Uncle Meat cover.
  Let me repeat it here
[Calvin's note]: There was, at times (at least in earlier years), some
discrepancy between who performed on the album, and who was listed or pictured
on the packaging. I would say this was primarily because: the album package
illustrated the MOI group as it existed at the time of release as
differentiated from the actual recording personnel; listings and photos of the
MOI usually were of whoever was in the group when the list or photo was made,
and the band was ever-changing (as were some albums).
So you see the album package illustrated the MOI group as it existed at
the time of release as differentiated from the actual recording personnel and
at the time Zoot Allures album was sent to Warner Brothers for pressing (06/76
) the touring group consisted of

* Frank Zappa - guitar, vocals;
* Ray White - guitar, vocals;
* Eddie Jobson - violin, keyboards;
* Patrick O'Hearn - bass;
* Terry Bozzio - drums, vocals

The very persons on the cover. The actual band. So the real mystery is where
is Ray? Probably once again some emergency call from home!-))

From: Charles Ulrich
FZ was not touring in June, 1976. The tour didn't start until October, 1976.
Moreover, when it did start, the line-up also included:
  Bianca - keyboards, vocals
It seems quite possible that Ray and Bianca were hired sometime between June
and October. (Bianca left the band after the November 11 concert.)

That's what I found.

An online group called Grouply asks you to register as someone on
this group has invited you. Don't do it!!! It requires you to give
them your yahoo id and then it takes complete control of your yahoo
account and starts spamming everyone in your address book. It is
relentless and will make a lot of enemies for you.

Here is a copy of the email I received, again:

RE: Frank?

On October 27, hank woodz from your Zappa-List group sent you an
invitation to join Grouply so you can see their profile, friends, and
list of groups.

On Wednesday (November 19), this invitation will expire. Follow this
link to accept hank woodz's invitation.

Signing up is free and takes less than a minute.

2008-11-12 Thread Jack C. Oonk
Oh, 1 more thing...
I cannot prevent members from using the 'individual message feature' to send
emails to selected other members; I can only prevent them from sending message
to the entire List. That's why it's critical when you do receive this kind of
dubious stuff from the List (it will look like it's coming from the site, but
it isn't - it's coming directly and only to you) that you let me know ASAP. The
longer you wait, the tougher it is for me to rectify...
Doing my best to keep the List a place where you can safely hang your hat, and
let your Frank Flag Fly!

Oddly enough, most of these turned out to be moderated anyway!
This one - mjhmjhmjh98 [EMAIL PROTECTED] - is the likely culprit, if there
really is a culprit...
For the rest, I suggest removing the Grouply crap from your machine before
contacting me - or removing yourself from the List (before I do).

It is probably not the fault of any member - if this 'new' group operates
as described. The List members most likely signed up not knowing, and the
grouply hijacked their address list.
But, I have been thru all of the message posts this year (whew!) and the
following members messages are now moderated (meaning they have to go thru me
before they get to you) - either for the Grouply crap, or for other
questionable posts:
zappafrankfan [EMAIL PROTECTED]
zappatika [EMAIL PROTECTED]
johnandsue2001_uk [EMAIL PROTECTED]
mjhmjhmjh98 [EMAIL PROTECTED]
destories [EMAIL PROTECTED]
wicc_ed_stuff [EMAIL PROTECTED]
If you are one of the above, and wish to justify yourself to me (to get
your posts unmoderated), please email me off list, and explain your actions.
I'm not banning anyone from the List until I can determine how this crap got
rolling here...
Thank You,

Please, please, please advise everyone you know that they absolutely
can NOT go to the polls wearing any Obama (or whoever you are voting for)
shirts, pins, hats, etc. It is AGAINST THE LAW and will be grounds to have
the polling officials turn you away. This is considered campaigning and no one
can campaign within X amount of feet of the polls.
They are banking on us being overly excited and not being aware of this
long standing law - that you can bet will be ENFORCED THIS YEAR! They are
banking that if you are turned away, you will not go home, change your clothes
and return to the polls to vote.

Just wondering where this one has gotten to. It's looking like
   those
of us on the end of the list will be getting it sometime in
   2017... :)

  Just a reminder,
as per SOFA in message #15087...

The correct order for this vine as of my sending it off to John G in
Kansas is: john g in kansas (US) Skipster2001 (US) reinhardtken
(US) Mark H (US) Matt S(US) Marty Guinn (US) Guy Gonzo1
  (US) Luis (AR) lusi_tanio@ ???

I guess you can tell I'm hot for this one.

Many thanks to Ken and the others for moving this through the vine.

You need to add your name to the end of the list Eddy... Any other US viners
will squeeze in before you.

I'd like to be in on this. I'm in Europe, so maybe this thing can run

Based off the timing of my my post and the post from Robert S, I
   have
resubmitted my name to this vine. So the running order looks like
   this:
Marty (US) Joe Boden (NZ) Rick N. (US) Mark M (US)
   Robert S. (US)

 Hi all

Thanks to Marty (waterbussy@), a vine of the 24 October 1976
Boston show (early) is now being offered. According to several
sources on Zappateers, this show contains the best Black
   Napkins of
all time. Sign up for this vine, and judge for yourself
 whether
   you
agree.

The present vine is a bit unusual in that Marty has offered to
   send
it to me first, and I'll vine it to the list afterward.

I may be wrong on this (I usually am), but I believe it was the flipside to
this single FZ preferred - The Rotten Cocksuckers Ball, which FZ did cover on
one of the 'Stage' recordings...
