Massimo
  Bassoli)

The was movie started in 67 with the original Mothers of
Invention.
Finished in88 or 89 and released on videotape. The movie has
 basically
  2 parts to it.
One is based on the live concert footage of the Mothers plus
a small
orchestra in the London Festival Hall in 68. This footage is
based
 on
the story of members of the band quitting to start their own
band
eitherbecause they want a band of all disciplined music or
they want
to escape from under Zappa's shadow and play real rock and
roll. The
remainder of the movie is made up of Dom DeWild (Don Preston)
pretending to be a Jeckyl and Hyde sort. Really wierd. There
are
 also
some videos of the band for the songs Mr. Green Genes and
Holiday in
Berlin (from Burnt Weenie Sandwich). The concert footage is
good and
the videos are fun, but the rest is just plain bizzare.

BTW, for those who have been a part of (or interested in) the 'Vine
Problems' debate we've been having, the above represents the procedure
that should occur when a disk gets passed along: 1) Find the Last and
Most Complete list of viner's and respond to that message, with 2)
your name removed from the list, and 3) remove any non-essential
morsels of commentary from previous posts - if you're anal enough to
 keep it looking nice...

[Zappa-List] 3 Possible vines - Unreleased Trance-Fusion, Dortmond 1984 and Paris 1979

2006-08-01 Thread mrk_timbrell
Hi,

Not sure if these are suitable for posting as a vine or not, they
were given to me by a friend.

The first is on a CD:

Unreleased Guitar Trance-Fusion CD

Details: http://globalia.net/donlope/fz/unreleased/Trance-
Fusion.html

Then the following 2 concerts were copied direct from tape, they are
currently in wav format and need to be edited into a format that
will play on all PC's, CD players. But I do not have any software
for converting the files and bring them into one, together with
sorting the tracks. But if these are ok to post and someone is
willing to sort them into a proper vine I would be willing to copy
the files onto CD's and post them on, providing they then post them
on as a vine:

Frank Zappa – Sonnabend, 8th September, Dortmond 1984
Where the fuck are we

Frank Zappa – Paris 1979
Anyway the wind blows

I have the track details for both the concerts and the details for
the Trance-Fusion can be found on the website.

I look forward to hearing if they are ok or not to post as vines.

Regards,

Mark

Noticing that there seems to be a few folk on line
 now...I'm surprised I
had no takers for the offer below in the UK.
Due to postage costs I stated that I wanted to send it to
 someone in the UK
first off but then it could go anywhere.

So,if anyone in the UK wants it please get in touch.

Going through some old discs I've found a dvd-r copy of the
 above Room 101
release of material from August 6 7 1974 KCET-TV Los
Angeles.

I don't need this disc as I have the Room 101 original so I
 thought I'd
  offer it up here.

The dvd-r in question if I remember correctly was sent to me
 by a trading
colleague (not on this list),before I acquired the
 original.It's on an
unbranded dvd-r disc which has some light surface scratches
on
 the playeable
side and which could do with a clean in general...I
don't
 really know
why this is the case as it's hardly ever been played and has
 been in a
protective sleeve since I've had it but there you go.

I've just checked it in my pc and it plays perfectly on win
 dvd so there
  shouldn't be a problem.
Due to postage costs,I'm only prepared to send this to
someone
 in the UK
first off but then it can go anywhere as far as I'm
concerned.

It can even go as a vine if enough people want it.

So if anyone in the UK wants this please get in touch off
list
 and please
feel free to offer it back up.

  glen19@

Is this how we do vines as I've never signed up for one ;-
)) ?

  Cheers,
  Glen

[Zappa-List] Re: VO: A Token Of His Extreme dvd

2006-07-25 Thread mrk_timbrell
Hi all,

With regard to this vine I'm having a few problems with copying the
DVD, it keeps falling over at the same point, I've tried cleaning it
and copying the files over to my harddrive, but it appears one of
the files is corrupted and does not want to copy.

I'm currently cleaning it again, there are a couple scratches but I
don't think this is causing the problems.

I will keep you posted.

I want now to offer this vine to the list as a sort of Xmas gift.
Please, add your name and enjoy.

Thanks to JimL, and TBN's inimatible Magic Fingers, I'm
prepared to kick-off the subject vine.
Apologies to those who may have signed up up for this when
the idea was first broached; I attempted a search, but this one got
kinda convoluted... So we'll try again yes?
 Here's the breakdown:

 Commentary from
http://home.swipnet.se/fzshows/FZShowsoverview.html
 30-Oct 1976,
 116 min, Aud, A-
Speed problems and gradually worse sound near the end.
 31-Oct 1976,
Early show: 110 min, Aud, A-
Late show: 130 min, Aud, B+

Commentary from me: I think there may be some wires crossed
here; the Late show 1031 has the speed problem, and B+ is
generous... If 1030 has any problems, I've not caught them.
My plan is to not Pond Skip; US viners will be exhausted
before it goes abroad...

The Euro vine currently stands as follows (to the best of my
knowledge):

  thierry barbier-fr ( correque46@ ) Neil (UK) Federico
Valdes
[EMAIL PROTECTED] net Luis (AR) lusi_tanio@ ???

Please do not confuse this with the US vine also doing the rounds -
 some of
the previous posts are a nightmare to follow!
I've taken the liberty of re-naming the subject heading slightly
to try and
 avoid further confusion.

(By the way, I've no idea why the track sequence starts at track
4.)

 Cheers

 Details:

Another offering from the Actuel Fest at Amougies on 25th October
1969.
This time it is the whole of the Pink Floyd contribution with
Zappa joining
the group for a mamoth Interstellar Overdrive, preceded by Zappa
and the
 Floyd tuning up.
This has been speed corrected, the version that is making its
rounds at
 present is 8-10% too fast.
We also have here amazing versions of Set the Controls for the
Heart of the
Sun and Saucerful of Secrets, where we can here the reason why
Zappa
 admired the Floyd so much.
This FLAC version also contains mono versions of Dylan's Blond on
Blonde
and Bringin' it all back home. All artwork for the Amougies is
included.

Pink Floyd - 1969-10-25, Festival Actuel, Amougies, Belgium,
Aud initial distribution of the audience tape was mastered slow,
this
 version has been SPEED-CORRECTED.
 length: 75:07
  4. Astronomy Domine 9:34 (was 10:53)
  5. Green In The Colour 3:44 soundtrack
source
  6. Careful With That Axe, Eugene 9:35 soundtrack source
  7. tuning up with Frank Zappa 2:44 (was 2:48)
  8. Interstellar Overdrive 20:23 (was 21:03)
  9. Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun 11:03 soundboard/FM
source
 10. A Saucerful Of Secrets 18:02 (was 18:36)

 David Gilmour - guitar vocals
 Richard Wright - organ
 Roger Waters - bass vocals
 Nick Mason - drums
 with Frank Zappa - guitar (7 8)

NB-- for this disc, the audience recordings of Green Is The
Colour and
Careful With That Axe, Eugene were patched with the more common
soundboard
source, taken from a documentary film soundtrack. Set The
Controls does
not appear in the film but is taken from a later FM broadcast of
the same
 soundboard tape.
1:45 of mostly dead air was edited from Set The Controls prior to
broadcast, thus is missing here. A minute or so of dead air was
edited from
the end of Astronomy for this disc as well.
FLAC copies should include the audience recordings
of Green, Eugene and
Set The Controls in a separate folder for whomever is interested.
